Ben Henderson vs. Frankie Edgar II set for Summer event

A Lightweight rematch between newly crowned division Champion Benson Henderson and former title holder Frankie Edgar will take place this Summer.

UFC President Dana White has confirmed the bout, which was initially revealed by Edgar via Twitter:

"Rematch anyone??.......it's on!! Thanks to @danawhite @lorenzofertitta. Me and Henderson 2. Here we go!!"

Edgar was dethroned by Henderson after coming up short on the judges' scorecards at UFC 144 in Japan. Despite being offered an instant title shot at 145-pounds, the former champ remained steadfast in his campaign for a rematch, and it now appears he'll get his wish.

Henderson, meanwhile, captured the title on the heels of a three-fight winning streak, which saw the former WEC champ derail a trio of top contenders. Though originally expected to make his first defense of the belt against the last man to defeat him, Anthony Pettis, "Smooth" will now look to silence any doubters with a decisive victory over "The Answer."

An exact date or venue for the title fight has not yet been revealed.

how is it nonsense, alot of people including me taught frankie won, some people score a fight by damage" mostly teens" but some score it by rounds and i had frankie winning 4-1 giving ben the 4th frankie has a right claim for a rematch and if he wins the rematch they will be some answering from alot of spec saver clients on this site

Yeah ! I hope Bendo will finish Frankie this time !

I like Frankie, but come on, in the first match with Penn who was very close , he acted like if he won ,with his cornermen to convince the judges to give him the decision , and in the last fight against Ben henderson, It was shocking that he still acted like he won ,after getting a beating for 25 Mins. .. He is an unbelievable fighter, but ,when you lose ,dont act like if you won.

    This is JUSTICE!

In many peoples opinions, includng mine, D White and Lorenzo Fertita, Frankie won.

Fair enough if you think Bendo won but you can not say this was a super close fight, if you do then your crazy and you need to watch the rematch to prove how close these fighters are!

I have to agree with thexperience1......

Too many instant rematches. So now what happens if Edgar wins by a close decision? A trilogy? It's B.S. I'd much rather see Bendo against either Pettis, Miller, or Diaz, and THEN maybe another Edgar fight sometime in the future, if they are both top of the heap.

The division is stacked, and now all the others have to wait at least until fall sometime.

I agree, Frankie is a warrior but he just doesn't hit hard enough unless it's a perfect connection like the Gray Maynard punch. He's just too small for that division... ...Mind you I have written him off before...

If it was anyone but Frankie, this would be bullshit.... But Frankie deserves a rematch more then anyone !

Gonna clog up 155 again, but UFC owes it to Edgar, so it is what it is.

I think he does, He gave all the other guys rematch's, a fight with Pettis would be good for fans, but its no title fight, the man wants his belt !

It was a close fight with Bendo and even bendo think Frankie should get a rematch.

Like i said its gonna clog 155 again, but put yourself in Frankies shoes, UFC owes him one more chance... the 145 title fight is gonna be there anyway, so why not try to get a rematch at 155 where there is ALOT more big names, cash and fame !

I am sick of rematch's just like you, but its Frankie and if anyone should ever get a rematch it should be him !

IT IS WHAT IT IS BRO

i love watching frankie fight, and i love watching ben fight. i don't think ben was overly dominate in the victory but if anything beating frankie twice in a row will just solidify his position as the champion. so he still can benefit from these hugely. Just like how frankie benefited from beating penn twice.

then it's on to NATE DIAZ! 209! (or Jim miller, still can't overlook that guy)

they got this shit all wrong, fkn kiddin me...immediate rematch! this summer! it is way too soon for frankie to develop a better game plan against bendo...he should take the loss, learn from it, evolve as a fighter and come back to title picture after proving himself against another top contender...it was too soon for bj when he lost to frankie and now its too soon for frankie cuz we will see the same frankie lose by unanimous decision again and maynard got a rematch cuz of the DRAW NOT UNANIMOUS DECISION. Please DANA WHITE let bendo prove himself by fighting the last person to beat him...let sore loser frankie prove himself against miller/diaz winner..

I know it's a joke and all, but how does the UFC get around this if it happens (especially because the first fight was so close, and if Frankie wins it will most likely be close again).

This is really a hard call to make

because after all Frankie did have to make 2 instant rematches

when he clearly won the first 2 fights with each Maynard and Penn

So sending Frankie all the way to bottom after the lost to Ben

In what it was a Very competitive fight , considering Frankie is a natural Featherweight that even fits better at Bantamweight fighting one of the biggest Lightweights that was really amazing from Frankie

But on the other hand this is the second time they put Pettis on the side when he already had the title fight set.

I guess it will be the winner of Diaz/Miller ( Diaz) vs Pettis

for the No. 1 contender spot to fight the winner of Bendo vs Frankie rematch .

Why? DIaz was outclassed by Condit. Unless of course you class waving your arms about talking smack and get hit on the counter for 5 rounds as winning a fight.

Outrun by Condit is more like it, out classed lmao, keep thinking that.

Classy is avoiding an exchange and pick and running the whole fight. Fight has a different meaning to me and a lot of other people.

By hey, your allowed to be a point fighting fan is thats what your into.

Edgar is known for doing much better the second time, Penn, Maynard so there is a good chance Edgar avoids the damage this time and wins rounds more decisively. I dont think he'll get a finish.

Franky has shown us that he can hang with the best of them at 155, but continually fighting bigger, stronger opposition and sustaining the amount of damage that he does can only shorten the career of one of the best in the sport. Franky could be legendary 145.

honestly, i liked the first fight so much (as well as the last 2 edgar/maynard fights), i could watch these 2 fight for the title again and again.

just like if frankie drops down, him and aldo can just bout for the belt over and over, cause i see each fight being a war.

I agree with this sentiment. It's odd to me that people don't want to see Bendo fight Frankie again... Curious really. It was a great fight, and regardless of who you think won, the rematch will be just as good, if not better.
