UFC on Fox 2: Chris Weidman outpoints Demian Maia in lackluster decision winPosted on January 28, 2012, 07:48 PM by Joey Santosus
Chris Weidman now takes another step up the 185-pound latter, as he defeated former title contender Demaian Maia tonight at UFC on FOX 2.
Following a close opening-round that saw the two competitors exchange punches for the duration, Weidman came out for the second looking to impose his wrestling. Though he was able to successfully complete two of three takedown attempts, Maia's ability to scramble back to his feet ensured the second five minutes was contested much like the the first.
As the third got underway, Weidman's cardio came into question, having taken the fight on just 11-days notice. Despite sloppier technique displayed by both men, "The All-American" found the momentum swinging into his favor both in striking and grappling, scoring enough on the judges' cards to take a split decision victory.
With the victory Weidman improves his unbeaten record to 8-0, having emerged victorious from his toughest test to date.
