In the first Heavyweight contest of the evening, the Dutch “Hurricane” Gilbert Yvel and Ben Rothwell will get a second opportunity in the UFC. Both Heavyweights are known for heavy hands and a tremendous knockout power that brought them this far in their careers, as nothing but a striking war expected at the GM Place in Vancouver.
Despite the fact that both fighters are coming off a TKO losses, Gilbert Yvel is a big favorite in this contest according to LowPick. The Dutchman leads with 59% of the votes, as 88% of his voters believe the fight will end by a knockout. Yvel has 31 knockouts (out of 36 career victories) to his record, against Rothwell’s 17 knockouts and 11 submissions. Anything can be expected in this fight, but one thing is for sure: there won’t be any dull moments after these two heavyweights enter the cage.

| Round 1: The first Heavyweight showdown of th eevening is underway, and they are swinging right off the bat! Ben Rothwell unleashes powerful combos, pushing Gilbert Yvel to the fence. The Hurricane is looking for a Guillotine Choke here, but Rothwell manages to escape. Yvel punishes Rothwell with a powerful bombs from the top, but the fighters go to stand up again. Short work in the stand-up, as Yvel is looking for a Guillotine again. Rothwell escapes and stays in the side control. Yvel manages to get up for a second, but Ben Rothwell pins him down and gets himself into a full mount position. Elbows and Punches from Ben Rothwell here, Gilbert Yvel defends himself trying to get up, and somehow manages to grab Rothwell's leg for a leglock. Yvel escapes again, with a fantastic roll over. Yvel unleashes his fury with a powerful head kick that stuns Rothwell, another combo from Yvel and Ben Rothwell looks hurt. First Round ends, as Ben Rothwell manages to weather the late storm. 10-9 Big Ben. |
| Round 2: Second round is underway, as Ben Rothwell immediately takes Yvel to the ground. Ben Rothwell shows a little signs of exhaustion, doing very little damage from his side control. The Hurricane works his way from the bottom, but struggles to shake Big Ben off. Rothwell is now in a full mount, looking to finish the fight. He punishes Yvel with a very good elbows and punches, looking calm and steady. Yvel manages to get up, back to the stand up. Another wasted chance by Rothwell, who immediately takes Yvel down. Incredible sweep from Gilbert Yvel! He is raining ground and pound here, connecting with a very good punches. Ben Rothwell is seriously hurt here, Gilbert Yvel with a devastating ground and pound. Ben Rothwell manages to survive the late onslaught again... he gets up and manages to take Yvel down again. Well, the second round ends with Rothwell in full mount again. Yvel leads here damage-wise, but it is Rothwell who will probably get another 10-9 round on the judges cards. |
| Round 3: Yvel immediately looking for the takedown, but it is Ben Rothwell who manages to find himself on top. Rothwell is in side control here, doing a little damage from the top. Full Mount again from Ben Rothwell, as Gilbert Yvel struggles to get up. Both fighters are giving their best effort here, as now Ben Rothwell is looking for Kimura. Yvel defends this approach, but finds himself stucked in the Crucifix position, Ben Rothwell punishes Yvel with elbows and punches. Gilbert Yvel struggles to defend himself in this round, with Ben Rothwell staying on top of him most of the time. The fight ends, and it looks like Ben Rothwell will get a Unanimous Decision here. A tactical, but yet a lackluster performance from Rothwell in my opinion. Yes, Rothwell wins a well-earned Unanimous Decision here, which saves his UFC career. |

i voted for yvel because ive seen more of his fights but i know ben is gonna take it
I'm not a huge fan of either fighter but took Yvel. I see it as a quick fight though either way. Probably stand in front of each other and throw bombs, unless one of them decides to try to get "technical".
I voted for Yvel too, but have the feeling that Ben "the ugly mofo" takes this one. :(
Yvel will KO him then KO the ref.
