Former Strikeforce Champion and top Heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem, who will square off with Brock Lesnar in his UFC 141 octagon debut, discusses his opponent, as well as his expectations for the bout. Overeem says the fight is "pretty straightforward," and predicts he'll finish Lesnar via first-round knockout.

Alistair Overeem

"It's going to be a very exciting fight. I think all of the fans in the world are watching out for this fight. Brock's coming off of a loss and an injury, and myself, I'm coming off of an injury and a victory against Werdum. ... I think it's going to be a very interesting match-up. You've got the best, strongest wrestling guy out there versus the strongest, best striker. I think it's pretty straightforward what he's going to do, and I think it's pretty straight forward what I'm going to do. It's going to be about who is better at forcing their game on the other. ... It's not going to go to the second round. I'm going to knock him out in the first round."

I see overeem winning this one in all areas he could KO brook standing and he could submit him if it goes to the ground. But man if Brock beats overeem that's gunna be insane

Overeem will probably get knockout if his TDD is successful against Brock or his ground game is on point that night and unfortunately it might be the last time we see Brock fight in the Octagon. Especially if its a devastating KO.

If that happens and he has to reassess, what will he have to offer against the current champ JDS or Overeem if he becomes champ.

Brock is in the UFC for a belt. He probably expects nothin less from himself.

im not 100% sure but i thought that from ufc 138 every main event was going to be 5 rounds. if thats the case then i dont see this going the distance at all because both guys know that 5 rounds is going to be hard for them with their muscle size

I see Brock rushing Reem pretty early in the fight, not as much as in the Velasquez fight cuz he said in a recent interview that he rushed a little too much. And i see Reem being able to stuff the takedown somehow and knock out Brock in the 1rst.

Then we can see Overeem vs JDS which would be SPECTACULAR, K1 world class level striking vs purely MMA adapted striking, both with a huge size and height.

    Can't wait

You took the words outta my mouth. I don't think even IF brock can take him down, that he can holdem there. Reem will just get up and out strike him.

And reem vs jds will be soooo epic

I hope Lesnar wins though because we will probably see two better heavyweight fights in JDS vs. Lesnar and Velasquez vs. Overeem.

Rather than just one good heavyweight fight in JDS vs. Overeem.

Good damn I was Carwin was good to go; so he could sort some of this mess out, lol.

I like Overeem but his ****iness over confident and I personal think Lesnar learn a big lesson from previous fight and should trained like the way it should be to do or die seem likely he'll shock everyone

Even if Brock got Overeem done, you all are thinking Overeem is just going to lay there. The dude is strong, I'd put any money that he is stronger than Brock and would simply push him off like Valasquez did.

    I would go with Overeem.

Honestly, I did not see Brock's superior wrestling skills against Couture, Carwin and Cain, although, Brock was bigger and havier. Mir wanted to stay down and use his BJJ. The only takedown I saw, when Carwin gased out.

Overeem is powerful enough and has a good TDD to keep it standing. Even if Brock takes him down, it would be very hard to keep Overeem on the ground. Brock would not have any size advantage either. Plus, Overeem is way more experienced.

The Reem has very good takedown defense and I don't see Brock taking him down very easily. I pretty much see it as Brock trying to take Overeem down but fails to and has to stand with him and get's KO'd.

I've always been a fan of Overeem but lately he seems very disinterested when being interviewed. Doesn't have much to say. Although it's certainly true about his outlook on this fight. They both know what each other wants to or is going to do. I reckon the one with the surprise up their sleeve will take this!

Imagine Overeem shooting for Lesnar & taking an ugly ground & pound win? Imagine Lesnar lunging at Overeem & throwing bombs? It's not unthinkable!

Two things are clear in my head though. Overeem does not have Lesnars conditioning in my opinion therefore he needs to keep his distance, stay standing & finish it ASAP.

Lesnars striking defense is not the best & he seems to hate being hit in the face & always recoils. Both have the same reach & I reckon Overeem will easily pick off Lesnar in the standup. He needs to avoid the clinch with Overeem as his Muay Thai knees will be worse than Lesnar has ever felt & same goes for trying to hold him against the fence. Lesnar is not quiet as big as he used to be (about 20lbs) I'd say there'll be not much more that 10lbs between them so size won't be his main advantage like previous fights.

Anyway, it'll be a very entertaining either way & I'm seriously looking forward to it :)

Sorry for the long mail, I just had an opinion :)

What about this string didn't we not already know. Reem is a fighter, Brock is a marketing tool. Everyone thinks they are a fighter until they get hit in the mouth. When that happens to lesnar, he folds faster than a wet dixie cup.

I'm gonna pick Brock by TKO. He shoots a few takedowns making Reem hesitant like against Werdum, Brock catches him sweet with an uppercut and finishes with TKO.

Only kidding, Reem by murder, but he cannot be static like he did against Werdum, asking for trouble against someone with power in their hands.
