Carlos Condit: Nick Diaz is tough, but I have more weapons in my arsenal

Top Welterweight contender Carlos Condit, who will square off with Nick Diaz for the interim title at UFC 143, discusses his opponent, as well as the "emotional roller-coaster" that he's been on over the past few months. Condit admits that he is impressed by Diaz's toughness, but insists that he is the more dynamic fighter and will leave Las Vegas as the new champion.

Carlos Condit

"Diaz is very good with his hands. He does what he does very, very well. It's not only that he's good with his hands, but he also has just a relentless pace and relentless cardio. Mostly I'm impressed by his toughness. He's got some great skills, good boxing, good jiu-jitus, but it's just his warrior spirit. I feel like I'm a more technical fighter than Diaz. I have more weapons in my arsenal. I just bring some different stuff to the table. I have good movement, I use angles, and Diaz, for the most part, just comes straight forward."

I beleive this is a pretty even figth but I really want to see Diaz vs GSP...I want to see GSP reacting to someone that is not scared and just wants to push forward...that would be epic!

In other words you want to see GSP take Diaz down and dominate him for 25 minutes, don't you?

I don't think gsp vs nick is gonna happen, I really see condit taking it in 3 or less rounds, I think he's gonna overwhelm nick bad

I also prefer a Diaz vs GSP fight for the belt, but hope all the same that Condit will beat the former...I believe he has all the tools to halt the momentum of the former SF champ...

No. I want to see someone keep him from overpowering them and hold them down for five rounds. I want to see how GSP reacts when he finds he cannot overwhelm his opponent and impose his will.

I want to see someone pose a decent threat to his crown!

He hasn't had a fighter threaten his crown since he won the title back 3 years or so ago.

GSP will take Diaz down at will. Diaz is horrible against good wrestlers. Condit , right now is the biggest threat to GSP's title. That is until Rory Macdonald gets more experience. Just my opinion.

Def your opinion. Diaz lost controversial decisions against wrestlers. Try watching any of those fights. He reversed Diego every time, he stuffed 8/10 of sherks takedowns, he doesn't do horrible against good wrestlers. Horrible is having no defense. Unfortunately mma scoring doesn't favor bjj but only wrestling. Diaz has a sambo coach and trains with Ronda rousey. I am pretty sure he has excellent TDD if he wants too. He chooses to use and fight from his back. He devastated Diego from his back. The judges just don't know how to score mma grappling yet.

Try watching the fights rather than just spouting out hype.

No like I said he stuffed 8 of 10 takedown attempts. That's what 80 percent.

it hasnt been quite that long ago but the thing is diaz hasnt fought a decent grappler since then so we have no way of knowing if he has improved. logically we could assume that in the last five years he has gotten at least a little better against wrestlers. however although they were close fights there was nothing controversial about his losses. the fact is while he avoided taking almost any damage he also had zero offense thus losing the fight to octagon control. plus i might add that the likes of sanchez, sherk and pariysain arent even on the same level as gsp

I like how you guys refer to fights 10 years ago when trying to make points, like fighters don't evolve or learn.

And it's not true. Those were very close fights......10 years ago. 10 years of sambo training is a lot of wrestling.

Wow! The Diego fight was a good example. He and Nick had a war that could have gone either way.

Exactly yet everyone says diaz has trouble with wrestlers or bad TDD. Yet if you watch the fights you can see it's not true. Condit Diaz should be a war and condit can win for sure.

Well, we will see, angles and movement are very important if he is going to strike with Nick, cause he saw that just standing in front of him, with no head movement did not pay for Cerrone against Nate, hope he does not the same mistake.

I think Diaz might have to come at Condit with a different plan. Carlos is an aggressive striker as well, and much stronger than Nick, so if they stand and trade shots, I think Diaz would get knocked out. I think a lot of this will depend on how much respect Nick has for his opponent's power.

Carlos has kicks, and one strike knockout power... thats really all i can see the advantage he has... Diaz is going to be such a hard puzzle for him to figure out I think.... I just hope this fight isnt stopped due to cuts or something along those lines.

Condit is the toughest fight that Diaz has had since when?

    The Robbie Lawler fight?

Granted the Lawler fight didn't have the title at stake; but the energy and buzz surrounding the hype and anticipation feels similar to me.

Some argue that Daley was tougher.

I didn't want Diaz to fight Daley. It was too risky a fight with someone who hadn't earned the shot. Dangerous fight to take.

This is a dangerous fight as well, seeing as Condit is also a good striker, and he is not afraid to follow the fight where ever it may lead.

Condit vs. Diaz could be very similar to Cerrone vs Diaz.

Same coach vs Diaz Bros. Similar pluses and minuses between the two fighters. Same result?

Man I hope your reasoning on this is sound; because that is what i'd love to see!

But having the same coach as the guy that fought Nick's brother can only be a major plus for Condit. But can Condit implement this gameplan while being pressured heavily by Nick?

It could be a plus for Condit, but only if the Jackson can actually help him with the things he needs to adjust.

Seems to me that Nate had faster timing than Cerrone and a stronger will to win, things your coach can't help with as much.

Diaz' ground game has not been tested well recently. I don't think Condit can say he will outstrike Diaz easily but the gorund is always an option. It's been a long time since Diaz was impressive on the ground I can't wait to see what happens saturday night!

5 round fight of the year, draw. At this point I would rather see them fight twice, these are the most exciting fighters in the division. GSP can go hump jon fitch for all I care.

Carlos is a versatile, tough, well-rounded fighter who isn't afraid to take the fight anywhere it goes. He tries to impose his will on you and has a good chin and alot of heart. This is going to be an awesome fight!!

Its not only about how many weapons you have, but who enforces their will and who's fight will be fought. Nick Diaz always gets the fight he want going. If it stands diaz will take it and WIN, if it goes on the ground what he did to cyborg will happen again. Rory Macdonald has the best chance of beating diaz, even he'd get hurt tho.
