Wooooooow!!! Werdum is really seeing dollar bills! I think he knows there is a great chance that Overeem will absolutely avenge that 2006 loss and he is capitalising on his "fluke" victory. That IS a smart marketing move.
However I feel for Overeem because he will a) be starved of a world level opponent for even longer and b) he will have to wait even longer for a dream fight with Fedor that may never ever happen!
Werdum's decision is a great tactical move for himself (personally I would take my win over Fedor and run with it for a while) but I think it is bad for the sport of MMA as I believe there should be a hierarchy in a championship level fight. How can the champion not have a contender when there are two world class fighters in his division?!! I can only see Bigfoot Silva as a meagre challenger.
My opinion: Alistair fights Werdum asap as they are both in a clean bill of health and Fedor can have a rematch with Brett Rogers as a probable tune up for the title shot against whoever the winner of the Werdum/Overeem 2 fight is.....
A lot of that sounded good. I just disagree with your assessment of BigFoot. He out boxed Arlovski. Not a lot of fighters can do that. I think Fedor V Bigfoot would be a legit fight to get the next #1 contender for the winner of Werdum V Overeem. I just hope Coker doesn't let the fighters dictate this one.
Erm, did you not notice that Arlovski had an off night? And that he is insecure from suffering back to back knockouts?? Even if Bigfoot did "outbox" him, it was because Arlovski was tentative and had cage rust...I think he had not fought for about a year.
Silva would have a puncher's chance against Fedor and that is it was why I said "meagre"...comprende?
No doubt, Arlovski did not have his head on straight but he also couldn't do a damn thing with Silva. Silva also dominated Werdum until he gassed. Who is going to give Fedor a better fight amongst the available fighters?
Brett Rogers........as already proven.
I wonder what Alistair thinks of all this. What would Werdum do if he loses? Would he be looked at like Frank Mir? Would he get no credit for his win over Fedor like Mir gets no credit for his win over Lesnar? Are people going to say Fedor is still ducking fights now that he has taken a loss? Is there going to be that conspiracy theorist that says SF put him up to this and M1 put SF up to it? Man people are going to hate on this for sure.
If I were Alistair and the fight with Werdum doesn't happen I would try to find a way out of my contract.
Werdum is injured and won't see the cage until 2011. Why not make the Overeem v. Fedor fight happen now? Now it would make sense. I understand before word of Werdum's injury to elbow that Werdum and Overeem should happen, but now since he has to have surgery and will be out Fedor and Overeem should happen. That sounds the most logical to me. I think Bigfoot and Rogers should fight to face the little round robin of Overeem, Fedor and Werdum.
even though it is fedor... strikeforce cant keep giving title shots to people who lose... fedor doesnt deserve overeem atm... he did before his loss... i think he needs to fight bigfoot silva and if he can get past him then yes give him overeem.. then werdum can get fedor or overeem and if overeem beats fedor.. then werdum has no reason to be ****y and feel he would beat overeem... personally i think overeem would beat werdum as long as he is technical and picks his spots and makes it a K1 match..
i wrote c.ocky... no idea that wud be be blurred out lol
I think having the loser fight for the title is okay this time. It is like when GSP beat Penn but couldn't fight Hughes due to an injury so Penn fought him instead.
I think Fedor and Alistar would both KO or TKO Werdum. Man it could have been so sweet : After TKOing Werdum and taking the Title by KO Fedor Fedor was supposed to enter the UfC in glory and start an epic cleanout ......... and now ??? now we have a clown who thinks he is Rocky Balboa.
It is still just as likely (Fedor was never going to the UFC)
Both sides are too inflexible.
They're just putting on a play... Strikeforce was taking the right position at first (they were pretending to), and were going to for once make the appropriate fight happen. That's what you were supposed to think. But... Now that it's time for Werdum to get the title-shot he deserves, no, he'll have some surgery on a chronic issue that will keep him out for a year. Which is really a shame too... Because Strikeforce really wanted to be professional this time, they really really wanted to. But, that damn chronic elbow that didn't bug him when he was putting Fedor to sleep... Better get that fixed now. Because it will keep the Strikeforce joke-belt up in the air for just a little bit longer. In Russia in an epic dramatic Rocky |V battle to determine who gets their ass kicked by Overeem first.
*stabbing needles in to his Scott Coker voodoo doll*
Yeah, fighting in Russia, this guy must think his Rocky or something... Anyway, he got as punchers chance with that submission and now his trying to pass himself as a "champion" or something. Thats the problem when you let fighters on your organization pick fights. Fighters dont get a say in it, they get payed to fight whoever "comes in line". Right now, Werdum should fight Overeen. Period. Failing to deliver that fight will only make Strikeforce look more lame, specially with all the hype about a fight with two pro wrestlers...
Holy smack, Is Werdum that really messed up to think he's the best after back to back losses in the UFC? lmao. I wonder if a re-match with Junior Dos Santos would make Werdum think he's going backwards too? lol, JUNIOR would knock him the F@@# out again, Sorry Werdum, you just got SUPER lucky with that arm bar on Fedor. Yes it usually work on OTHER opponents but you got EXTREMELY lucky to pull it off on Fedor, after all he's been in that kind of situation were he's was in trouble be was always able to get out. WERDUM just plain sucks. I cant see him beating Overeem, Fedor (again), Lesner, JDS (lol), Carwin, or even Big Country lol. I cant believe i said Big Country but even I think Big Country would know Werdum on his a$$...I think his head is tooo far up his own A$$.
sorry just correcting myself, i meant triangle lock, NOT arm bar. TYPE-O
so he wants to fight fedor only from here on out. werdum vs fedor 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ect. Best out of ten
