In a week that has already seen Phil Baroni and Thiago Silva pull olf their respective bouts, UFC can add another casualty to that list, in Alan Belcher. The Arkansas native has pulled out of his Ultimate Fight Night 22 bout against Damien Maia, due to having to undergo emergency surgery in his right eye.

Speaking via Twitter, Belcher said:

“While I was in brazil I started losing my vision in my right eye. I saw a dr that told me to go back to us immediately. My friend/surgeon from biloxi got me an emergency surgery scheduled in alabama now just trying to recover. No contact for 6 weeks. Sorry to my trainers. Sorry to ufc & demian Maia, I know he has been training specifically for me. Sorry to my fans as well. As long as I get released from dr I will try to make ufn 22 to see my fans and watch the fights.”

Belcher was last seen in action against Patrick Coté. He won the bout following a slam, and TKO'd his way to victory. Overall, Belcher is 16-6, and 7-4 inside the Octagon. He holds notable wins over Denis Kang and Jorge Santiago. As of yet, no opponent has been announced to replace him in the September 15th bout against Maia.

Belfort needs to completely recover and not rush back. He needs to either get healthy or hang it up. He is one of the best in the business, but if he doesn't come back fully recovered and ends up getting injured again, I don't imagine there are going to be a lot of promotions wanting to pay what he is worth. You can have all the star power in the world and be one of the most skilled fighters in the game, but if u cannot perform then it doesn't do anyone a bit of good.

That's a great idea. He needs a good fight at 185. I don't think Dana will let him fight though because he doesn't want Belfort to have a chance of losing or getting injured.

No Grove doesnt hold enough weight right now but I know they're gonna catch hell trying to find a good replacement at such short notice. Why not Okami, Bisping, Cote or even Creduer?
