Alistair Overeem: Wait until you see what I'm going to do to Brock Lesnar

Former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem, who will face Brock Lesnar in his UFC 141 octagon debut, discusses his opponent, and shares his prediction for the bout. Overeem acknowledges Lesnar's strength and wrestling ability, but insists that it will take no more than two-rounds to dispatch of him.

Alistair Overeem

"Brock is, first of all, a tremendous athlete. He's a very strong guy. He has strong wrestling, excellent wrestling, excellent takedowns. His weaknesses are my strengths. Brock doesn't like to get hit, and that's exactly what I'm going to do to him. I'm going to hit him, and I'm going to hit him as hard as I can. And, I'm pretty good at it. If you guys think that Cain Velasquez hits hard, wait until you see what I'm going to do to him. I'm going to beat Brock up, and it's going to take me no more than two rounds to do that."

that reminded me of the time Anderson KOd that guy from his back with an upkick, but I dont think Reem is near that flexible.

Yeah, that's one of Silva's loses. Okami I think. Anyway, last year I asked the lowkickers if anyone has ever KO'd anyone from their back with a punch and someone came up with an answer (I don't remember) but indeed I went and watch the fight and it has been done.

If I was (still) a MMA'ist I would train that move. When a guy throws himself into the guard with a big punch I would train to turn into an upward power punch and put him out! Of course, if I was that good why not just train to not get put on my back. Duh.

He has said consistently that he thinks he can end the fight in one round but that it will take no more than two. This is not a flip flop, back peddle or contradiction of any kind. Nice try though.

    Your are right about that....

Alister should of kicked the crap out of Werdum but he couldnt...

Instead he pretty much gased out...and they both walked out of the ring...pussy decision which should never happend unless its a real slug fest like JDS vs Nelson.....

Some guys are disrespectful. Other guys are just talking about the fight as they see their plans going. Still others are hyping the fight. I don't find Reem's comments outside of reasonable. I find him surprisingly articulate.

Cain's got great wrestling and his striking is good, but Overeem owns every MMA HW title around, save UFC, that includes the K-1 championship title (the most elite of kickboxing titles). That makes him the most highly decorated striker at HW. Period. Overeem is also an Abu Dahbi champion grappler, so I would say that so far the reem is the more accomplished, but I would like to see that fight.

    K-1 is NOT MMA.....

Abu Dahbi grappler doesnt mean all that...

You dont see some of these why arent some of the new upcoming Gracies champions in UFC or Strikeforce? Because it takes alot more than Grappling.....

Unless both fighters are going to slug it out standing....99% of fights will end up on the ground...Thats why some of todays champions are from a pedegree of wrestling....

Cain is College Decorated Wrestling Champion.....

mma striking is a different story. also overeem got knocked out of the 2009 k1 gp by badr hari (who didn't compete the last time...) within 3 minutes of the first round. and overeem is a LOT bigger. he didn't fight a lot of really big names, got ko'ed by liddell, big nog AND shogun before he started eating horses turning to the incredible hulk. dana white is right, he didn't fight any of the top ten guys. we'll see how he does.

if he gets past brock, what I doubt...he will imo most likely get DESTROYED by dos santos.

You say K-1 is not MMA? College wrestling is not MMA. The longest reigning champ in the UFC is a striker with good BJJ, that is Anderson Silva...and now JDS, another striker with good BJJ has taken the HW belt from Cain.

Reem is bigger than Brock, has very good BJJ and is a champion striker at the highest level. Reem FTW

I think that the top strikers of mma would have also done VERY well in K1.

his K1 gp win isn't the most impressive one either. a decision against saki and a ko. vs 40+ year old peter aerts...for instance he never faught semmy schilt, lost to badr hari (in their 2nd fight) and remy bonjaski beat him up pretty good as well.

Cain is on a lower level than Overeem as far as MMA is concerned. He is without a doubt the best striker that Brock has faced by far.

in all seriousnees, i hope he stops brock. they are both ****y assholes, but i would really like to see brock sent back to the wwe with his tail between his leg, and although i will never watch the wwe, it would be intersting to see or hear how he incorporates his stint in the ufc to his act there, if its allowed at all...will he act like a bad ass, or have to admit defeat in a real fight in front of all his "fans"

Honestly i'm surprised people give Brock a chance. People talk about Brock like he's some sort of heavyweight version of GSP. His wrestling is not that amazingly adapted to MMA i think. He took Heath Herring down ok... nothing incredible really. He took Mir down, but we all know Mir didn't mind being on his back, in fact he wanted to be on his back. He took a completely exhausted Shane Carwin down. But He couldn't keep Velasquez down for more than a spit second. With the size and strength that Overeem has, he will stuff those early takedowns and after 3 takedown attempts he will get destroyed on the feet.

My pick is an obvious TKO in the first from Overeem. It's crazy how people were mocking Brock after his humiliating loss to Velasquez and were saying that he didn't belong in MMA and now all of a sudden they believe in him like it never happened. It's crazy how all the hype around Brock is getting to people so fast.

Blows my mind too. Dana made Brock the superstar he is. He gave him a title fight far too early against a dude who was done 6 years ago. Yes, he's big, yada, yada. Tim Sylvia was big, Struve IS the biggest, give that kid some more years to mature and he'll be a force.

Brock is a product of over hyping and where the bully was big enough to hold the playground. But a new kid is in town, a guy bigger and stronger, who isn't a bully, but a slayer of bullies. Prepare to get yours Lesnar.

    Overeem is the next champ.

i can see it going the distance, reem will be gunshy always thinking about the shots, wont be throwing any kicks, he certainly doesn't have the explosiveness or cardio of velasquez so if taken down i see him staying there for a while, but theres only like a 1% chance of brock trying to pull off another sub

Brock 's camp sucks...His coaches, trainers, and sparring partners won't help Brock at all... Brock trains hard, and mostly just with weights.. His cardio is pathetic when it's been pushed... Been a one trick pony is what Brock is...+ his scared of getting hit on the face.. It's also pathetic for the Brocky fans to just be praying for a Brock's take-down... Redneck style.. Yet Demolition Man is a true MMA fighter... Will fight Brock wherever the fight goes... This is what MMA is all about people. So I say it's a very easy win for Demolition Man.. It is, what it is... You can can like it, or you can weak it...

secondly: Why does everyone think Brock will go for the instant take down? I know his ground game is on but i gotta think Brock can prolly hit like a truck too... I'm going out on limb here but i think Brock will pin Reem to the cage and hurt him.take him down and finish him.

It could very well end that way, or it could be the other way around and Overeem could land a hard shot sending Brock reeling into the cage, followed by finishing Brock on the mat against the cage with a storm of punches.

It could go either way, and we won't know till we see it all go down this weekend! CAN"T WAIT!!!

I just wanna see Reem vs JDS,hype would be someone not proven. He put away Couture Beat Mir and came back from a beating he lost, but to a superior fighter you can't use the word hype with Brock hes fought and beaten some of the best and is one of the best HW's in the world..I say its an even fight Brock gets him on the ground in side control its over if Reem gets him in the clinch or gets a clean shot Brock will go to bed.
