Chris Weidman replaces Court McGee, set to face Jesse Bongfeldt at UFC 131
Posted on April 6, 2011, 02:21 AM by Joey SantosusMiddleweight prospect Chris Weidman has reportedly agreed to face Jesse Bongfeldt at UFC 131, serving as a replacement for an inured Court McGee.
MMAFighting.com first reported the development, while UFC officials have since confirmed the match-up.
Bongfeldt (21-7-1) made his promotional debut last December against Rafael Natal. After a close three-rounds of action, the judges declared the bout a draw. Prior to the match-up, Bonfeldt had built a seven-fight win streak competing in smaller Canadian promotions.
Wiedman (5-0), meanwhile, stepped in on just two weeks notice to defeat Alessio Sakara at UFC on Versus 3. The bout was his first octagon appearance, which came after the Serra-Longo Fight Team product picked up four consecutive victories fighting with the New Jersey based Ring of Combat promotion.
UFC 131 is set to take place June 11th from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The stacked card will be headlined by a Heavyweight showdown between TUF 13 coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos, while top Middleweight contenders Demian Maia and Mark Munoz will go head to head in the co-main event.
