Strikeforce Heavyweight Daniel Cormier (10-0 MMA, 7-0 SF) is getting ready for the biggest fight of his career against UFC's Frank Mir (16-6 MMA, 14-6 UFC) who is crossing over to Strikeforce for this closeout fight of the SF Heavyweight division. The bout is scheduled to take place on November 3, 2012 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a mere 65 miles from Cormier's alma mater, Oklahoma State University.

Cormier, one of the rising stars in MMA, is looking forward to this "hometown advantage", even though he is originally from Louisiana, saying: "I am excited to be going back to Oklahoma for this fight because it's been like my second home. My first fight was in Oklahoma, and the biggest fight of my Strikeforce career will be there. Fighting Frank Mir is an honor, as I've always viewed him as a great warrior and champion of the sport. This matchup shows that Zuffa is committed to putting me in big fights, and for that I thank them."

The evening's main card will be broadcast on Showtime (10:00 p.m.) following preliminary bouts on Showtime Extreme (8:00 p.m.).

After this event, both Mir and Cormier will compete exclusively in the UFC. Mir is coming in off of a loss to UFC Heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos. This fight could prove to be a redemption match for him if he defeats Cormier: "It's a very interesting fight and one I accepted right away when it was offered to me. The fight makes a lot of sense for me right now in my career. I'm excited to go to Strikeforce and challenge the best Heavyweight there. Cormier is a top-10 fighter and is a great wrestler with a big right hand, but I can strike, too, and my Brazilian jiu-jitsu gives me the advantage if it does go to the ground."

sorry but this isnt tank abbott vs dan severn, both fighters have good standup and groundgames , ask crocop ,kongo and nogueira how mirs hands are. plus cormier has a top level wrestling backround, i give the edge to cormier just because franks cardio seems to be lacking from his last couple of fights but they are both capable of winning from any position

cormiers gonna rock franks world and then throw him like a ragdoll. if he beats mir more impressively than jds did he deserves a title shot more than overroid who dropped out of tournament. but the grudge match with reem and jds is bound to happen first

There was talks about if Conmier makes it to the UFC he would drop down to LHW because Cain and him train together.

i heard about that, he would be a serious threat to jon jones and anyone else in the light heavy division. he said tho he had hard weight cuts and kidney failure when he wrestled so he might not go down.cain and him might fight u never know if cain loses to jds cormier will prob end up fighting for title at some point anyways

Should be a sick match up. I doubt it will go to the ground though and DCs stand up has looked real sharp lately. I'll have to go with DC in this one.

+1 and for some reason I root for Frank a lot.Maybe its just seeing what he had to go through to get back in MMA after his accident. But yeah, Cormier has the faster accurate hands IMO and we all saw how strong he is, picking up Barnett and flipping him midair.

cormiers has this one pretty easily because as we all know mir doesn't do well at all against very good wrestlers its always been his weakness his striking has gotten better over the years but i think cormiers is up to par with his if not a little better and i think he hits harder than him and is a little faster at striking as well and i think this fight is gonna be the same as the fight when cormier fought barnett and when frank mir fought when frank starts losing in the stand up hes gonna try and take cormier down to submit him which he won't even come close to doing because cormiers wrestling is way to good and strong and cormier is prettty strong as well

    Hyped for this fight!

Rooting for Mir to get perhaps one last big win before he finishes his career.

If he doesn't win then it will be the emergence of a fighter with a impressive and championship worthy career in front of him.

Also interesting to see a BJJ master against a Olympic wrestler

Too many people ride along with bandwagons these days in the mixed martial arts world. What has daniel cormier done to make anyone believe that he is a top 10 guy. He KOed silva but aint done shit since then or before then. His fight with Josh Barnett was as boring at John Fitches fights. Frank on the other hand has had some crazy ass fights and has definetly proved himself as a heavyweight. He has a better chance of KOing cormier than cormier has over him. And if it goes to the ground. Mir will sub him very, very fast.

Go ahead and "weak" me for telling it how it is.

He beat Monson before that, not a top ten worth fight but a decent veteran. Then beat Barnett who was pretty much a universal top 10 pick, by outstriking and outwrestling (pretty much dominating every aspet of the fight which wasn't anything close to an old Fitch position heavy fight). In between he beat Big Foot Silva who just came off beating Fedor, and was a consensus top ten fighter.

It's not hype. When you beat top ten competition (twice in a row), you're most likely going to be slotted there.

I'm not going to weak you, but you are definitely not telling it how it is. You're telling a skewed perception of reality that few (rightfully so) agree with.

If you thought that fight was boring then you don't belong here. I hear Sherdog are desperate for members. Might wanna try there

I like DC and I'm looking forward to his fight with Frank Mir. Yet I also really would like to see Frank Mir against Josh Barnett in the mother of all ground wars. Also throw in there Fabricio Werdum to meet the winner.
