Triumphant Carlos "The Natural Born Killer" Condit shared thoughts about becoming the Interim UFC Welterweight Champion after the UFC 143 main event encounter with Nick Diaz. Condit will now face Georges St. Pierre for the undisputed title, with sights on cutting the French-Canadian's streak of six title defenses.

you guys are fools you put a guy in the main event and he runs away the whole time.

i understand trying to chop his legs down but carlos didnt even commit to his kick he didnt plant his feet and cut down on the leg he just throw kicks to score points not to win the fight if he landed that many kicks full force diaz wudnt be able to chase him

You call it "running"; Joe Rogan, Dana White, and every sensible and objective pundit and fan see it as "smart strategy" that won him the fight...The Jackson camp has learned from the Cerrone/Nate fight and designed accordingly the best plan to frustrate the former Strikeforce champ...CONDIT HAS DESERVEDLY WON, SO GET OVER IT!!! Diaz lost before; he's never been the best and, like his teammate Jake Shields, he's bound to be beat again by some of the UFC's tough welterweights...

Laughable how some people here call for a rematch...Diaz has lost fair and square...He's got to earn his way back to tile contention...Let's match him against some good competition (Jake Ellenberger / Kostchek at his best) and see how he fares...

I thought the outcome was fairly decisive, but I'd like to see a rematch somewhere down the line. If you have any serious holes in your game, you can rely on a Greg Jackson fighter to expose them. Nick lost to Condit, but Carlos won by being able to control where the fight took place. If Diaz mixed in a little bit of wrestling and varied his standup game a bit... Man there's some huge possibilities in what Nick could do with just a few small changes. I hope he chooses to grow rather than retire.

most of the time i would agree but Diaz has had his chances and in the last two fights never went all out to finish if this fight would of been like Edgar/

Manard yeah Carlos did go backwards and Daiz chased him but Daiz didnt throw and Carlos did dont care if going backwards or not 5 round Daiz should did something to make it his fight

yeah from having read a tons of posts now, I think the majority of us can agree that condid won (boringly or not) and deserves it. but everyone wants to see Diaz vs. GSP ... so let us just hope that condit gets injured and all of us satisfied: the fans, diaz, GSP, dana... and then the winner of diaz-GSP will fight condit for the title unification. may our prayers be heard

Condit was no threat to nick, only thing carlos controlled was running backwards...and joe rogan sounded like he was cheering for his girl friend in a volleyball game..i say the judges had thier heads up thier azzes along with rogan.and for carlos to think he won all rds he needs a reality check.he looked like shit.cant wait for gsp to smash this twit, and maybe by then nick will have worked his way bk up from this bs dec and get his shot at gsp

rogan was calling it how it went. nick diaz tried to corner condit, condit avoided being cornered and landed counterstrikes. there is nothing wrong with that. you say condit was no threat to diaz. well it appeared diaz was no threat to condit because he couldnt do shit. condit didn't do what any other diaz opponents do. he stuck to his own gameplan and didn't get caught up in the diaz bullshit. condit made diaz work instead of the other way

Strictly speaking, a dogfight in the term it's most commonly used in (aircraft combat) is a lot of positioning and movement with brief attempts to hit your opponent. That's kind of what happened this fight.

Condit made Diaz look bad since he outstruck Diaz and Diaz with his marathon running ability walked like frankinstien after his evasive manouvers. Condit fought very well and looked great doing it. I thought that one combo he did that ended with the head kick was awesome. Diaz only waved his arms around as if to think he should still be ahead because he wasn't in trouble.

if you know anything thing about nick u should know he doesnt do alot of takedowns, not his strong point. but once its on the ground his bjj makes up for his lack of take down strength.carlos is alot stronger and has way better take downs..why didnt he take nick down? cause he was scared of his bjj.just like he was scared of the stand up.why else would he be running backwards.how many fights have u seen carlos go bkwards? bs judging

And Diaz didn't catch him because he was afraid to use his marathon card and be exposed. You're being rediculous, he should have been wary of the Diaz guard but in striking the only thing he had to be wary of was getting cornered other than that he had this fight in terms of striking

@ViciousNature1- Condit was too evasive to be damaged in the stand up. Normally, that's where you'd say the other fighter needs to do something like clinch or takedown in order to impose his will. But instead, you excuse Diaz from having to do anything else because "Nick doesn't do a lot of takedowns because they're not his strong point."

Sounds to me like if Nick had worked on his wrestling a little bit more, he'd have had more options. How is Nick having an exposed weakness Condit's problem?

listen it might not of been the slugfest you wanted but condit won he outstruck diaz not by just a little but by nearly 50% more he controlled the entire fight he decided when and where the exchanges took place. diaz did nothing in that fight but walk forward and eat punches. if we are to talk shit about someone lets try diaz who apparently is incapable of fighting someone who isn't standing still. it is a joke that people think this guy is such a great boxer when he is so completely dumfounded by something as simple as lateral movement. diaz has shown once again that he is a incredibly tough and durable fighter who is always game, however once again he has shown that he lacks the intellect to adjust his fighting style when things aren't going his way. Diaz will always be one of the most talented fighters in the div but as they say fighting is 90% mental and diaz quite clearly is lacking on that front

nicks face looked worse than condits i am not sure how you define control but i would imagine that if nick had octagon control throughout the fight carlos would of been stuck against the cage getting beaten to a pulp. instead we saw a nick so completely lost that all he could do was throw his hands up and talk shit. octagon control is not defined by who is walking forward it is defined by who decides where the fighting is taking place whether it against the cage on the ground or in this case in the center of there ring where carlos used lateral movement to keep the entire fight despite nicks failed attempts to back him in a corener

Seriously though, why is it when someone wins a decision by technical stand up, people immediately go to start insulting their power? I personally want to see different styles in MMA, and don't want to see a return of the days when people went for nothing but knockout punches because that was the only way to win in the absence of judges.

Aggression does not always win you fights. It was similar to Dominick Cruz's solid victory over Uriah Faber. Ring generalship and control does not mean that you dictate the action. Counterpunching and avoiding exchanges have been Anderson silvas recipe for years. Condit came prepared and in shape, did'nt take the bait, and stuck to a solid en close!!!

Nicks biggest problem was listening to his corner. After round four, you can clearly hear Nate say, after losing round four, that Nick was up three to one in the fight. There was no sense of urgency, and his camp did him a disservice.

Nick has no power double like GSP does, and couldn't catch or put down condit until way too late. For me the true story of the fight was in the third round when Carlos threw a punch, left outside leg kick and a right high kick to the jaw in succession with no response.

    He won.....No argument!!!

Years ago I turned my back on boxing, because it went from finishing the opponent to winning the fight. Same thing happens to MMA.

I could care less about the results of which fighter won because I'm a fan of both, but I'm pretty disappointed due to the fact that we had a perfect recipe for an amazing fight and once again it was screwed by the current rules and brought to light inconsistencies with judging.

Just a week ago we seen constantly pushing forward while throwing less attacks win a fight. Just a week ago we seen a single takedown outscore a round over someone who had octagon control the rest of the round. And we've seen the opposite in this fight Just a week ago we seen that if someone gets taken down but gets right back up they lose a round anyway. Where is the consistency? What exactly determines if the judges score moving forward or being evasive and counterattacking as points? What determines how much a takedown is worth? What is it worth if you have the takedown defense to get right back up in 1 second every time they manage to get you down? Is just 100% determined by the mood of the judges at the time? How the hell could we expect them to be impartial?

This is besides the fact that the rules do not encourage fighting. Just look at what so many people are saying in this post - "It's not smart to fight Diaz straight up if Carlos did that he would have lost he couldnt knock him out". "Condit fought smart and won". Doesnt that alone indicate that the rules do not encourage fighting?

Shouldnt a fighter attempting to or nearly finishing a fight be awarded more than anything? Why does a fighter get awarded the most points possible when they decide to not try to finish? Why is it encouraged that fighters change their style to avoid finishing to get points?

The Carlos Condit we usually see is a far better fighter than the one we seen last night. And it's a damn shame.

Fair point about the scoring and judges but unfair to use Condit as an example. he won fair and square and we all know it.

I don't accept he wasn't trying to finish the fight. Look at how he loaded on many shots. Spinning back fists, head kicks and combinations. he was trying to finish alright - no doubt about it - but he was doing it in such a way to avoid Diaz's great boxing skills and dictate how the fight went. A worthy contender for GSP's belt if there ever was one.

Now Condit has shown he is versatile enough and smart enough to form a great gameplan and execute it I am very interested to see what he will do against GSP and I am more excited about that fight than Diaz GSP as we all know GSP would destroy Diaz.

I scored the first 2 rounds for Diaz, the 3rd, 4th and 5th to Condit. Very close fight. I did expect more of a war but I believe condit would of lost if he stood and threw more with Diaz. Condit fought a smart fight, not the most exciting but I do give him credit for his gameplan. I am not looking forward to GSP laying on top of condit for 5 rounds though.

I can understand Nick's frustration, if this fight was scored like a boxing match Nick would of most likely won all 5 rounds for dictatinng the pace and working the jab; unfortunatley for Nick this is MMA judging. Nick clearly did not prepare for Condits speed and illusiveness I believe he should of looked for a takendown early in the 3rd round when Condit started coming on strong.

This is proof that a good game plan and knowing your opponent is just as important as strength and technique in MMA.

the sport is called MMA for a reason this isn't a high school fight in the back of the gym you don't just win because you talk a bunch of shit during the fight n push a guy back. plain and simple look at the fightmetric and that can explain a lot also answer me this you saying that you look me aggressive n have octagon control can simply win the fight. condit was using good dodging techniques and amazing leg kicks. Ive been a condit fan since i saw him debut in the WEC and i knew this day would come he deserved it and you cant go back and time and change anything accept it and move on.

I understand many of the points made that the scoring is inconsistent and what value do you place on certain aspects of the fight, The bottom line is that the rules were the same for both fighters and Nick chose to fight his way. He may be the tougher man overall and with more gas in his tank, but he was not the smarter man who executed during the fight.

What I thought was funny was after the fight when Nick said they didn't pay him enough to continue fighting. Had he beaten condit, he would have had his 7 figure payday against GSP. Look in the mirror Homie!
