Former multi-divisional champion B.J. Penn, who last seen coming up short against Nick Diaz at UFC 137, discusses his retirement, as well as his plans for the future. Penn insists that his post-fight retirement announcement still holds true, and says that he's enjoying life as a "normal person." Photo: Scott Hirano

B.J. Penn

"I have no plans on fighting anytime soon, so as far as that goes, it still holds true. I just want to enjoy my life, relax, and watch my brand new baby and my daughter. That's definitely part of it, I've been doing it for a long time. I'm having a very good time just living life and being a normal person. For the last ten years of my life it's been a roller-coaster: party, have a good time, get in shape, party, have a good time, get in shape. So, I'm kind of glad that I'm not doing that anymore. I'm just living a normal persons life, and I really enjoy it."

To Anton and Co., I'm kinda glad Lowkick is less prone to banning users than a lot of other mma sites, but when people take to the comments section to do nothing but abuse fighters and add nothing positive to any conversation, they really should be banned.

It's clear to me thats what u'll ever do.

U don't really understand what it's about.BJ deserves the respect comin to him. He's been fighting for ten years now and fought the best.

He's been great for the sport.Hate to see him leave but respect to him

Or for that matter any fighter who kisses his opponents right after choking them out.

Would love to see BJ back in the cage again, but completely understand his wishes to be with his young family. Your kids are only young once.

"have a good time, get in shape, party, have a good time, get in shape." Old school thinking. The "get in shape" thing implies he got out of shape. Maybe a clue as to why BJ's cardio tailed off towards the end of his career?

Didn't like everything thing that came out of BJ's mouth, but always wanted to see him fight. Must be tough to be a star athlete and deal with retirement.

I think BJ loves to compete but isn't so keen on the physical demands of training or the pain and recovery afterwards. He should take some time for himself and his family, you can never get that time back when your kids are young. I would like to see him return to BJJ competition, like Abu Dhabi, instead of a return to the octagon. He and anyone who has ever stepped into the cage, have nothing else to prove.

he didn't like "party, get in shape, party, get in shape, party, get in shape" so now he's living like a normal person "party, kebab, party kebab, party, kebab"
