Nate Marquardt: I feel like I'm the best Welterweight in the world

"I really feel like it's my time. Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy. I'm one of the best in the world, and actually, I feel like I'm the best in the world, the best welterweight. I feel like I'm the best in the world, and that's who I expect I'll be fighting for my next fight – is one of the best in the world." - mmajunkie.com

Nate "The Great" Marquardt has improved to 32-10-1 in his Mixed Martial Arts career with a victory over Tyrone Woodley at last Saturday's Strikeforce card in Portland, Oregon. Marquardt can now call himself a champion for the first time since his reign as "The King of Pancrase" from more than seven years ago.

In his first title defense, Marquardt is expected to meet Jason "KC Bandit" High, or Kazuo Misaki. Both fighters are currently on winning streaks in a rather shallow Strikeforce welterweight division. Marquardt fought Misaki twice in Japan, winning on both occasions.

So what do you think, LowKick'ers? Where would you rank Nate Marquardt in the welterweight division? Use your keyboard.

I think any figter should feel that way, who knows at 170 he could be the best with his experience, and well roundedness

Well they pointed out that he was off TRT. Nate was a really good MW, and he looks to be better at WW

Also, we all know how MMA matchmaking works a lot of the time--guys who sit back and are quiet are often unappreciated, missng the big paydays. Look what happened after Nick Diaz mouthed off--he got a title shot and Carlos Condit was bumped.

Nate knows Strikeforce days are probably numbered, and he wants back in the UFC. These kind of statements seem to work with Dana a Joe and quite a few fans.

Codemaster, I know what he's doing. Maybe I just don't like his personality from the interviews I've seen.

I think he needs to say "I'm the best in the world" a few times more in that paragrah.

The testing is done by the athletic commissions and is the same for both organizations.

In fairness to him, I think he meant that he is the best welterweight in the world, not P4P best in the world. By the way, I thought George Safe-Pierre was the best welterweight fighter in the world.

I know i might get weaked for this but i think when you win a four round fight by KO with potentially one of the best up and coming undefeated welterweights after coming off over a year and a half layoff plus moving down a weight class, I would be on a winning high myself. Gotta admit it was a great fight.

I got him at #8 in the world right now. I look forward to seeing him move up the ranks. He looked awesome against Woodley.

Let's see who Zuffa matches him up with. Jason High would be a nice test considering he's on a good streak with few subs lately, but they didn't even show his fight during the broadcast.

This is exactly why he needs to go to the UFC...Jason High is the best matchup Strikeforce can give him.

Nate has already absolutely destroyed two guys who I consider top 10 in the UFC Welterweight division in Demian Maia and Martin Kampmann. There are no fights for him in Strikeforce...unless he wants to go back to Middleweight.

I was at the fights, Nate looked really big at 170. That fight saved the whole night for me, i was bored as hell. Honestly most of my section was looking at Chael Sonnen and MC Hammer half the night.

The big screen kept show Tyron's mom, gettin all crunk "thats my son he's gonna whoop him blah blah" Seriously i was across the stadium and could hear her lol I was praying Nate would KO him, then BAM right in front of her he gets dropped.... The look on her face was worth my $50 ticket. The crowd was cheering so loud every time it showed the replay, She did eventually clap for Nate, thats my little story :)
