Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami II possible for UFC: Rio in August

According to reports out of Tatame.com, a Middleweight title clash between division Champion Anderson Silva and perennial contender Yushin Okami is being rumored as part of the UFC's return trip to Brazil this Summer.

According to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, former UFC heavyweight champion and his training partner, Silva will fight Yushin Okami, the last opponent to defeat him (by DQ at Rumble on the Rock 8, in 2006), trying to set a new record of nine straight title defenses in the UFC.  The return of the organization to Brazil will take place at Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena, on August 27.

Okami was expected to get his long awaited title shot after defeating Nate Marquardt in November.  However, those plans were soon sidelined when he learned shortly thereafter that he may instead have to await the outcome of Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre's UFC 129 bout with Jake Shields.  If victorious, UFC President Dana White had stated that St. Pierre, not Okami, would likely be next in line to face Silva. In the time since however, "GSP" has expressed a reluctance to put on the necessary weight to accept the fight, possibly leaving the door open for Silva vs. Okami II.

Okami is the last fighter to claim a victory over "The Spider," who was disqualified due to illegal strikes during their 2006 match-up at Rumble on the Rock 8. In addition to his recent victory over Marquardt, "Thunder" has amassed a record of 10-2 with the promotion (26-5 overall), with victories over Alan Belcher, Evan Tanner, Mark Munoz, and others.

It's good to see the UFC living up to it's promise and giving Okami a title shot, but I don't think it's likely that he'll give Silva any trouble.

Silva deserves a title defense in his home coutntry, esp if they want him to fight GSP in Canada

Even though I see Silva as the favourite in this fight. I definitely see Okami having the skills to beat him. If Yushin can avoid the striking and use his wrestling I could see him grinding Silva out.... that said Silva could KO him at any given moment, so it could get interesting, plus Silva will have the chance to get back the loss from 06.

Idk man...I definitely believe Okami is a good fighter and I think he has the ability to beat every MW out there except Silva, its just a bad match up for Okami...his stand up is decent and his wrestling and clinch game is good but not good enough to trouble Silva imo....I see the fight going as it did the first time where Silva picked him apart and stuffed like 7/8 takedowns only thing different would be the that the KO will be legal

Okami won't be saved by a DQ this time around.

Good. Okami deserves the shot. Whether he wins or not doesn't really matter to me.

Silva by TKO for this one. Okami is just one of those guys who likes to hug and wrestle, lol. No punching power or viciousness in his game!
