BJ Penn calls out Nick Diaz for "coward fence-holding strategy" at UFC 137 (UPDATED)

> Poor 102

Look how much bigger you are in this pic..I thought you were gonna scrap from the beginning homie? What was that coward fence holding strategy to tire out the smaller man? Street fighter my ass! I made you fight like glass jaw poser! I'll be ready for that weak bs next time we fight!" - BJ Penn on Twitter

Penn officially retired after getting battered by Nick Diaz during the mentioned above UFC 137 main event in Las Vegas, Nevada, but now it looks like the multi-time MMA champion is keen to talk his way back to the Octagon. Rumors from BJ Penn's camp suggest that "The Podigy is back", ready to re-claim his spot as one of the top MMA fighters on the planet. It is highly unlikely BJ Penn would get a rematch with Nick Diaz anytime soon; however, a tie-breaker with Jon Fitch is more than a logical option.

Thirty-three year old BJ "The Prodigy" Penn is currently 16-8-2 (2-4-1 at Welterweight) in his MMA career.

UPDATE:

To everyone commenting "no way BJ wrote that", here's Pedro Carrasco (MMA news director of BJPenn.com) talking about BJ Penn being fired-up to return, and basically confirming the tweet:

Underground forums (via BloodyElbow.com)

"Pedro Carrasco - and there is a reason why he posted it, He is fired up because now that the holidays are over and a lot of his post-fight distractions are behind him he has nothing to do but think about things and he is not happy with the way he performed in his last several fights.

I am not here to make excuses for him, but I am pretty sure people, at least with some sense of intelligence, can identify that the BJ that fought Edgar, Fitch and Diaz was not the same Penn that fought the Diego's and Florians of the world

Things changed, but as it sits right now, he is back. That killer mentality and fire is back and it's been brewing for a while now and today's tweet is a result of it just boiling over!

Expect more from Penn to come for sure! "

what was his problem before the fight all the BS like he was scared to

offend Daiz or something went way out of his way to make sure he was clear

on what he meant and none was to offend but praise how great he was...

and now he is a coward and he cheated think he was hoping at the end of the fight Daiz would talk about how great he was but instead made him look out dated and talked about how he didnt do chit.... and when Daiz loses to codit hope he gets rematch cause the way he sounds now is how he sounded when he fought Sanchez and Hughes,... on a mission take

no prisoner like he use to So good luck BJ and hope you never kiss ass again

BJ is my favorite fighter of all time, but Nick Diaz pounded him out fair and square. Jon Fitch would've finished him in the 4th round (if it were a 5 rounder).

I've grown tired of the same old "that wasn't the real BJ" excuses we're all accustomed to.

Please BJ............... as we say in Hawaii.........NO MAKE EXCUSES, JUS SCRAP MY BADA!!!!!!

I agree and he's in my top 3 or 5 aswell. He used to fight like an animal like against Sanchez and Stevenson but theres a reason Sanchez and Stevenson aren't top of the division anymore.

The game has evolved. Frankie Edgar showed the beginning of that and I believe BJ has the tools to adapt I just don't know if he's done it yet.

We heard the same from BJ's manager after the second Frankie fight. "The old animal B.J is back and he's angry" etc. He did come back and knock out Matt Hughes (Who has since been proved to be overcooked with the KO to Kos) but then he draws and gets beat up badly by Diaz. Plus he looked like his heart wasn't in it against Diaz.

I think BJ can make one last run for a title but it's surely his last realistic chance of putting a run together.

But nick beat him str8..and it had nothign to do with size, he was just better, and that's very rare in bjs case. Good game.

calling BJ a pussy is like the most retarted comment I've ever seen on this site. go win the BJJ world championships, UFC lw title and welterweight title THEN MAYBE you can call bj penn a pussy. until then i suggest you watch a MMA fight and get some knowledge before you make silly comments.

WITH THAT BEING SAID... Bj really needs to cut this shit out, he got his ass whooped lol he's one of my favorite fighters but he belongs at lightweight and shouldn't whine about diaz beating him up.

I'm a big fan of BJ but this is unnecessary, if he doesn't want to fight bigger guys than he can just return to lightweight. But I guess he's to lazy to cut weight. Diaz beat him fair and square with punches in the face in my opinion.

Holy shit tits! I'm not sure that I believe BJ Penn actually wrote that, he and Nick seemed cool with each other after the fight. Something must of happened. BJ would be better at 155 unless he wants to muscle up like Alves to compete at 170.

I don't understand why people find that so hard to believe that BJ wrote that. All his life he has been a guy who never backed down from a scrap, loses poorly and is always ready to go again. This is a guy who didn't tap in the Hughes crucifix long after he should have.

Time and time again in combat sports there are examples where the spirit doesn't die when the body says time to quit. In other words, there is no reason to think that when his body was too mature to fight that his personality would have matured along with it.

I think what you mean to say is that this is the guy that comes into the ring every single time with a giant question mark... Is he prepared? Is he "motivated"? Whatever the hell that means...then once he loses he heads to the internet to sh.it talk the guy that out performed him.

So this feels about right and is far from a stretch.

I was more surprised when BJ didn't have anything negative to say when Diaz "fitched" him a little in the opening rounds.

Mike, my concern is that even though he said he KNEW what Frankie Edgar was going to do in the rematch (and he was right - dance around and punch) he had no answer for it.

In a rematch he knows what Diaz will do - we all do now. Having an answer for it is another story.

But it is like you said earlier, even though he has no quit in him, his body being worn and weathered, from the wars he's been in just does not respond as well as it used to. " his spirit doesn't die when his body says it's time to quit." Excellant description of Penn.

What about a fight with Nate? Same outcome as Nick or does Nate lose to BJ?

i wacth mma since 2000, and something that I really give credit for a fighter is his hability during the beggining of the fighty, when conditioning is still not a factor.... and I never saw someone so talent as BJ. He fought bigger and stronger guys at 175, and even so, usually beat this top gus in the first round, when bouth are with full tank....

Was like that with GSP (he hold BJ all first roud......

BJ beat fair and square J Fich in the 1 round,

and beat Dias in the first too.....

he should return to 155 quickly and face guys of his size

Bj Penn is a cry baby... Mr Excuses... Nick Diaz gave that coconut head a beating of a life time... Well here is an excuse for Nick also then.... He wasn't even 100% percent healthy to fight... Nick had a terrible camp, and his mind set was not in the fight... Yet he whooped you're ass... Penn should drop back down to 155, and try to take his anger on Nick little brother...See how it works out for him... Because Nate Diaz is no bodies lunch now a days...

Yes. I remember Diaz saying in an interview a day before the fight that he hoped the fans were not disappointed in his performance; because he was going into the fight looking at it as more of a competition than a fight.

I took that to mean that he would turn it into a BJJ type of deal. And to me that is how it started out by the way the first round looked.

I was really impressed with the Gracie camps response to Penn's tweet....

'BJ Penn has apparently not come to terms with the beating he received at the hands of Nick Diaz. At some point it is up to those around you to protect you from yourself. To take you aside and let you know you are wrong and help save you from your folly. Unfortunately for Penn he is surrounded by 'Yes Men' that are unwilling to do that. The outcome will be predictable, resulting in a fighter that will never push himself to the fullest and will always have excuses for his losses.'

They hit the nail on the head with that, BJ needs to grow up, accept he was outclassed in areas by Diaz and work harder to improve. Not every fight is going to be a stand-up brawl like the Sanchez fight and calling Fitch and Diaz pussies for not just brawling sounds so immature. I'll be very impressed if it was Diaz who wrote this response ;)
