Cesar Gracie: St. Pierre should be stripped of his UFC Welterweight title
Posted on December 7, 2011, 05:19 PM by Trent Reinsmith
Current UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will be on the shelf for 10 months after injuring his ACL while training for his UFC 143 title fight against Nick Diaz.
Carlos Condit, who had been scheduled to face Josh Koscheck on the same card has been moved into St. Pierre’s spot and the fight will be for the interim Welterweight title, something that Diaz’s trainer/manager, Cesar Gracie is not fully in agreement with. In fact, if Gracie had his way, St. Pierre would be stripped of the title and Diaz and Condit would be fighting for that title.
“My idea on that, and I haven’t spoke to Dana about it yet, is that they’re making this an interim fight and I think it should be that championship fight because since the Jake Shields fight, by the time GSP fights again, it’s going to be about two years. A champion being out for a couple years? My idea is that you should actually strip him (of the title.) Being a fighter is being healthy, that’s just part of it. You can’t just take a couple years off and I know these things happen and I’m sure it’s not his fault. It’s kind of like Nick deserves a championship fight and with an interim title and there’s always the people who say, ‘you’re not the real champion.’” – for more see MiddleEasy.com
What do you think LowKick’ers, does Gracie have a point?

yeah, and don't blame ring rust if GSP loses to Nick Diaz, or Condit.
This is the second time Cesar Gracie says something outrageously stupid and insensitive. If Nick is as good as he claims, he shouldn't have any problem fighting a top contender like Condit. Personally, I'm very excited about this new match-up and just hope it will materialize. ROOTING ALL THE WAY FOR CONDIT!!
he cant if he loses he loses but to have to give up the belt coming from
this camp is crazy they can **** ppl over look he had a chance and shit all over it and ppl can say what they want GSP has never dodged a fight
takes fighting very serious regardless if he seems to be a kinda like a teachers pet or just to good... but he has never bullshited the only ppl
to talk bad are ppl who lost to him..is what it is at least be real about it
he does try to be like a saint of the sport and ppl dont like itand it should be Condit and Daiz from the start the true top contenders.. all the BS is aside now and back on track
guys this is about money, if GSP is stripped of his belt, that would mean if Diaz wins he would be the only WW champ and entitled to ppv percentages, when he defends his belt. Interim champ dosnt get ppv percentage.
@David i don't think Fighters get PPV % just because they are Champs , is just a few fighters who get that and is based on star power.
Im sure Nick will not get PPV % even if he beats GSP
On the subject about GSP getting his title taking away, yeah right Cesar keep dreaming cuz thats the only way GSP is losing that belt.
plus its only been 7 months since he beat Shields add another 10 and is only 17 months, that's 1 year and 5 months.
I think an Interim Title is the best the UFC can do about that and
Condit vs Diaz could not be better for it. i personally like more that fight than the original Diaz vs GSP in terms of styles.
i Think they have very similar styles , aggressive strikers with amazing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu = WAR.
ha how we arrive at 2 years? awesome reasoning cesar
Because GSPs last fight was in April 2011... he is going to supposedly be out til October of 2012, at minimum... I'm pretty sure you might be able to do the math, but if not that is a year and a half (at best) since the fight with Jake Shields.... I think it's dumb he said 2 years, but in all retrospect it's not far off from the truth.
remember that he still gotta train after he heals from this injury, and that could be a few months too.....
bro april of 2011 and october 2012 is not even 2 years its about 17 months. this cesar gracie guy must have failed math class someone get me his highschool and college math grades i want to see them!.
brock lesnar was the champ for roughly the same amount of time and was out with injury.if the heavyweights can have an interm title than so can the welterweights. its not right to strip the man because he came down with injuries. to be the true champ you gotta beat the champ and one of those guys will get the opportunity
michael... bro as you are saying... read my comment first before you reply/weak/basically anything you have just wrote. jack ass
OMFG he actually makes sense and can do math... WEAK THE MAN!!~!!~
No you are wrong there, it's 10 months without fighting, not 10 months without training. But gsp's injury is something really serious (ACL), so I guess I won't be able to train at 100% before something like 6 months.
i hope diaz gets the title and then gets injured also so he too can be strip from that titlewhen he gets injured
surely thats just Cesar saying that chit cause who would want to get a title
like that... if you need GSP to give you the MRIs and other Doc stuff he
does no problem ...I just see Daiz with more integrity then that not scared to fight the guy for the belt but try and steal it look Daiz is a bad mann what is fighting Carlos!.. will make it were there is no other person BUT HIM... Ive been some what of a fan he has amazing skills but to try and steal the belt..??? makes me gag a bit look GSP has said it a few times he is the champ it doesn't matter who he fights for him to keep his lagacy he should be able to beat any one so its who ever they put in front of him hope I dodnt hurt to may of yaz feelings
but some of you guys just need to let go and let the truth be what it is
Or I simply hope Condit beats him!
That doesn't make any sense, even if they stripped GSP's title because of injury people would say he's not a real champ just as much as if he wins an interim title until he actually fights GSP anyways.
i just think ceasar gracie needs to shut the f*ck up and stop whining!!!! diaz is gonna get destroyed even more than GSP would have now!!! condits a beast with a very well rounded game, and hes not mentally weak like the previous fighters nick has beaten!!! i fully expect to see condit walk out with the interim belt and know that the real belt will be his as well!......WAR NATURAL BORN KILLER!!!!
Caesar Gracie... Don't make me call Frank Shamrock
don't make cesar have nightmare again,:D
and you should be stripped on your arrogant opinion.
it's not the belt that make u a champion, cesar and his team can have the belt, but he all know gsp is the undisputed ww champion.
aaaand Cesar should simply just STFU!!!!!
Between this retard and Ed Soares, I'd be more than happy to hear one day that the UFC decided to prohibit managers from talking to the media.
Dumb f$#@! This is the whole reason the interim title exists, Cesar.
You got it right dude! What is an interim title if it's not to be there when the REAL (Georges "Rush" Saint-Pierre!) champ is injured.
If they strip GSP of his title, people are still gonna say that these two are not the real champion because the belt wasn't taken from GSP in a match. It is what is refferred to in boxing as being a paper champion. And even though GSP would no longer be the recognized UFC champion; he would then transition himself into an unofficial "peoples champion" . But 18 months is an unasually long period of time between title defences; so maybe GSP should do the right thing and let the title go for now, and challenge for it when he is better. But wait...... That is pretty much what an interim title is in place for. So that the belt doesn't sit around and collect dust while the champ recovers. No matter what, GSP will be back to challenge who-ever the "interim champion" may be at that time. Whether he can win against a paper champion after such a long layoff is another matter completely. Good luck with the recovery Georges, we'll see you next year.
ceasar has a point. but gsp should really loose his belt if he is not ready anytime next year....
diaz will never be the "real" champion unless he beats gsp, so interim belt or real belt, doesnt matter.
Not a surprising comment by Gracie...Isn't the the same guy that started chirping about how Greg Jackson is not a real coach and he is.
He is also the guy that was in the ring with Nick after the Penn fight yelling," Call out that mother f***ker!". This guy is a stain and I would not want this guy near any of my kids as a coach.
When a predator smells blood... I don't agree with Cesar here, but this is fighting, right? Some f*ckers are mean.
I think it has a lot more to do with his team getting what they have been working for, for a long time. Everyone of his fighters are going for broke when they fight and not just winning points. They all have the fighter mentality and that wont change. Personally Im happy to see his guys getting in the UFC and for the most part doing well.
Cesar is wrong, the only way to bcome the welterweight champion is to beat gsp. You can't claim yourself the best welterweight in the world is you haven't beat Georges. It's not by defeating Condit that Diaz will be the champion.
Cesar! Chael Sonnen called! He wants his bull shit talking box back before tomorrow's interview!
"I haven't spoke to Danna about it yet"....I bet. Otherwise he'd tell you to STFU and let him do his job.
Gracie is a "sledger", a term from football (soccer). It means you only ever see things from the point of view that gives your side the advantage.
In other words, if it was Caesar's boy Diaz who was the champ and got injured, two years could go by, and he#d say "so what? The champs the champ and an interim title would be disrespectful, let alone putting the real belt on the line."
He used to be champ but then he took an arrow to the knee
Has a Gracie ever spoken so foolishly the way Cesar does?
Guess thats why trainers aren't commentators.
First off ceaser Gracie can go back to sucking on Diaz for saying some stupid s#!t like that....your boy did have a title shot, all he had to do was show up for the dayum press conference and he couldn't even handle that! And saying that diaz training was more for gsp and condits stand up is more dangerous is funny as hell!! In your own words..."DON'T BE SCARED HOMIE!!" Can't wait for condit to whoop his @$$!! I for one wanted to see this fight happen to see who wants the title shot more and who the real contender is....GO CONDIT!!!
GSP beat Koscheck handily. He has beaten all comers took the title from HOF Matt Hughes.I think people want to tear him down because he beats his opponents the he has to whether it is exciting or not.Gracie should maybe shut up, he can't even get his fighter, who he thinks should be champion,to a press conference which cost him the title fight.Bitch at Dana some more and see how far that gets you.
I am disliking this jerk with each passing comment he makes. I expect him to speak up with such vigor the next time his fighters get into a brawl, or misses a pressor costing the company millions. Stop trying to work the masses with your babble. someone take this soapbox from me please. :)
And for the record I'm not a GSP fan!
Man **** that guy he should have his own fight organization that way he can make up all the rules and give all of his fighters the belts and the money and let them all smoke weed
This particular Gracie is a tool. Most of his comments, when it involves promoring his fighter and denegrading/discussing the opponents, are totally idiotic. He is a shame to the Gracie name. Should stick to whatever he is good at.
cesear...don't be a hater homie.
I'm new to watching MMA. I see a lot of comments about the champion GSP being guilty of "Lay N Pray", which seems to be disturbing many people. Could someone explain to me the difference between a fighter smashing his elbow into his opponents face in a vertical position against a cage wall, versus the fighter smashing his elbow into his opponents face in a horizontal position on the mat? What makes one of these positions a viable fist fight, and the other a boring "Lay N Pray" match? Thanks!
GSP does not do either of these elbow smashing to the face things that you speak of,standing or laying....when GSP got KO'd by matt serra he became a really cautious and boring fighter
Is everyone from Stockton retarded?
