he couldnt even come close to submitting mathem or kampmann or even injured and exhausted hendo. he may beat gsp but it will be via lay and pray not sub and that is a long shot
Who submitted hendo? nogueira brother and anderson silva (one guy a lhw one guy a heavy weight another a blown up middle weight) and jake shields is has a welterweight frame
and kampmann has exceptional submission defense
and mayhem himself is a good submission grappler who submitted sakuraba who submitted.. how many gracies?
i doubt that shields can go lay and pray GSP i havent seen that since... transition in boxing is good but we have to know everytime you hit the canvass its ko score and it will be counted inlike inn mma u still have a chance if you sprawl and avoid getting hit.
Well, Caesar is over his head. Nick Diaz has amateur boxing skills but not at a pro level. I guarantee you if you match him up vs a BIG name he will be taking to school. Keep in it real folks. HUGE GRACIE fan but that's the TRUTH!
That's not true. Well Gsp is a superior striker but Ceasar Gracie has brought in great boxers to train with. We are not talking about 2 week training camps either. Andre ward regularly helps the guys at Ceasars. Now if PAC was training with gsp that would be double trouble. But let's stick to truth here. Gsp is a superior striker, they both have great boxing trainers. Ultimately it's up to the athletes themselves and what they absorb.
I actually think Jake Shields is a bad match up for GSP to be honest. Shields is not a striker, and he knows it. He has no speed, no power and is simply not ever going to effectivly be able to formulate a striking offense. BUT, his work ethic his relentless, he trains with the right people, and he has developed sufficient striking defense skills. All he throws is inside leg kicks with his lead leg, and jabs. Enough to avoid damage, especially from a straight puncher like GSP. Shields lacks the explosive shot of a Kosechek, which if he had would make him even more dangerous against GSP, but he is a master of leverage, the clinch game and the ground (aswell as pretty strong phyically).
I think he can put GSP on his back, but I don;t know if he can finish him. It wouldn't surprise me if GSP uses his reach, distancing abilities and footwork to pick him apart on the feet, but I don't imagine much damage being done. I honestly think this could finally be a close fight for GSP, and that he might have to put Shields on his back just to wins rounds and avoid ending up on his back himself. Should be interesting though...
so u think that Kampmann has better submission defence than GSP? cuz i dont think he does, meaning a prediction of shields submitting GSP based on the facts would be implausible
Uh not even close. He makes a lot of mistakes on the ground. Look at his rookie mistake against hardy. Couldn't finish a simple arm bar because his technique was poor. Gsp is a monster but is weakest at bjj and the people mentioned above are not.
Let's not get crazy now. He is one of the best jiujitsu guys around today but there are a lot of great guys. He has an advantage of being a super heavy weight and highly skilled. Not really fair against a 135 lb guy in open weight competitions. If he were the greatest bjj guy alive he would be wearing the red belt which he is not. He has about 6 degrees to go and about 15 years.
He has only lost a few times however in world competitions. Against the best of the best.
What I base my opinion is his success in International competition, his world championships, but most importantly his finish percentage. It is my opinion that he is the best barring a few exceptions, but I may be bias because I was a fan long before he came to MMA.
Ya man I got GSP via 2nd or 3rd round TKO....Shields has sick subs but I just dont see him taking GSP down n even if he does I dont see him keep GSP down long enough to get a sub
If Hendo couldn't finish Shields via KO I don't see GSP doing it. I have GSP winning a very close decision but I won't even lift an eye brow if Shields beats him (unless it is by KO).
GSP is going to show off his speed. I think he is going to dance around and show us a striking display. Jake deserves his respect but I don't see him having anything for GSP. I will be totally surprised if Jake wins. I refuse to be one of those people that think Jake has a chance. I'm not believing the hype. I'm using my own eyes on this one.
@Ichokepeople....I dont think comparing fighters like that makes sense, Rampage couldnt finish Jardine but Bader did it so u never no....if GSP has Shields hurt I think he will pick his shots and TKO him i.e Cain/Lesnar
i think shields is going to surprise everyone an stand with gsp, eventually probably go for a take down, but his game plan is going to be to stand and then take it down....the only way i see gsp winning is by decision, isnt that strange? lol
Cesar Gracie is a goon."I'm steering him towards boxing"...Someone wants more money and i'm not sure who. He also sounds completely retarded "the whole hispanic thing"...the black sheep.
GSP destroys Shields, as per usual, we always assume the next guy will be the one to dethrone GSP, and it ALWAYS ends up a one sided fight . Stop dreaming people.
Diaz would get knocked out if he tried to box seriously. Complete joke.
from wat i c ther alota ppl lookin ovr shields. dnt sleep on him cus he gona put gsp 2 sleep. dont be surprised wen it happens. shields top game nd passes r second 2 non in mma.
If it goes to the ground I can guarantee Shields will be on the bottom, and he will get his guard passed easily, just like GSP made John Fitch's look easy.

GSP is a very very bad matchup for Shields.
First his standup is far far superior not matter what Gracie says. Anyone that Caesar has brought in will not compare to Freddie Roach.
Second, his wrestling is second to none in MMA right now. He will have the ability to keep it standing.
I don't think that GSP is unbeatable, I think Jake Shields is an awesome fighter but like I said, it is just a nightmare matchup for Jake.
its funny how shields thinks he can out grapple GSP so easily. GSP can fight just like him, he is a better jake shields than jake shields.

And it was wrestling that neutralized Gracie JJ (Hughes wins over royce, renzo and ricardo almeida) - GSP is phenomenal at wrestling.
so u think that Kampmann has better submission defence than GSP? cuz i dont think he does, meaning a prediction of shields submitting GSP based on the facts would be implausible
wow. truly wow
yes and gsp is a more complete grappler than either of the guys i mentioned that why i say its highly highly unlikely he can get the sub.
Uh not even close. He makes a lot of mistakes on the ground. Look at his rookie mistake against hardy. Couldn't finish a simple arm bar because his technique was poor. Gsp is a monster but is weakest at bjj and the people mentioned above are not.
GSP however is training with Roger Gracie who is one of the best BJJ fighters to ever live.
Let's not get crazy now. He is one of the best jiujitsu guys around today but there are a lot of great guys. He has an advantage of being a super heavy weight and highly skilled. cheers
I'm definitely starting to think GSP by KO.
I think he will chop him down with leg kicks
Ya man I got GSP via 2nd or 3rd round TKO....Shields has sick subs but I just dont see him taking GSP down n even if he does I dont see him keep GSP down long enough to get a sub

Right. Even though he has one ofthe best boxers in the world to train with.

u know what comes before top game and passes? Takedowns.. you know what GSP is good at? stopping takedowns..
If it goes to the ground I can guarantee Shields will be on the bottom, and he will get his guard passed easily, just like GSP made John Fitch's look easy.
Did anyone really expect for Cesar Gracie to say his student will lose to GSP? Of course hes going to say Shields will win.
Diaz is fighting too much, and no, Shields isn't submitting anyone, never mind GSP.
