The last time MMA fans saw Anderson Silva inside the Octagon he defeated Yushin Okami by TKO in the second round of UFC 134’s main event. Following that event Silva admitted that he had suffered a shoulder injury while training for that fight.  That injury had kept Silva from training since the conclusion of that fight on August 27, 2011.

Silva recently began training again, but it looks as if he has suffered another injury. According to the UFC Middleweight champion, “I’m not sure when I’ll come back because I’m still with a shoulder injury, another injury arose recently on my lower back, so I’m getting treatment.” – for more see Tatame.com

This news may have an impact on whether or not the winner of the upcoming Chael Sonnen vs. Mark Munoz fight will get the opportunity to fight Silva as had been intimated by UFC President Dana White.

If you are saying that about Rumble then why would you give him only 2 fights at MW to get a shot at the title?

anyone else find it odd we never hear the specifics of the injury, so we never get a timeline of Silva's return, I cant recall any other fighter where the injury hasnt been disclosed.

I'm guessing it's because they don't really want to go into their fight with their opponent knowing their potential weak spot, if you have a bad lower back you might have trouble dropping down to stop the TDs. Just a theory though, obviously it could be something else.

People are obviously going to say Silva is ducking, it comes across my mind but I honestly don't believe it.

He's getting into his late thirties, injuries happen.

Thats true. I dont see how fans expect Silva to recover while Sonnen has Silva's spine mounted on his wall

    I kid though.... :)

Everyone take it easy, the Silva v Sonnen fight is going to happen. Silva knows he is going to have to be 100% for what he's about to endure. He knows how the first fight went, but he got roughed up.

I don't think he is preparing an excuse, after he won, he claimed he had sore ribs...again, he won.

I don't recall Silva ever missing a fight.

Silva will be ready for Sonnen/Munoz.

Silva was massaged that entire fight. He forgot what time it was and slapped on a late triangle. Come on now dawg.

Anderson probably won't fight for that much longer just 3 more fights is pretty much what he will have. They should give him Jon Jones,Chael vs Munoz winner, or Dominik Cruz..Jk about the last one.

maybe the lower back injury isnt so serious. he did just resume training again and the lower back pain might have been after doing some compound weight training.

Another non-specific injury for the Spider with another indefinite recovery time. I think he's still saying FU to Dana and the UFC.

But at his age, every month Anderson stays on vacation increases the chances of a loss when he returns to the ring.

How do you know he's ducking ?. It amazes how Henod can turn down a fight whens he's not injured, give an explanation(which doesn't bother) but everyone is cool and understanding. Silva gets ANOTHER injury and theirs some conspiracy, use your common sense, he could have just stuck with the shoulder injury excuse if he was fakng, there would be no need mkae up another. MMA fans are so damn fickle

Why even publicly state that you have a back injury? Its almost like he wants everyone to gently pat him on the back and exclaim how tough he us for fighting through the pain. I respect the hell out of the p4p #1 but he annoys me sometimes...
