Anderson Silva believes he owed it to his people to defeat Chael Sonnen in Brazil
Posted on April 27, 2012, 01:07 PM by Mike Drahota
The frenzied discussion of the title fight originally set for UFC 147 continued yesterday as Dana White revealed that he had to spend 75 minutes persuading his champion Anderson Silva to defend the belt outside of Brazil. The fight has now been rescheduled to take place in Las Vegas as the headlining bout at the ultra-stacked UFC 148 card July 7. The longtime champ Silva, however, wanted the chance to have revenge on Chael Sonnen in his home country, whose people feel so disrespected and insulted by Sonnen's constant trash talk.
White's talk with Silva caused a delay to the press conference where Chael Sonnen again had many a choice word to say about Silva and Brazil. Certainly White was aiming to have Silva's request fulfilled, as the proposed location of Stadium Engenhao in Rio de Janeiro could have held up to 80,000 fans for the company's largest event ever. However, as previously reported, a UN conference that same week ultimately put an end those plans. White was concerned about the lack of hotel rooms, something that Las Vegas will have no shortage of come fight week. According to fightersonlymag.com, Silva responded with a quick, forceful comment about Sonnen's disrespectful nature:
“He deserves to taught a lesson here, I owe this to my people"
To which Dana White told him bluntly,
“If there is no way how to make the event in a stadium, it has to be in Las Vegas. I want you go to Las Vegas and perform well, make it a great fight.”
Silva decided to step to the task, putting an end to the conference with the following:
“If it has to be like this, I will beat this guy wherever. He deserves a lesson.”
In the end, White was able to talk down his marquee fighter with promises of huge payday by guaranteeing Silva a portion of the pay-per-view proceeds. Expect the hype and buildup to rival this past weekend's Jon Jones-Rashad Evans grudge match, if not exceed it. What are your thoughts on a fight that may be the most anticipated rematch of all time? Can you think of a bigger one at a previous UFC? Will Sonnen's wrestling come through in the clutch for him again, or will Silva destroy his arch-nemesis?

All of the debate about Silva's clowning and Chael's comments and all the rest of it aside....it's going to be an exciting fight.
According to Tatame.com, UFC 147 will take place in Brazil. Not the biggest Silva Fan, but I still wish he would teach Chael a lesson in humility and respect of other countries and their people...He is a Republic racist, plain and simple...Should be a great fight as both contender and champ will need more than a win, they want revenge......
I love Chael's trash talk ,but I want Silva to win.
But Actually Chael is right on a point : its true that Silva should have responded and insulted CHael as well , cause this is the culture of brazil to accept challenges and respond to people that are talking shit.
And Silva was like a girl calling Dana to complaint abt Chael's behaviour.
Look, even though Russia and America have very different politics, Chael never talked bad about Russia, because we kick ass, and he knows that if he says shit abt russia, Fedor or even some other fighter will find a way to kick his ass or even kill him.
But Silva did not man up and didnt do anything to respond to Chael.
How is bashing Brazilians being racist? Brazilian is not a race.
It is hard to believe that Dana had to spend 75minute convincing Silva that they could not have the fight in Brazil.
That is BS that he even has to explain or convince anything to an employee...
Its also BS that Silva is saying he owes it to Brazil to teach Chael a lesson. Who is he kidding, maybe smoking dope. It is literally impossible for anyone to claim Silva is going to convincly beat Chael.
The truth is that Chael literally bet Silva up for 98% percent of their last fight. No one claim make any claims against that unless you take the last performance into consideration....
Firstly i am pretty sure that Dana would have to convince Silva to fight outside of Brazil, there would have been a contract stating a time and venue, if this contract is then breeched or the terms and conditions broken then Silva is able to do what he will to a certain degree, refuse the fight, ask for a higher pay day, etc etc. The ball would have been in SIlvas court, he knew that its going to be the biggest fight of the year generating alot of interest and of course money for Dana, so Dana was probably convincing him for a long time promising money that no1 has had in the UFC.
Secondly, there where several factors taken into the last fight they had, chael was roided up off his face, rumours about silvas ribs, however which ever way u look at it silva won the fight. The pressure was more on Silva to perform in the last fight as no1 gave sonnen a chance in hell, now the pressure is on him, he has come so close and he has to perform otherwise its gonna be seen as a fluke. Regarding your last comment about you cant take sonnens last performance into consideration....well i always believe that your only as good as your last performance. So ye the last performance against Bisping was huge for Silvas confidence, and probably a dent in Sonnens confidence.
Yeah it is, and they are beatin the sh*t outta the human race in MMA.
Rather than 14 year old boys "weaking" comments - DEFEND your point. How is Brazilian a race? Chael at worst (if you believe his sense of humor) is bigoted. Yet, who ISN'T bigoted? We all dislike someone - therefore we are all bigoted. As for racism - that means that you think your entire race is better than another. Well, there are a lot of people who are bias for their race, let's face it.
History has shown races to be different but also that different races can adapt and catch up to other races. Take the white race for example. It is responsible for the majority of technology and medicine that benefits mankind of all races but also that other races can catch up and in some cases surpass previous ones.
PS: The racist card is played far too often these days and is an insult to intelligence.
I hope Silva teaches that gob s.h.i.t.e a lesson but fear ring rust will affect his performance !!!
And the excuses begin...
Silva beat him once ...will beat him again then hopefully the racist Sonnen will vanish
never knew you were in the cage
yes, hopefully exciting. hopefully not 5 rounds of lay n pray. i dont want sonnen to win, but for **** sake if he does, do it convincingly. we dont need another lay n pray hero.
What the **** are you talking about?! Sonnen is always working on the ground like an animal... When was the last time Sonnen had a boring fight? Tell me please...
He never was and never will be a lay n pray fighter!
Ugh...that brings up a scarinteresting thought. If Sonnen wins.... you know there will be a Silva v Sonnen III, IN BRAZIL
let me re-phrase that...do some damage. actually put a mark on him. submit him. ko, tko, stoppage by cut...anything other than hopping around controlling him, and throwing rabbit punches that are effective only in keeping the fight from being stood back up because he is remaining active. commit to something that is akin to a finish attempt.
he's boring though ...he belongs in pro wrestling his trash talk is more suited to childrens programmes.
If you watched the fight Silva had a pretty big mouse on his left eye. Not sure if Silva can bleed but he definitely was bruised up. His complexion makes it tough to see though
Please go and rewatch Sonnen - Silva I as he hit Silva with many shots. It isn't Sonnen's fault that Silva is a cyborg. he got put on his ass form punches by Sonnen several times in that fight and Sonnen smashed him with some great shots from top position. Go and watch Silva's head bouncing off the canvas and it becomes apparent that Silva really is a cyborg.
he bleeds Cristal
I like how DLS talked about the mouse (that I didn't see) instead of addressing Chael not committing to anything that could finish the fight.
yea, i didnt see the mouse. congrats to chael, i guess, lol. but seriously, his face was more messed up than andersons. oh well, nuff talk, this shit finally goes down in a few months. ready 4 it.
Chaeletta punches like a girl, that's why.
Watch Like Water. The camera gets close up, and also when hes walking back to the locker room you can tell his eye is derped
chael IS a girl who is trying to be a man!!!!
im NOT kidding!!!
thats why he is so over ****y and overdoses testosterone and shit...
toxic, that wasnt even funny, think before you type something next time... not kidding!!!
are you chaels mom hunter?
yeah thats it. i thought i told you to think before you start typing.
sure sounds like it...
I think that I would be very very worried about fighting Anderson Silva with a grudge.
If Anderson was not hurt...Chael has his number. If Anderson was injured and Chael comes at him the same way it will be a devastating stoppage.
I suspect that if Silva has a chance to finish early, he will just back off and let Sonnen get back up so he can beat him some more. He will wait till the later rounds to KO him. Chael had better be ready for the nastiest Silva we've ever seen.
i do not think Silva will risk letting Chael back into the fight after Sonnen was able to control him like he did using his wrestling... whoever the **** sharped this, is a straight up nuthugging retard. i mean how stupid can you get?
The best thing that can happen in this fight is for a decisive victory that sends one of them into retirement.
I'm not sure if I can stomach listening to 12 months of hype and soap opera for a trilogy
This has become the biggest circus...
Only Silva knows for sure if Chael dominated a healthy Anderson Silva.
The sharps probably reflect peoples desire to see his big mouth get smashed as many times as possible.
i understand that, but to say Silva will "sandbag" this fight and not finish, its just ridiculous
I have read that his rib injury was sustained during the fight with Sonnen not prior to it but who knows. Silva did say though that he wanted to prove a point about Sonnen's insult about Jitz so maybe wanted to sub sonnen on the ground. Who knows. Good thing is we'll find out in the rematch just how much was Silva's injury/point making and Sonnen's TRT as there'll be no excuses this time around. If Sonnen can close the gap to Silva I expect another ground and pound nightmare for Silva.
watching his documentary "like water" he was talking about it all week before the fight.
Underpaid....
I'm sure they'll settle for murder in Vegas, I know I will.
No, Sonnen is Republican, he will not get away with murder. the Republicans will eat him alive.
dana promised silva the fight in brazil just to get him to sign for the fight. it was never ment to be in brazil from the beginning....
Even Silva agreed to fight Sonnen in Las Vegas, he doesn't even want to see something terrible happen to Sonnen outside of what he wants to do to him in the ring.
I predict another positive test from Chael. Way to keep sociopathic assholes in the spotlight guys. It's so good for the sport.
to bad it couldnt be at cowboy stadium its got 80'000 seats plust what u could fit on the feild got the two 65 yard hd tvs the ones on the side views are 20 yards wide it would be great
