Cain Velasquez: JDS has the best overall technique I've ever seen at Heavyweight

Reigning Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez, who will go head to head with Junior dos Santos at UFC on Fox, discusses a variety of topics, including his injury induced layoff, his first title defense, the signing of Alistair Overeem, and the return of Brock Lesnar.

Cain Velasquez

"I've seen some of the promos that they've had for our fight and I think it's a great thing that they're giving this much publicity to us. I'm very proud to be in this position and that the UFC has chosen us, our fight, to be on Fox. So, I'm happy. I think we're both exciting fighters and then for it to be a Heavyweight Championship fight, that's the biggest thing out there. Everyone wants to see two big guys go out there and fight. So, you're going to see two of the best big guys go out there and fight that night. It's going to be fast paced. Seeing his fights, he moves really quick. He has a high pace and I do too. I think that's why they chose our fight, it's definitely going to be a great fight...He's definitely going to be more dangerous with his boxing - his power. He's got a lot of speed, his technique overall is definitely the best I've seen as far as Heavyweights in the sport or in the UFC. So, all of those aspects are going to be really tough to handle. I never go in thinking about a knockout. I always think about it being a tough fight for five rounds. But, anything can happen with those small gloves that we have on."

the one thing we know about the Lesnar vs Overeem fight is that its going to be a demolishment. We dont know who is going to demolish who but its definately not going to be a war. Lesnar cant stand with Overeem long enough for it to be a war on the feet and Overeem wont be able to do anything when Lesnar starts jerking off on his face (his hammerfists). Whoever wins this fight is going to win in the first round.

I agree with what you said, Cain. JDS's technique overall is definitely the best in the Heavyweight division and that is exactly why he's going to be the new UFC Heavyweight champ after the fight is over.

IMO in the UFC Carwin & Lesnar are the two toughst style match-ups for Overeem.

I understand he's the UFC champ, but honestly I don't think he's got the best skill set in MMA or the UFC in HW's. He's still young, and doesn't have all the much experience. A statement like that should be made after he actually defends the belt a couple of times, and also on how he defends it.

I've seen all of Cain's fights in the UFC and he has always been the dominant fighter against his opponents. It's always a one sided fight with him, so to say that the guy hasn't the best skill set is a little weird. His got the best wrestling in the HW division in my opinion, that alone is enough to make him dangerous. But in my opinion the thing that makes him really tough to beat is that his a smart fighter. He's not claiming to get a knockout in the first round, his preparing for a 5 round fight.

I cant beleive you say that, Brock was brought in to be the "Baddest man on the Planet and looked like he was going to live up to that ... You do not remember how well Cain defended his takedowns,, man Lesnar is a Monster takedown artist and Cain got up pretty easy on him and Cain also has the Best Hands in the HW Division not to mention his Gas tank so I believe you need to re- think that one.....

Cheik Kongo? Cain won, but it was not a dominant fight. He's only had 9 fights, 7 in the UFC. Two biggest names he beat is Brock and Nog. Nog is a shadow of himself and Brock's stand up is on an amateurish level at best. The only great skill Cain in my eyes is his wrestling and stamina. None of the fighters besides Kongo are true strikes and we saw what happened when he face a decent striker, he got rocked 3 times. I'm not saying he is not a good fighter etc. It's incredibly premature to say he has the best skill set in the HW division with him only defeating 2/3 top fighters. If it said that he's got the potential to be a great HW, i wouldn't have a problem with it. My 2 cents.

dude your 2 cents aint worth 2 cents you just contridicted yourself saying his hand are not top notch yeah he got rocked by a striker then he knocked that striker down WITH STRIKES then pounded him out oh BIG DEAL HE BEAT THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP OF THE WORLD AND HE KO'ed a guy that is well known fore not being able to finish,,so I guess you are right he still needs to proove himself??????? CAP alert. Guy, relax. Life is full of contradictions. But to answer you, yes he does need to prove himself. Anderson has proven himself, GSP has proven himself, has Cain proven himself? He hasn't even defended his belt. Winning a title is one thing, but defending it is a whole different ball game.
