Looks like the war of words between Michael "The Count" Bisping and Chael Sonnen is getting underway. This time it was Bisping who shared his prediction for UFC on FOX 2 co-main event clash, claiming that Chael Sonnen will be in a whole world of trouble if he tries to use his wrestling-based fighting style in Chicago.
Bisping has four submission victories on his record (technically 3), with the last of them coming against Ross Pointon at Cage Warriors Strike Force 4 fight card, which took place more than six years ago. As for Sonnen, the linear UFC Middleweight Champion was Submitted 8 times in his MMA career, four of them by fighters representing Brazil.

I agree with flash. I have Sonnen by 3rd rnd TKO, but Bisping's best asset coming into this is his confidence. Without that, any chance has has will be gone.

Bisping does have a chance. I feel he actually has a pretty good chance. He has solid tdd, underrated ground skills, and good, technical standup. I just don't think it will be enough.

if i couldn't hate bisping anymore he goes and says ignorant shit like " i consider myself a blackbelt in BJJ"... like no dude you can't just consider yourself a blackbelt. on avg it takes like 10-12 years to get a bjj blackbelt its a huge honor and you can't just claim to be on that level just because you had a training camp with world champions -_-
@bluntsandbeers- He said he considers himself a black belt based on his skills from rolling with guys like Shields, who is pretty damn good even for a black belt. He was good enough to submit someone in his very first professional fight in 38 seconds via armbar about 8 years ago, so he'd clearly had some training even back then. So, we're looking at probably about 9 years of experience. Add on the fact that as a professional fighter, he trains WAY more than the average person and with higher quality sparring partners, and his claim is fairly credible.
Remember his fight with Denis Kang? Denis Kang is a BJJ black belt, and he couldn't do crap do Bisping for 4 minutes of the first mount, despite rocking him first, staying on top for 4 minutes, and getting mount twice. No significant ground and pound, no submissions, nothing. The next round, Bisping took him down and beat the crap out of him. I think saying he's a black belt level grappler might be justified.

First, Bisping said that he will submit Chael not because he has "elite" bjj skills, but because Sonnens are virtually non existent. 8 of his 11 losses come by way of submission. Second, Sonnen won't submit Bisping. He pulled that arm triangle out of his ass against Brian Stann but won't catch anyone with significant fight experience with it. Don't get me wrong, I think Sonnen will win. But he'll do so by Fitching the fight.
@jtalbain i agree, due to the fact that he has trained extensively in mma for so many years I'm sure bisping has high level jiu jitsu compared to your average person. he just compared himself to dean lister and jake shields, he's not even close.
you simply cannot rank yourself in bjj, i do not care how good you think you are or how long you have trained, thats an insult to the art. if bisping entered a bjj tournament as a blackbelt,I'm pretty sure he would get his ass submitted very quickly. theres a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE between mma fighters who train bjj for mma, and blackbelts(like the ones he mentioned) who trained pure bjj before there transition into mma. you have no idea how complex bjj is, and how skilled you have to be to be a blackbelt. he won't submit sonnen i guarantee you that.
Lol, I train BJJ myself, I have a fairly good idea how complex it is. And stop being elitist with your ideas about martial arts. BJJ is a skill like any other, it can be measured by comparison with other people of known skill levels. This is one of the primary purposes of any competition.
How would you have any idea how good Bisping is at BJJ? He chooses to remain standing and punch people. It doesn't mean he can't roll with the best of them. Just because you don't have a belt doesn't mean anything. A belt is just a formal ranking system, intended to signify the level of the person's skill, the level of skill is not dependent on the possession of the belt. When someone graduates from brown belt to black belt, they don't all of a sudden miraculously sprout new submission skills or anything.
Bisping is saying he believes his skills are comparable to a Jiu-jitsu Black Belt, even if he doesn't possess the belt. He doesn't care if anyone else agrees with him.

I guess if Chael gets subbed he will deserve it. If you can't learn from your mistakes you are destined to repeat them...But it took the best fighter in the world 4 1/2 rounds to do it. Bisping is not Anderson Silva and has only 3 rounds. What's so hard? Trying to throw up a sub while 300 elbows are flying at your face with ill intentions.
Only the best fighter in the world. And 7 other fighters. I dislike Bisping and he will probably lose handily in my opinion but its not far fetched for him to believe he can submit Chael. Considering thats his achilles heel.

So Bisping is rolling with Lister..Hopefully not here in San Diego....And I think Chael should dominate but lets not forget about allll of his loses....He Has had mediocre fights his whole career and lost too some not soo good guys. I also have jumped on the bandwagon as of late but starting to question my credibility. This dudes mouth has seriouslly taken over mma and all who enjoy. I coulbe be wrong but I believe his loss count is in double digits. I see the fight as fairly even. The oddsmakers in Vegas are smoking dope if they feel Bisping really deserves to be a +350 underdog to Chael's -450 favorite. I'd see it as betting 100 dollars to possibly win 350 on the outcome of a coin flip. I'll take that bet all day.

I hope Chael is looking past Bisping and gets caught with another triangle, Bisping has been preparing for one of the best if not the best grapplers in MMA. I think he will be well prepared to fight off his back. But easier said than done with Chael hammer fisting him in the face.

Im a blackbelt in BJJ under the great Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.
He's got about 9 years of experience grappling and was just able to test himself against Jake Shields to judge. Next time try thinking before you open your mouth.
9 Year of what rolling around? with Jake Shields and Dean Lister? in thous 9 years has he ever taken up classes or sit down and have a formal lesson? or was that 9 years he was sitting down on the sideline and occasionally would be partnered up with Shields or Lister. This 9 years grappling with Lister and Shields do you know that Lister and Shields EXCLUSIVELY worked with Bisping? For all we know that in "9" years Bisping Trained with Lister and Shields only totals to 6 hours of actual grappling with one or the other. Unless you can definitively say he worked with Lister and Shields for that 9 FULL years then maybe YOU should think before YOU open your mouth. For all we know Bisping trains in the same Gym as Lister and Shields for 9 years.
Do you seriously think that as a mixed martial artist he doesn't practice grappling all the time? If he's like most other MMA fighters, he probably does more BJJ training than the average joe who's BJJ training is their only martial arts experience.
On top of that his first experience with martial arts was training traditional jiu-jitsu under 3x World Champion Paul Lloyd Davies, starting when he was 8 years old. He didn't even start training a striking martial art until he was 18, when he began kickboxing. All this is in addition to the experience he has just from the grappling learned during his professional MMA career.
So now we're at 10 years of Jiu-jitsu under a world champion plus the eight years of grappling training in MMA, plus training in camps with Lister and Shields... Is that enough for you to let him estimate his skill level yet?

Except that he chooses to keep it standing and tko people, something he's clearly good at since he's done it 19 times. Saying he doesn't know how to submit people because he uses his grappling experience to remain standing most of the time is like saying Liddell had no idea how to wrestle because he didn't take people down.

Sonnen's lucky he got to fight Anderson on roids when Ders was hurt. If it wasn't for that we wouldn't even be having this Bisping up to fight Chael rather than Demian Maia. If anyone remembers the last time Maia and Sonnen fought you'll see what I mean. Dana wanted to give Sonnen and safe fight so he'd be lined up with Silva. Now as for Bisping saying he would submit Sonnen if he takes him down, isn't that unrealistic. You don't have to be a black belt to catch Chael Sonnen. I think this fight will be a lot closer than what a lot of people anticipate, but I think we'll see a lot of lay and prey from Sonnen. I for can never root for Sonnen, but wouldn't mind seeing him win this time so Ders can give him the beating he's deserved since he first mentioned the word Brazil.
