Alistair Overeem passes drug test; UFC 141 fight with Brock Lesnar still onPosted on December 20, 2011, 02:28 PM by Joey Santosus
All systems are a go for the UFC 141 Heavyweight showdown between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem.
Doubts emerged surrounding the bout after Overeem failed to meet the requirements of his Nevada State Athletic Commission-mandated drug test. However, UFC President Dana White has today confirmed via Twitter that the Dutchman has, in fact, passed and is now cleared to fight.
"Overeem is ready to go!!! Lesnar vs Overeem is on!," White tweeted.
The former Strikeforce Champion has been granted a "conditional license" to compete in the state of Nevada and will also be required to undergo additional testing before and after the December 30th bout.
Though it's not the first time that Overeem has come under suspicion for using performance enhancing substances, he remains optimistic that the series of samples he will submit over the next year may silence such rumors.
"I am focused on my career, and I'm focused on training," Overeem told HDNet earlier this week. "Of course, there are these rumors going. All this testing, if I look on the bright side, you are taking the critics' word away. Because, I will be the most tested fighter - ever. So, I can use that argument in my favor."
The Heavyweight clash, which will mark Overeem's octagon debut, will serve as headliner for the UFC 141 card, set to take place December 30th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The match-up's winner will emerge has the division's number-one contender and will later face current Champion Junior dos Santos.
