Chad Mendes: I will be looking to put Jose Aldo on his back at UFC 142
Posted on November 22, 2011, 09:41 AM by Anton GurevichChad "Money" Mendes will have his shot at becoming a champion in the UFC, facing the Featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo in the main event of UFC 142. According to Mendes, Jose Aldo doesn't like to be on the ground, and that's exactly where he he's going to put him. Still, Mendes promised to have his striking just as sharp, with sights on proving he's a well rounded Mixed Martial Artist against Jose Aldo. The card will take place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, co-headlined by the Middleweight clash between Vitor Belfort and Anthony Johnson.

Well DUH! Thats about the only way he's going to win. Aldo gets tired in later rounds so if he survives the first 3 rounds of leg kicks (which he won't) then I could see this being a close fight.
Aldo has to keep the fight standing for 3 rounds to do that...and I'm not sure he has the TDD to do that. I'm not saying he doesn't, but he has not fought a wrestler of Mendes' caliber. The best wrestler he has fought to date is Urijah Faber, but Faber chose not to attempt a takedown until he had taken 3 rounds of leg kicks, and it was too late. His explosion was gone, and his shots were too slow to be effective. Mendes striking is not as good as Urijah's, and he's probably not quite as fast, but he is a bigger stronger wrestler, and if he can get some early takedowns, he has a good chance to get the decision.
I could see that. It should be very interesting. Its kind of bitter sweet for me though because I really like both of these guys.
"Slow him down & grind out that fight" freakin' Fitch Jr.!!
I think Chad is Aldo's first legit threat for a while. He's got the striking to do what Hominick couldn't; avoid damage and be patient enough to take Aldo down and wear him out.
So you're saying that Mendes has better striking than Hominick? You've been smoking too much of that good stuff.
@ en09si And no way is Mendes a better fighter than KenFlo.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..................
Oh, was I asleep?
Let's hope Aldo KO'S him quick so we avoid a 5 round snooze-fest.
Mendes looks like he was dropped on his head as a baby.....
I am a fan of Aldo! ... But please somebody make him run, swim or anything to get his cardio better . Last fights he gassed out pretty fast
