Anderson Silva: I've injured my knee, but Chael Sonnen fight is still on

According to TATAME.com, reigning UFC Middleweight champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva injured his knee in training. But luckily for Mixed Martial Arts fans around the world, it looks like the injury is unlikely to affect the date of Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen rematch:

"UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva was honored by Brazilian Taekwondo Confederation this Monday, but the day wasn’t all about good news. The fighter revealed to the press that he got his knee injured on a training session, and that he’s getting tested today to see how serious it is. Despite that, the champion was not limping during the ceremony, and seemed optimistic about the recovery."

Earlier today, "The Spider" tweeted a picture from his training camp, once again assuring the fans that he will be fight-fit for July 7th. Silva's injury talk could be a part of psychological warfare against Chael Sonnen, who's been waiting nearly two years for an opportunity to avenge his loss at UFC 117.

It is also clear that Anderson Silva is not getting any younger. The Brazilian phenom turned 37 back in April, and could well-be towards the end of his illustrious Mixed Martial Arts career.

Google Translate: People, my knee is doing very well thank you! , Stay calm day on July 7 will be doing my job. osss

Silva douche move. He did this so he can say he won even injured. If he loses he can say thats why he lost. A 2 purpose excuse. Typical Silva douchery.

Its tempting to think otherwise but I don't think Anderson is dishonest. It sounds like he is building a case for when he loses because he know Sonnen is his biggest risk but I think this he is legit. The thing is why bother saying it. It generates negative discussion AND now Sonnen is going to double right through the knees.

    He's nervous.

Yeh thats what i don't understand, why tell a wrestler you have a bad knee, they gonna be going for the leg all night long....its like telling a boxer you have a bad rib, they just gonna work the body.

Ya I'm sure he really is hurt but fighters are hurt before fights all the time and you don't hear them talking (or whining if you'd like). I love Silva but his reputation for complaining/making excuses certainly isn't undeserved. It'll be interesting to see if we hear about this after the fight, that's when we'll find out if he's really trying to make an excuse or just being unnecessarily honest.

    Or

maybe he wants to give Sonnen false injury so Sonnen will be more reckless with takedowns due to confidence and Silva throws a timed knee.

    Silva could be trolling

cuz he wants sonnen to go for the takedown. he's brainstorming a gameplan just for when the double comes. Hes baiting Chael. Tell a wrestler ur knee his hurt.... hes coming for the takedown. Well timed knee vs double leg takedown = KOTN. So just as you can say hes spinning it as an excuse to lose, it could also be a move in the mental battlefield.

I have a feeling Chaels arrogance will allow Silva to play with this one. ALTHOUGH that being said, if the injury is legit, then I have no idea why Silva would come public with it.

He may not be dishonest, however, I always thought that you keep any injuries hidden from your opponents. There has to be an ulterior motive to such a disclosure.

Are we dealing with a bruised knee or a torn ACL ?

I think Anderson may have injured his knee from all the guys in his camp running up to him and hugging him. There must have been a clash of knees.

I've never seen so much man love for this guy after watching TUF Brazil.

I agree though he is appearing nervous. It would be hard to forget 24 minutes of punches to your head and body.

    2) There is no way on Gods earth anyone can trin for 6-12months and develope great wrestling techniques or takedown defense. There is nothing Silva can train for to take advantage of Chael. Silva should be nervous. Chael is one tuff dude.

We'll never know if Anderson would be the last one standing in a real fight either with opponents. There are know head butts, biting, groin shots, or ability to use anything as a weapon around you. MMA is a sport competed in a controlled environment, and GSP has defeated every man he's ever faced.

But we do know GSP has no killer instinct and that counts for a lot out there. We also know Anderson is head and shoulders above GSP in skill and that wrestling is about the least effective ability in a knife fight or any other street fight where anything goes and so Anderson again will have a major advantage having elite striking.

Weird thing to say 6 weeks before a fight . It's either not that serious, so why mention it, or it is a problem, so why mention it?

Sonnen fans will think this is a pre-fight excuse, Silva fans will hope it's just some good old fashion minds games.

In a recent interview, Silva admitted that first Sonnen fight was difficult, which I don't recall him saying before.

Seems pretty obvious a loss for Silva is high on your demand list. He could get it yes and everyone could but many don't feel it is right. It takes away from a fighters achievements in my opinion as it is not a true showing of a mans performance which is important to me. Just like most would cry foul if two cars raced and one had a supercharger bolted to the same cubic inch of block. One is NATURAL aspiration and the other is FORCED aspiration.

...and that's an insane problem MMA has. No fighter should just be able to get TRT. It's supposed to be a rare need for men with low testosterone levels (which by the numbers aren't that high to begin with). The fact that Testosterone can now be prescribed for things out side of that is deplorable at best.

If Anderson has legitimate injuries, he should not just be allowed to use Testosterone. It's not an end all be all medication.

Yea, there's a reason to hate on a practice that's poorly regulated and used by many to cheat a system that holds no accountability for the competitors using it. There's a reason TRT use isn't allowed in any of the major sports in the U.S. or international competitions like the Olympics.

I hate Dan Henderson for an entirely different reason.

Same could be said, for your thoughts on a Silva win against Chael.

The fact is Anderson is making a big excuse about an injury way before a fight with a guy, who dominated him for over 2 minutes the last time they fought. He could very easily still win since he is rightfully referred to as the best MMA fighter to come around thus far. However, this action is puzzling to say the least.

ye an intersetin move by silva..if his knee was injured i would imagine dat he would rather keep it quiet so as chael doesnt target it.. i know chael doesn throw knee bucklin leg kicks but he sur as hell can shoot the double leg better dan any mw in d ufc nd knowin dat silvas knee is hurt id imagine that he would attack the legs from underhooks on d cage whether double or single..if i was anderson id much rather hav chael not know about my injury and fight than hav him know and fight with an excuse if i lose..it could also b a strategy for d champ who knows
