Alan Belcher recounts his impressive victory over Rousimar Palhares, asks for title shot
Posted on May 6, 2012, 08:29 PM by Mike DrahotaAlan Belcher explains the tactics he used to best Rousimar Palhares at UFC on Fox 3 last night, stating that he wanted to control the distance from his dangerous opponent. While it looked like he may be put into one of Palhares's well-known leglocks, Belcher in fact almost reversed the attempts into a Twister submission of his own, and ultimately gained the stoppage via strikes. The win was no doubt impressive, where does it place Alan Belcher in the UFC Middleweight division after four wins in a row? Can he beat the top-level Middleweights, and does he deserve a shot at the crown?

Belcher was very impressive. I'm not convinced that time will show Palhares to be a top five contender and so Belcher needs to move up the ladder. Who should be next for him? Hmm....
Munoz or Bisping then a title shot if he beats either of those 2
@David Munoz is matched with Weidman and Bisping with Boetsh, do you mean if they win their fights or just try to match them up somehow?
After they win there fights
I agree with David Saucier
There's a lot of guys at the top of the 185 div. so lucky no real lack of opponents to put him against.
If i was Joe Silva, I'd put him either against Bisping Boetsch winner, Stann/Lombard winner or Vitor (if he wins). Any of those opponents vs. Belcher for title shot.
I'd say give him the winner of Belfort and Wandy.
That was some of the best and most exciting submission defense I have ever seen!
I'll admit that in this fight I basically counted out Belcher's blackbelt but he is definitely a legit BJJ blackbelt.
He proved it by out grappling one of the best submission artists in MMA and even got close to catching Palhares in a Twister.
I don't think I'll be worried about Belcher getting submitted at 185 anytime soon if he stopped Palhares fromt ripping his leg off, in that fashion.
Belcher could really fight anyone next, Vitor Belfort, Rich Franklin, Cung Lee, Chris Leben, Mark Munoz, Chael Sonnen, or even Brian stann.
Most of those names however have fights set up. Maybe a fight against Leben on his return from suspension.
The list is huge. I would be surprised if he gets a title shot before at least another two fights. The division is too stacked.
Having said that...Belcher has won his last four straight with 2 KO finishes and two submission wins....He definetly can finish fights.
Cung Le is no longer committed to MMA he was chubby as anything on his UFC debut which is a pity as he was once an excellent fighter but gassed badly against Wandy. Belfort and Franklin are also past their sell by date. leben is way overrated and is little more than a scrapper not a MMA fighter. Of the names you mentioned I would say Munoz would be a decent match up.
Pahlares is so one dimensional my 3D TV wouldnt even play his fights.
Hes over rated. Look at who Belcher has beat...Jason MacDonald...Wilson Gouveia...Cote...Denis Kang...lost to Akiyama, though that was in 09. Im not sure he deserves a title shot quite yet.
But if his win over Palhares puts your bags on his hype train....then I guess "All Aboard"
I've always liked Belcher. He comes to fight and doesn't seem to be intimidated by any of the top names. I've seen him win fights he was suppose to lose on more occasion than I care to count. I like his style, attitude, and the way he carries himself outside the cage. The kid is a class act.
the mw division is getting very interesting with belcher's win and the signing of lombard. If munoz and lombard win their fight then i predict munoz will get his shot first. If that happens then belcher should get lombard or stann....bisping/boetsch should fight vitor if he wins which is a huge favorite over the axe murderer....just my opinion.

E- The best part is somehow they're all given different scores.
Different judges see the fight in different ways.
I think he's trying to catch up to you in the comment counter thing. He's cheating. You mean thats not how you do it! Just kidding Ent.
Belcher did indeed prove his black belt status in that fight and obviously looked great but like I said in a different thread I really felt he exposed Palhares as a very one dimensional fighter as well so I'd say he didn't even beat a top10 guy in Palhares hard to give him a titleshot for it.
Titleshot are you kidding me? Yes he impressed me in this one, but lets keep it real, he is about at least 2 fights away from a title shot.
me thinks he is ready
Belcher was ready for a title shot before his last loss. This should be his second shot at a title. But he probably won't see an opportunity for another couple of years ; if at all.
I don't know why, but this kid just seems to get lost in the mix and forgotten about when it comes to title shots.
When you get to the top 5, the UFC does not schedule elimination bouts...but rather, lines up contenders for the champ. The UFC always wants at least two contenders in the pipeline to fight the champ.
I thought Belcher beat Akiyama in a close fight--which makes him 7 wins in a row by my reckoning.
If this was a normal division, I might buy some of the arguments for next contenders--but this is the division ruled by Anderson Silva. I want to see the contender being the one with the style and ability most likely to defeat Silva.
Fans have to ask--if Chael loses, who in the top 5 of the MW division would give Anderson the hardest time.
