Cain Velasquez destroys Brock Lesnar in the First Round

Undefeated Cain Velasquez did what so many people failed to do before him, by destroying the UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. Velasquez dominated Brock Lesnar from he first minutes of the fight, before damaging the gigantic wrestler with a vicious knee and series of punches.

Lesnar gave a traditional strong opening to the fight, landing a series of knees on Cain Velasquez's mid section. Lesnar continued his onslaught with a good takedown, but the way Cain Velasquez stood back from the ground was a sign of things to come. The biggest surprise in the fight was that Cain Velasquez managed to take down Lesnar to the ground with a visible ease, punishing the champ with hard punches from the top. Brock Lesnar's spirit was broken from that moment on, and it was only a matter of time before Cain Velasquez finished the fight.

Lesnar awkwardly lost his footing and rolled on the floor, allowing Cain Velasquez to rain down a series of punches from the top. It was an exact position Brock Lesnar found himself against Shane Carwin, but this time the South Dakota-native had no way out of his opponent's claws.

Hurt and bloodied Brock Lesnar had nothing to offer against Cain Velasquez, as the referee Herb Dean stepped in to stop the contest at 4:01 of Round 1, to crown the "Brown Pride" as the new UFC Heavyweight Champion.

Lesnar could now face his arch nemesis Frank Mir in the next fight. Junior Dos Santos is next for Cain Velasquez, as the new Heavyweight King looked fresh and healthy after four minutes with Brock Lesnar.

Cain Velasquez is a new UFC Heavyweight Champion. Will it be a start of the new era?

I bet you would he would have a drink with Cain and be a good sport about it. He congratulated Cain, and called him the superior fighter. Just like he did with Mir. Congratulated him for being the superior fighter that night.

Cain and Lesnar will probably fight 5 times before they're done. Lesnar will hold the belt again, they'll probably trade it with everybody else competing for 3rd place.

Fedor would get blasted by Cain too. So would Ali.

i bet against Cain too , but i'm happy he won. That was damned impressive the way he handled Lesnar.

I wonder though if Cain was that good or was Lesnar not at 100%. He seemed to tire very quickly.Maybe the shots from Cain were harder than they appeared and he was dazed rather than tired? Regardless it was a great performance by Valasquez.

Lesnar doesn't gas in half a round. Lesnar has good endurance (epic endurance for his size). He got blasted, and blasted, and blasted, and smashed in the face. His face was hamburger. He was hurt, not fatigued.

@hey partyboy, did you like my prediction of r2 for cain and that he wouldnt just beat him but destroy him. everyone was starting to say the same thing, brock would win early but if cain took it to 4 and 5 then cain would win. did they forget that when carwin started hitting him it was almost over in the 1st,but shane gassed and didnt hit brock enough when he was on his back. it was a replica, he doesnt like getting hit and tries to cover up on the floor. im very happy cos all the people talking brock up as the potential best heavyweight ever, just came crashing back down to reality. He was humble in defeat, has big heart and doesnt seem a bad guy but all this gretaness talk, come on.

sorry about this stony because i'm not one to start an argument but having read" one of your recent essays on this site please explain. and i quote.."Shane is the only one that is capable of taking the belt. Cain cannot wrestle with Lesnar. He doesn't have the pure wrestling, he doesn't have the power. Cain can't knock Lesnar out, his punches don't compare to Carwin's. Even if Cain did manage to get a combination started, a flurry like Shane did, he wouldn't be able to do anything with it. He doesn't have the power in his punches to make Lesnar bother doing anything but walking straight through them to take Cain down. Lesnar can knock Cain out. It looks like hand-speed and cardio are Cain's advantages, but I'm not sure what good those will do him"

Totally fair mrm. Did you know Cain hits that hard though? Roy was un-effected by his very clean, very on-the-button punches. When that sports annalist break down said he has the strongest punch that they'd ever recorded, did that surprise you? If you look on the public board, I said before the fight that that new info changed my prediction, that he did have the power to do it.

Cain proved me wrong. *shrug*. He's got the best HW hands in MMA history. And Lesnar is probably the only one who will challenge him, for a long long time.

I don't think cain would blast Fedor. Infact, i think this was about the equivalent of Fedors last fight..only Brock didn't throw it away, but other people in the room thought he threw the fight.

I agree madness, there seems to be so many match ups that could go either way. Right now though..I don't see anybody beating Cain for bit. I can't say how good JDS is on the ground so I'm looking at that as a ground and pound for CAIN.

Says the fight expert that proclaimed Lesnar an 'unprecedented athletic phenom'. He's now 5-2 and both his last fights he looked weaker than anyone else in the hw division so keep dreaming.

'Ooh, he so freakishly fast and strong' bla bla bla. You were right about him being a fast runner though.

I never got why people called Brock a "freak athlete". He's just a big guy that moves well and knows how to use it. Meanwhile, Cain weighs 240 pounds, punches harder than George Foreman, tackles harder than an NFL linebacker, and his heart rate never goes above 167 bpm? THAT'S a freak athlete.

fedor beating brock was never in doubt in my mind. fedor has dealt with big guys on top before and pulled arm bars from the bottom and his striking would have torn through brock. The brock band wagon got started and most jumped on board, not able to see that this mean s.o.b couldnt strike. he almost came unstuck to carwin, tonight he has. i think if jds works on his ability to get up as cain did then he will smash brock aswell. he will let his hands go and hurt brock. brock just doesnt like it when someone starts catching him. He runs, and tries to cover up, he just doesnt know what to do.

Cains with nog was orgasmic. That clinic he was putting on made me jizz in my pants. But if you watch Cains fight he does get hit. So we know Dos Santos will hit him, it will be all about if Cain decides to stand and test his chances. Plus Dos Santos has Fedor like hips and is hard to get down. But Cain is just such a superior grappler he will stick to dos santos like glue.

He wasn't tired, he was dazed I think. He's in much better shape than he was vs Heath. He doesn't have a 1/2 round gas tank. Cain just throws bombs.

I said Cain would have to land like Anderson landed on Leben, and he did. Pretty amazing.

Take it you aklready placed your vote for Cain then ston3.t's too fkin early to tell how good Cain will turn out to be. He has to beat the likes of JDS and Carwin before he can be touted in any p4p terms. Beating Brock was inevitable and so now you choose a new hero to wank over - Cain. And when he gets beat the victor will be the newest love of your life.

Learn to look at things objectively, and stop hugging them bloody dangleberries so tight.

"Brock lesnar being number is just stupid, dude. This guy has had 6 fights, has shown absolutely no stand-up in the carwin fight, he started to actually run when carwin came in. His guard was non-existent and carwin punched himself out, the only thing that gave him the win was carwin's excitement and his big hard head taking the shots.

Do you really think Overeem with his world class stand-up (it literally is world class), experience 45 fights, having a working guard, athleticism and submissions that he is below brock on the rankings.

Yea, the guy just keeps getting better. Its fun for some to hate the guy, but you got to respect what he accomplished in such short time. He beat some great guys. People would rather argue the quality of those guys then to realize Brock was brand new to the sport, so technically any of them were supposed to be leaps and bounds ahead of him. He never had a single amateur bout! Not to mention the guy single handily rejuvenated an otherwise extinct division. I like Cain tho, not the most exciting individual, but a great fighter. Shouldn't take long for Brock to bounce back and I do not think JDS is the guy to beat Velasquez....

Brock is getting better yes, but we know know he can't possibly be p4p material in the rankings since as the biggest guy he lost to a much smaller opponent and was dominated as he was dominated before by a guy who was near his size. p4p is not related to brock lesnar even compared to me. yes he would kill me but i know I have more skills other than wrestling than he does.

Yeah, these elite wrestlers are very good at adopting new skills. He'll improve like Koscheck improved. He's still new to the sport. Fedor never fought anybody like Cain, let alone in his 6th fight. Boxing is one of the most difficult sports to learn, he'll get better he just needs experience.

Brock got beat because he got out wrestled. If he could have held Cain down he would have won. Cain was a beast and his wrestling was the biggest difference in the fight. Everyone is talking about his striking but his wrestling is what impressed me tonight.

What I noticed from a wrestling standpoint is that these big guys can take Cain down, but he is just too fast and explosive to keep down. And in the fight when Brock did the spin and went back against the cage, Velasquez rushed in and just before he got to him, paused for a split-second, that was complete ring intelligence, Brock let his guard down and got blasted out of the belt.

Cain will probably get his share of huggers, but I reckon Cain will be an established top 2 or 3 fighter for years to come, possibly #1 fighter, whereas Brock will get a few more beatings and then probably retire.

I wonder if we'll get to see Brock - Mir 3 now. I dont think brock should take on Carwin as it could be another beating, but Mir/Brock would be interesting.

Brock reminded me of Bob Sapp in this fight, with the way defended himself, his skills, and his retreat when being rocked. It was laughable. You can hate this comment all you want but he hasn't proved to me that he has the tools to even be in the UFC.

I really think Brock does not like getting hit... Think about it...

His whole life he was a big huge bully, nobody prob ever punched him in the face, on the street or school or a bar ect ect

Now in the UFC, i really think he's not use to getting hit... He curls

up and just covers his head, and not that well either.

Cain had all the right tools to beat him, I bet against him, prob wont

I dont think his cardio will ever be good enough for 5 rounds.

3 rounds is pushing it, for a man that size.

He's a one hit fighter... a good game plan and Cain would beat him up also. Its just those big dudes have a hard time getting up from the bottom. If you notice if Brock is on his ass he gets smashed, but when he rolls over on his knee's, he can stand back up, its the only way for big guys like that to hop up.

Key is to get them down... then its tko time.

Carwins only real issue is cardio, whereas Lesars was he was outclassed. Carwin wouldnt be outclasse3d for as long as e had cardio and would only need to land a couple to have cain bang in troube. If carwin does sort out cardio isses then Cain - Carwin will be one the best HW fights for quite a while, could be an absolute cassic.

Brock committed a felony for pushing a police officer on live tv. Yes its a felony in all 50 states and every country in existence. npot only will you be arrested, beaten and dragged to the jail. but you will never be able to hunt. own a gun, or even vote because you are a convicted felon. so go ahead, find a random officer and push him. tell him i said so. he will probly enjoy the felony arrest

that would have been something if that cop arrested Brock on live tv just moments before the main event.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I picked Cain to win and swas a great victory, but feel sorry for how Brock looked at the end, with that beard he looked like a homeless dude getting beat up.

Good to see him in post fight interview respecting and congratulating Cain.

I cant wait for Cain vs JDS in the near future

You think Brock might cut some weight now? This loss should make him realize that although size is important, it isn't everything. Speed and technique > size and power. i'm not saying that this is one hundred percent the way it is though. And which punch gave Brock that killer gash? No matter how many times I watch the replay, I can't see which strike did it to him.

I think it may actually have been a jab after Cain had just got back to his feet from a takedown. Didn't see no blood instantly, but it made brock pause for a second.

exremely happy for velasquez. i was smiling throughout the fight seeing lesnar manhandled like that. i'm not a lesnar hater, but seeing that technique wins over pure power and strenght is awsome. good day for mma. It will be interesting to see were lesnar goes from here.

i just want to say to everyone who counted Cain out, and said he 'couldnt' even knock out check kongo, look at him now, most of you clowns on here rode lesnars **** but this is MMA and anyone has a chance in any fight.

Lesnar didnt even look like an MMA fighter in this fight totally out classed, i loved the sommersault and the cartwheel, hows that for your circus act, hahahaha,

and no im not on anyones band wagon just a fan of MMA and I think anyones stupid for **** riding anyone, GSP lost to serra, silva was that close to losing to sonnen... just be realistic instead of talking shit.

Heard a rumour somewhere that Lesnar is going back to the WWE for 1 more match against the Undertaker @ Wrestlemania, apparently McMahon is throwing shitloads of money at Brock for this 1 time match. Anyone know if this is true or not??
