Bjorn Rebney: Anderson Silva vs. Hector Lombard would be one heck of a fight

“We have an incredibly dominant champion. It’s not easy. I think, right now, when you look at Vitor Vianna and Alexander Shlemenko, we could provide a good test for Hector Lombard. I think he’s one of the best two middleweights on earth. I think Hector is an absolute monster.

I think there’s one guy on earth right now that I would look at and say to myself, ‘He could beat Hector.’ His name is Anderson Silva. I don’t know that I would pick Anderson to beat Hector, but it would be one heck of a fight. We’ll see what happens with Alexander and Vitor, and one of those guys is going to come out with a big win.” - Sherdog.com

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney predicts an unbeatable run for his reigning Bellator Middleweight Champion, with UFC's Anderson Silva being the only man who can hypothetically beat "Shango".

Lombard is currently unbeaten for almost 5 years, currently enjoying a tremendous 23-fight win streak. Thirty-three year old Cuban will square off against Trevor Prangley in a non-title contest at Bellator 58, which will also feature Bellator Middleweight Tournament Final clash between Alexander Shlemenko and the Wand Fight Team product Vitor Vianna.

Bellator 58 will take place on November 19, at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The event shapes up as one of Bellator's best; in addition to the mentioned above Middleweight scraps, Eddie Alvarez returns to action against Michael Chandler, Marlon Sandro fights Rafael Dias, and WMMA veteran Lisa Ward takes on Jessica Aguilar goe toe-to-toe in the main card opener.

My nomination for funniest quote of the year!

    What? He's serious? Oh.

Hector's list of wins reads as a "who's not who". Mousasi is probably his best known opponent, but Lombard lost that one...

I'd be real interested in this bout. I really like Lombard but his aggressiveness wouldn't do him any favors against Anderson's counter punching & length.

Talking like this really means that Bjorn Rebney is trying step by step have Bellator fill the gap that is going to be left by Strike Force once it is completely absorbed in the UFC. Who knows, maybe Bjorn gets lucky and Bellator grows to the point where it gets bought by Zuffa too. I used to support organizations rising to challenge the UFC but purchase after purchase has shown just how very serious Zuffa is to be THE LEAGUE where the best fight the best. As a fan, I now feel that Bellator (and anyone else that ties down elite fighters) are a hindrance to having top fighters like Hector and Eddie fight the best.

Enough already... Zuffa has won the fight to be the sole league for elite fighters, World Wide. A few years ago, I wouldn't have imagined myself ever saying that.

Lombard would struggle against Silva's reach and as he likes to trade more than anything he would be out of his comfort zone trying to implement an alternate gameplan.

Lombard would get his but kicked.. Pair him with Chael he would lose, Vitor he would lose, even Brian Stann would destroy Lombard hes not even top 10, keep him fighting no buddys and let him keep his record.

You have to give him respect, he is 23-0-1 in his last 24 fights, almost all of which were finished. He hasn't faced the top guys, but any win streak like that, with that much domination at a professional level, deserves some respect. I'd love to see him in the UFC. Him and Mousasi and Werdum and 3 guys I'd love to see in the UFC.

Lombard is losing in almost every aspect of the game to Anderson, and as everybody mentioned Lombard didn't fight with top 10 fighters, I guess Bjorn Rebney is exaggerating.

You can't really say Lombard fought 1 well known fighter and lost. Beside Mousasi, he also fought Akihiro Gono and lost. So he fought 2 well known fighters and lost to both.

But to be fair, he seems like a beast with huge forearms and his losses were 5 years ago.

Looks like this board refuses to give Lombard any respect. He'd be a handful for any UFC MW.
