Carwin weighs in on Lesnar vs. Velasquez
Posted on October 25, 2010, 09:56 AM by Jamie KennedyUFC Heavyweight contender Shane Carwin weighed in on Saturday's Heavyweight title fight in Anaheim, California between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez.
"What Cain did is what great fighters do, they learn from what they can study. How would have my fight have turned out if I had let Brock stand up and knock him down again and again? It really doesn't matter about what happened last night or in July, the only thing that matters is what is to be."
Carwin then went on to share his feelings on Lesnar's title reign and those who are ready to write the former champ off:
"Those of you writing Brock off, Don't! The man walked into the UFC at the top level (who does that?) and won and defended the UFC Heavyweight belt. He took a beating from me and came back and found a way to win, he nearly lost his life and came back and found a way to win. He is 4 -2 in the UFC and some of the wins are UFC Heavyweight title defenses! He is a real Champion and a real warrior and as long as he keeps training and learning MMA, he will continue to be a force. Every great Champion will lose and the great ones rise again and it would not surprise me to see Brock defending the title again one day. Win or lose he should be respected for being the warrior he is."
Carwin then spoke in regard to the current depth of the Heavyweight division:
"The UFC Heavyweight division has an amazing crop of fighters right now with four worthy title holders (Cain, Brock, JDS and myself) and alot of amazing talent knocking on the door to get their name on the list for a title shot. This is going to be the era of the UFC Heavyweights and I am here to make an impact!"
Some interesting thoughts from the Engineer, I wonder how Frank Mir, Big Nog and others feel about Carwins list of worthy title holders.
Let your thoughts be heard Lowkickers!!!

whats annoying is all the mma fans that sh*t on brock for not being the best fighter but the fact is the HWT division is the best it ever has been and brock is still one of the top heavyweights out there, but the problem for brock is that the other 3 top ufc HWT’s are Carwin who has the most power in his strikes and great wrestling and the size, and i bet he will have great cardio now, then JDS who has great punching speed and power, great sprawls, and a great ground game, and then Cain who might just be the best all around guy in the sport today. he has the speed, power, wrestling, cardio and he fights smart aswell. dana said in a interview that “brock’s boxing looks great when he’s trainging but when he’s getting punched in the face he isn’t comfortable with it, and he needs to start sparring more”.
Haha!!! Yea he definitely needs to get more comfortable with getting hit. I'm not sure if that's possible but it seems like when he gets hit in the face he starts to panic.
carwin+roids= croids
Don't forget Fedor. Fedor can still pawn all of these noobs on a good day.
but he's not in the ufc, so we will probably never know
Fedor is great but his hiatus from any real competition makes it hard to believe that he could beat any of the top heavyweight contenders in the UFC. Especially with his last lost to a former UFC throw away.
It was a contract dispute.
what i meant to say was that he seems to panic and then freeze and this time he didn't bounce back in time, i might be wrong about this but didn't he stand straight up as soon as the fight was over?
I read this just after the event, sounds like Shane will regret 116 for the rest of his life. He will likely hold the title at some point tho.
imo i think the title will change hands between cain, jds and carwin many times in the next couple of years and if brock works on his stand up game he might get the title again.
Word! Based on what I've seen out of all the top HW fighters I think I would make this conclusion, although the guy I'm most uncertain about is JDS because he has never faced a good wrestler.
Cain vs JDS = dangerous matchup for cain, but I would still go with Cain based on what I have seen of him, rahter than what i havn't seen of JDS
Cain vs Shane --> another dangerious matchup for Cain. The way he dirty boxed frank to sleep is flat out scary, along with his stand up. I see Cain getting rocked, its all about survinvg the first round liek with any other oppent of shane carwin.
JDS vs Shane --> I like that matchup for JDS, cause I know theywill stnad and bang, and even if JDS can't finish him, he can out cardio him most liekly
JDS vs Brock --> I like Brock in this one, he won't take chances, he'll take him down, chest on chest and punish him.
Brock vs Cain---> until i see changes in Brock I'm goin with Cain everytime
Brock vs Shane---> even though Shane dominated him I would still pick Brock in a rematch because of the cardio factor. i know this is the lke 5th time ive bashed shanes cardio, but i think he wuold have to change his physical layout to improve his cardio, which is hard to do.
I don't think it is ala that simple, but i didn't want to bore anyone with a full paragraph for each matchup, ill save it for when the fight is actually happnin
i'm really looking forward to seeing carwin against nelson, as nelson took JDS's best shots and didn't go out, i really think we will see a different carwin in this fight i think he is a smart fighter and he will relise what went wrong for him against brock and after seeing cain pick his shots i think carwin will be more calm and take his time.
nelson is getting thrown to the wolves here. first JDS and now carwin? he's going to get smashed by carwin.
you could look at this in one of two ways.
1. he's unlucky for having to fight the toughest guys because he's going to lose
2. he's lucky because he's getting the opportunity to boost himself by beating one of those guys.
in this particular case, i don't think it's going to work out for him unless he totally changes his physique and cardio.
it depends if carwin will have a new fight stratergy, nelson took all of JDS's shots which shocked me, but carwin has more power
what lesner needs right now is
1st - sparring paretners that Hit back & hit Hard to get him more accutomed to being hit hard
2nd - middleweights & lightheavies to elude him & make him focus his own speed to catch them
3rd - some specialty coaches that hound & drive him like an ox. Use the whip if they must, hold his family hostage, do whatever it takes to motivate him until he is the leanest & meanest he can be
4th - Mir 3, the final round
5yh - then a bout with a younger smaller quicker heavy that can box like a pro
SF Bellator, Dream etc
should be writing thier proposals for Nelson right now
and secretly getting foes lined up
or
could DW stand to cut Carwin for back to back losses? LAL
big Country might drop him like a bad habit
or crufix him to death
If Lesnar needs to learn how to strike better period if he ever wants a shot at that belt again
Lesnar needs to learn how to strike better period if he ever wants a shot at that belt again
If Brock would have been doing mma instead of all the wwe sh!t. he would be pretty dam good. but if u put ur mind to it he is pretty dam good for what he has accomplished in a little amount of time, including fighting through a life threatning health condition.
Who cares what Mir or Big Nog thinks ?
Not like either of them are getting the belt ever again lol
I thought Carwin got busted for roids? If he did, where is the 1 year suspension? Honestly I was one of those guys that thought Brock couldnt be beat. Size = Tough. I hadnt been real impressed with Cains fights enough to even think he could take Brock. Then when Cain won...It was time to see through the hype! Gonna be eating a bean burrito and drinking a Corona...Jack*ss
Have you watched a 155lbs vs a 155lbs. Do they run when they get tagged? Either you are a fighter or not. You can take a punch or not. Just because you get jacked up on roids doesnt make you a tough guy. Seeing Brock run from Cane, I just kept rewinding it and imagine a monkey on a string dancing for money while DW plays out tunes on his music box.
I think somewhere a long the way I personally lost sight of what MMA was all about...Go Cain!!
I actually wanted to know what came of that allegation about Carwin and roids. But as I saw it, he was allegedly on a list of a pharmaceutical company who had been known for distributing illegal "meds" to athletes around the world. The list though could of been just a list of customers since the company did sell protein drinks and other legal things of that nature.
I totally saw Carwin getting laced out by Nelson. Fortunately now though, Cro Cop might be able to get a chance to headkick someone.
frank mir doesnt deserve to look at the UFC heavyweight belt
Fedor is beast! Try beating him on the hardest level in EA MMA and find out! I think you get a trophy for it.
Frank Mir and The Nogs are not even close to title holders anymore you moron. Phhshh...Mir, Cmon man....get real. lol, and as for the Nogs, they aint nothing but gatekeepers now. they were never heavyweight title worthy. although it would be nice but realisticly, nope.
