7 Quick Conclusions to UFC 129

UFC 129 Made History by not only selling out 55,000 tickets seats but also being the first ever MMA event held in Toronto Ontario Canada.

The event itself prove to be one of the best events the UFC has ever deliver, the card had KO’s , Submissions , TKO’s and Decisions, But most fights end up on finishes or were high paced fights. So here are 7 quick conclusions to UFC 129 :

1- We got 2 new contenders at 170 : Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger prove to be the type of fighters the UFC needs to have in the years to come, with MacDonald beating veteran Nate Diaz displaying beautiful Greco-roman Takedowns , great cardio and awesome stand up. While Jake Ellengerber just show us that his not only a wrestler but a all around fighter earning a quick Knockout, i guess after training with Rafael Cordero (Chute Box trainer) a KO is the reward you will get just ask Mark Munoz.

2- Former WEC Lightweight Champion can’t be submit : Mark Bocek is a great Jiu Jitsu guy with solid submissions, he had Ben Henderson in a deep choke for around a minute and it only seem to make Henderson angry enough to push the pace and deliver a flurry of punches and knees to Bocek, making him at the end win by Decision in his UFC debut. Proving that he is a legit contender and also that no matter how good your Jiu Jitsu may be even if your Cerrone, Pettis or Bocek Henderson just won’t Tap.

3- Vladimir Matyushenko is not just a ground and pound guy: he can punch and hard just ask Jason Brilz , at 40 years of age Vladimir seems to still have some fighting in him , beeing one of the very few to be able to still compete at 40 years.

4- Karate was never gone: Lyoto Machida prove to be still one of the top contender at 205, not only getting back to the winnings way but also sending a legend like Randy Couture to retirement… finally(we think). But one thing it’s for sure Randy is a warrior and will be remember as one of the best in the history of this young sport, and for that we thank you Captain America.

5- Jose Aldo is human after all and Hominick is a machine indeed : if it wasn’t for Frankie Edgar‘s performance in his last fight vs Gray Maynard i would dare to say that Hominick is the fighter with the most heart i seen in MMA, not only got drop a few times by the Champion Jose Aldo but also got some hard ground and pound, still Mark Hominick manage to survive and put the Champion on his back the last 3 mins of the fight and show him he was not going out with out a fight scorig some nice shots from the top hurting Aldo making him seem Human after all.

6- Georges St Pierre is no Longer Rush but GSP : It seems GSP may lack of something very important in the sport… the Killer instinct , the fight went as many predicted with GSP keeping it standing and avoiding takedowns from Shields , but to the surprise of many , GSP did not manage to damage Shields enough , he did drop him twices if im not wrong specially in the 4th round with a beautiful head kick, but sadly he did not went for the finish, GSP walk away with a Decision and his belt which is a good thing , but leave some fans a bad taste for the final of the event as he Rush to the hospital after looking like he went 10 rounds with Pacquiao when he actually fought 5 with Jiu Jitsu fighter Jake Shields, we can only hope this will help him to wake him up and figure how to finish like he used to do not to long ago.

7- UFC 129 prove that the hype was justified : UFC 129 was one of the best events the UFC has put on recent years , having it on a much bigger stage ( making me remember the Pride days). The fighters deliver an amazing action during the night , since the very first fight on the prelims starting with the Submission of the night to the bigger fights on the Main Event , lot of finishes , lot of high paced fights kinda make me remember of the WEC. UFC 129 Will sure be a number MMA fans will remeber for years to come.
