As far as we've seen he's not doing anything on wrestling or take down defense at least. The last "striker vs. wrestler" fight that I can remember was my boy Koscheck vs. Daley and Koscheck OWNED him. Not OWNED as in KTFO, but owned as in - he couldn't do SHIT off his back and it doesn't matter how good Daley's boxing technique is, doesn't matter how many fights or KO's he had. This isn't a boxing match FFS and if you can't handle a wrestler, MMA is the wrong sport for you. That's what Toney doesn't understand. Maybe someone should have shown him the Kos vs. Daley fight.
That said, win or lose, Toney could do his own stand-up comedy show, he'd OWN Rogan and don't get me wrong, Rogan is a solid stand-up comedian, but Tony's just too damn funny haha just the way he talks.
his camp aren't stupid though, all they show is a bit of light cardio, so no one can get a baring on what his skill level is in any department grappling, or submission wise.
he may come across as a boxer hit FAR too many times, but he ain't stupid enough to go into this fight thinking his hands are gonna be enough, and if he is, we all get to see a trash talking boxer get his face mashed into the ground by the natural haha
Toney may talk like he was raised in the ghetto... because he was... but he is still a genius with the stand-up. Randy could very easily get knocked out in this fight. Randy better get it to the ground *quickly*.
He's absolutely a great boxer, but I still can't understand much of what he's saying. He has a great chance to catch Couture, but only for a short time at the beginning of each round, and then we get to see what his ground game is, if anything. If he makes it to round 2 he will have another half minute or so to try to knock out Couture, but that's about it.
If you haven't heard about James Toney you have not followed boxing. He has for example beaten Holyfield 2003. But Toneys prime was in the 1990s, when he was considered one of the greatest boxers pound for pound.

All these boxers who compare MMA striking to boxing and say that boxers are superior strikers obviously dont know what they are talking about. There are so many variables to consider in MMA that everything changes in the striking aspect. As opposed to a sport limited to standing toe to toe. "James" youre lucky you can fight because your speech impediment is horrible. You are borderline retarded.
Look at how many fights he has been in... in the ring anyway. God only know how many head shots he has taken in his time. There is a lot of slurred speech to go around in the boxing community with vets like Toney. Joe Fraser, Holyfield, the list goes on. The human brain can only take so much abuse being rocked inside the skull before it starts to malfunction.
Tell you what, no matter how much he isn't training or is, I'm excited to watch this fight! Toney is a natural fighter who has perfected his skills in boxing. Randy's tire mauling workout with Lesnar before the Carwin fight looked better than Toney's. Looked like a bunch of boxing coaches doing nothing. Can't wait for Toney to shut up!
