Chris Weidman steps in to replace Michael Bisping against Demian Maia
Posted on January 18, 2012, 07:58 AM by Anton GurevichUndefeated Middleweight prospect Chris Weidman steps in on short notice to face Demian Maia at UFC on FOX 2 (MMAJunkie.com). Weidman completes the UFC on FOX 2 main card puzzle, after Mark Munoz was forced to pull out of his fight with Chael Sonnen due to an injury. Maia's original opponent, Michael "The Count" Bisping, was brought up as a replacement for Munoz, and will now face Chael Sonnen in the co-main event.
Chris Weidman is currently 7-0 in his promising MMA career, with victories over Octagon veterans Alessio Sakara and Tom Lawlor (Weidman is 3-0 in the UFC). Matt Serra's protege finished 2 of his fights via KO/TKO and 3 via Submission.
If victorious against Maia, Weidman could find himself en route for a shot at the UFC Middleweight title, right behind Vitor Belfort and the winner of Sonnen vs. Silva.
UFC on FOX 2 takes place on January 28, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The event is headlined by the #1 Contender bout in the UFC Light Heavyweight division, between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis.

damn rashad and davis most have lost a ton of weight to be fighting in the lightweight division,,,**sarcasm***
Thank you! :)
weidmans strength is mainly his bjj background with renzo and serra, but maia has the best jiu jitsu int he world of grappling never mind the UFC MW division. styles make fights and with only 2 weeks to prepare weidman bit off a lot more then he can chew.
no thanks
and to the weakers F`you all
weaking for no reason shows that you all fail in life
That's the "lesnarism" philosophy?
you could have just politely pointed out the typo... hence the weaks dont worry... i only weaked both of your comments :)
great fight I really have wanted to see how good Weidman really is and this is a great test although maybe slightly early one big step up from tom lawler anyway
Damn, when the music stopped, I didnt have a chair.
Comparison to the cards lately
2 weeks to prep for Maia is tough.
damn this is a brilliant fight! I think Weidman can pull out the major upset here. His wrestling is definitely good enough to keep it on his feet and his jits is good enough to survive for a short while at least (unlike the fellow wrestler Sonnen). Weidman might have a small edge in the stand up but we'll have to see.
I have to go for Weidman witht he upset
How's his judo? Sonnen's a great wrestler too, but when he fought Maia, he got dropped on his face.
I haven't really seen enough of Weidman to make a call as to his chances, but Maia definitely has the edge in experience.
@KeithFarrell
Maia showed great stand up against Munoz he rocked him in the first round, Maia via decision
Great match up for Weidman and he's fighting a top 10 guy. I got Weidman via decision wit some mean GnP.
I got Wiedman by KO,I belive his stand up and sprawl an brawl will win this fight.
Weidman's never fought anyone of Maia's caliber before, and Demian's pretty crafty. It might be a bad time for him to fight Maia, too, considering he was just training to deal with Bisping's stand up, which is more technical and defensively sound than Weidman's. I'd give Maia the edge all around, but there's no shame for Weidman if he loses to him. This is a great opportunity for him to be sure.
Bisping did not even get a mention here... Shows how much belief on Bisping to beat Sonnen.
