Carlos Condit would rather fight Nick Diaz, but still hopes Georges St. Pierre wins
Posted on July 8, 2011, 05:53 PM by Joey Santosus“I’m going to sit down with my coaches, sit down with my management, possibly talk to Joe Silva, Dana White and I think after we kind of hash things out we’ll have a better picture of how that’s going to work out... There’s a lot of things to consider here and I don’t know exactly how it’s going to play out or what I’m going to do, who the next fight’s going to be. It would be easier for me to fight (Nick) Diaz just because of the whole team dynamic. I hope Georges (wins), he retains his title, but I’d rather fight Diaz so it’s kind of a tricky thing. - For more from Carlos Condit, visit MMAMania.com
"The Natural Born Killer" extended his current win streak to four last weekend, knocking out touted South Korean prospect Dong Hyun Kim just under three-minutes into the opening-round. The victory now makes Condit 12-1 in his last thirteen outings, losing only to Martin Kampmann via split decision in his UFC debut.
For many, the performance was convincing enough to warrant giving the former WEC Champion at crack at UFC gold, a title currently held by teammate Georges St. Pierre. Though GSP must first defend the belt against Nick Diaz, a bout expected for UFC 137 in October, who will await the winner of that clash is still unknown.
So what do you think LowKick'ers? Is Carlos Condit deserving of a title shot? And who does he match up better with, his training partner or the former Strikeforce kingpin?

i think condit vs nick would be a definate war
Ya I agree Condit vs Diaz has the possibility of being Fight of the Year....love to see that match up.....if Condit fights again b4 getting a title shot I would love to see him take on Penn or Fitch
too bad kampmann been getting robbed lately....Condit would probably get his chance to avenge that loss
Yeah im still upset about the kampmann - sanchez fight
diaz vs condit would have to be the most exciting matchup possible both of them are exciting fighters . i have said it before and will say it again gsp vs diaz will be a rather boring one sided affair .nick has never been able to deal to deal with strong athletic grapple rs condit vs diaz however pure fireworks. i know that diaz gsp means a better ppv sell but really who wants to see another 5 round gsp shutout
There's no way Condit deserves a title shot already, I know the UFC is looking for new contenders but he hasn't beat a top 5 fighter yet, he's gotta take out a Fitch, Koscheck, Shields, or Penn type fighter before he proves he's ready for GSP (or Diaz I guess)
Me. I can appreciate good technique and strategy.
i appreciate gsp's skills a lot but i really think diaz vs gsp is unnecessary diaz lacks the ability to make it a good fight
NBK most definitley deserves a Title shot. I think the Diaz fight would be a more interesting match-up, but I do think he could beat both.
I think he has deserved a title shot for a long time.
He is 12-1 since 2006 .. with that 1 loss being a split decision to Martin Kampmann and it was Condits 1st fight in the UFC.
That was 3yrs ago ... dude hasn't lost since.
and he has been destroying his opponents which is even better
N we the fans would rather see that fight Carlos. I can't wait til GSP moves ups to 185 so we don't have to see another boring WW title fight. N don't think I'm hating on GSP he's just boring as hell theres no questioning that.
If GSP ever decides to move to MW, pretty sure Fitch will become champ n stay champ like GSP is doing rite now
I agree with Ninja100%.
GSP will only move up if Silva retires.
Silva will only move down if GSP retires or up if Machida/Jon Jones retires
In Any other division Condit would be clear top contender but welterweights got so many contenders atm
People lose a lot of perspective. Condit is a top 10 welterweight. But I don't here the "he hasn't faced too competition" I do with other fighters (nick Diaz). NIck will beat gsp and then fitch then condit. Everyone underestimates him. Jackson won't so gsp has a good chance here. But...Diaz is the real deal and has made observable technical advancements. People say he has no tdd but his last wrestling fight in 2006 Sherk couldn't take him down at all. Diaz has a secret weapon I almost gurantee it.
sorry but your high diaz has never even beat one top ten WW then again someone of gsp's caliber dont buy into the hype
Paul Daley was ranked number 9 when Diaz beat him.
GSP is going down. Just watch. All three losses in the ufc way back in 2006 for Diaz were close enough to be draws. I suggest you go watch them again.
the parisyan fight was close sanchez sherk and riggs were not did you watch the fights or just listen to nick complain about them. okay so nick has beat 1 guy ranked in the top ten at #9 yay that doesnt really help your argument
Condit was #10 at the time.
Yes I just watched the Sherk fight. It was a close as any split decision could be. Sherk Failed on every takedown. All three announcers frank shamrock Joe and mike couldn't tell who won.
Diego was the same it just went deeper. Nick worked major tdd after this fight and it shows watch him stuff Sherk every time. Sanchez took nick down at will but also got swept and reversed just as much. He took a beating in nicks guard.
If you can tell what you are watching these are not disputable facts. If you bring these fights to pros they will tell you the same. It's been widely discussed by other fighters and coaches how Diaz fights. He is a top 5 WW.
Sanchez Riggs and Sherk were very close fights. Diaz could have been announced winner just as arbitrarily. Either was justified and that's where draws need to be decided. If fights are within a certain margin a margin of Eror should be used and called draws. We have had plenty bad calls lately.
Watch the fights again. Seriously. Your hatred for Diaz is in the way. I know I have had it too. I can't stand Jones or Lesnar. But I had to eventually admit how good they were. When Diaz beats the crap out of GSP (he may loose doing so) I hope you will see how dangerous this guy is. He beat the crap out of Daley (while getting rocked) and won. GSP would never do that (he has other tools). But I don't think he could either.
I watch technique not hyPe. If anything gsP has the hyPe for this fight. It's much closer than the average person thinks. From talking to fighters and trainers the professional mma world honks this is going to be gsp toughest fight.
Paul was ranked #8 when he fought diaz my bad.
i think gsp (should he win against diaz), retire of fight silva in a last fight. I know he isnt old or anything but after diaz/silva, anyone who he fights will be way too under him, even condiut. His legacy will be huge if he fights and wins against silva and simply retire the best fighter.
Condit is the last of the three major Champions at 170. If Diaz beats both him and Georges, then he establishes himself as the best at 170 in the whole darn world! Diaz has already beat Zarumskis who holds the Dream title at 170. noe it would seem as if he is the participant in a tournament of championship dream superfights.
Think he would beat Diaz but not gsp.
I'm telling you guys that Diaz is on a mission and he's got two more major champions to go to war with in order to establish himself as the best at 170. GSP is no walk in the park by any standard, I mean he is super strong an his cardio is unmatched. But Diaz may just be the man - the only man on the planet to surpass Georges in the stamina section of fighter attributes. He also likes to bring hell with him when he comes to the cage! Condit is the next fight for Diaz whether he wins or loses in my opinion. Just because of the entertainment value it would bring. These guys would bang it out just like Diaz vs. Daley!
Condit vs Diaz would be an awesome match up, i've always like Diaz since way back when he KO'd Lawler during his first run in the UFC but i also like Condit a lot too, i'd still LOVE to see that fight though. They are both on a tear, Diaz especially, and both have looked on top of their game, i also think that either of these guys would give GSP a good fight. Either way it's going to work out awesome cos - GSP vs Diaz =either GSP or Diaz vs Condit, personally i'm hoping for Diaz and Condit for the belt as the end result, which would mean that Diaz would have to beat GSP, something i actually think IS possible but, we'll see.....
