Anderson Silva: Chael Sonnen is a gangster, not a fighter

Despite having to endure weeks of Chael's taunts, The Spider has finally had hit back. Speaking directly to UFC.com, saying:
“I’m here because I beat up everybody who got in my way. I beat every champion there’s ever been except one and I’ve stuck my finger in his chest for four years and he wouldn’t fight me. He fought a one-legged Canadian, a math teacher from Ohio and a bunch of guys who weren’t even good enough to hold their spot in the company. His running is done, his 15 minutes of fame are up and I’m gonna bring it to an abrupt halt. Anderson Silva’s hurt a lot of people. A couple of those guys are my friends — and I don’t have a lot of friends. That bothers me a lot. It’s a payback thing, absolutely. Let’s get rid of this guy. Anderson Silva’s really the nuisance, he’s truly the problem, we’ve all had it with him. There’s one guy that wants to fight him and there’s one guy with the skills to beat him.”
Evidently this has finally struck a chord with the Champ, as he was quick to hit back with his thoughts about Sonnen:
“We’ll see. Chael as a fighter is a good politician. He thinks he knows something. He’s talking trash yet again. He’s not disrespecting me, he’s disrespecting every opponent I’ve ever faced.”
“You either want to be a fighter or a gangster. I chose to be a fighter. If I hadn’t, I’d be a policeman, so it would be a big problem. But I chose to be a fighter. Chael doesn’t know what he wants to be yet, he has to decide what he is. I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing and, as always, I’ll have a good fight. I’m going to show my technical superiority, like I always do.”
While this might not be near as much as anything Sonnen has thrown towards the Spider, it shows Chael's tactics of trying to get under his skin may finally be working. Up until now, Silva had remained quiet, refusing to be drawn into a war of words with the number one contender. This seems to be a major part of Sonnen's game plan, as he looks to crack the enigma and get inside his head.
Silva is currently undefeated since joining UFC and holds an unbelievable 10 straight wins, with 7 succesfull title defences. Only time will tell if Chael will force the Spider to crack under pressure, but it will surely be both fighters toughest test to date.
This bout will headline UFC 117 which will be held on August 7, 2010 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, United States.

Very few strikers can compete with Silva. He is too good at it. But a good wrestler can take him to the ground like Kos or Rashad, lay and pray and take a decision.

Edgar had a gameplan and that was hit and run, it's effective because he's smaller at a lighter weight but he's still not a better fighter than bj. Fedor made the mistake he makes a million times and got punished for it, no surprise when you think about it.
Chaels gameplan is to take silva to the place where chael always gets beat...which makes no sense at all. At the same time, he can't stand either because he's nowhere near good enough

Chael can take him down if Hendo could. Anderson's takedown defense is just what you said. He moves so well it's hard to grab him. But when guys to get a hold of him he falls down like a tree. Go watch those fights if you don't believe me. If Chael gets close enough before getting knocked out then he has a chance. That dude is relentless. If his submission defense was better very few people would beat him.

I would like to see Chael move up and get KTFO by Franklin in all honesty. When Franklin fought Silva, Silva was absolutely ruthless. There was no warmup, no wait and see what happens, it was full on clinch and knees till you collapse.
Would love to see Silva get Chael in the clinch and just start kneeing him. And if possible, push him up against the cage and hold him there so he can't fall. KO him standing.
I said it before and I'll say it again. On Sonnen's part this is a well thought out strategy.
IF Silva sits back and fights technically Sonnen will never be fast enough to shoot for the takedown.
If Silva is angry and charges aggressively Sonnen will be able to duck under and go for the double leg takedown.
If Silva sits back and uses his precision striking Sonnen is finished and so Sonnen NEEDS Silva to be an angry charging bull (like Marquart).
The other thing is that Sonnen has changed an uninteresting fight into an interesting fight. While it is true that styles make fights; personalities make them entertaining.

Man... hyping your upcoming fight is one thing, but making it personal with a guy like Silva...I don't know how smart that is for your safety.
Silva is respectfull towards his opponents but he is a very very dangerous fighter. I wouldn't want to lock myself inside a cage with him when he is angry.

It's no secret that Chael has a big mouth and maybe says more than he needs to. But you're an idiot rickjitsu. Patrick Cote gets killed by anyone with a decent ground game. Lasted about a minute against Travis Lutter. Anderson just played with him. And Alan Belcher just messed up Cote standing up and on the ground. So that one legged Canadian hasn't impressed anyone since he got his title shot. I don't have anything against him for being from Canada. But he's got nothing on Sonnen. And he hasn't evolved even half of what Sonnen has since coming to the UFC.
To be fair. At the time, I thought Cote had possibly the best chance at beating silva. Cote has the chin to just take a few shots in the first few rounds. And from what we saw when Silva fought Maia, Silva gets tired from all his monkey dancing. In the last few rounds, Cote would have the power to finish it aswell.
Really I think it will take two parts to finish Silva. The ability to absorb alot of shots in the first few rounds. And then the power to finish it in the latter. I think Chael possibly has the ability to absorb the shots, but all he can do is grind out a decision. I don't see him finishing the job. And Silva should EASILY get the first 3 rounds.

And getting outclassed by Alan Belcher in his last fight just shows the division is growing with too much talent for him. He was a nice guy. He's just never gonna have what it takes to be a champion at that weight. And Chael is a long shot. But he does have a chance cuz at least one of his arts is better than anyone in that weight class. The way he runs through a takedown is better than any middleweight I've seen. And it won't be easy to get his hands on Silva. And then he still has to avoid getting subbed. But come on people. He's got a better chance than Cote ever did. Cotes standup probly isn't even better than Chael's. Silva would make Sonnen's standup look bad but most people can't embarass him there. What about Silva standing in the middle of the ring dancing around Maia shouting stuff at him that Maia would not even repeat? I can't see how cussing out a fighter that is standing in the middle of the octagon with you while hundreds of thousands of people are paying money to see you fight is any better than what Sonnen is doing.

Sonnen is a loud mouth but I don't think Silva can claim he always takes the high road. I for one would love to see Silva get his ass beat. I don't expect it but I would smile for a day or two if it happened.
I hope Silva doesn't lose. If that happens people would bash him worse than Fedor. But i can see a 5 round decision for Sonnen, he's got 2 chances to win this fight. First is the punchers chance, but it's doubtful, because we haven't really seen him do that. Second and most probable way is take Anderson down, Sonnen is a better wrestler by far, and Anderson is not known for his take down defense.
Chael is going to bow to Anderson in the end, ask for forgiveness, and tell him he is a great fighter.
