I hate people that treat plants this way. Plants are people to damn it!

Genetically enhancing soy products so they will nourish the same as an animal. That's just plain sick..

Soy isn't gen-modified. Soy beans naturally contain all of the amino acids we need. I've been a vegetarian for a long time and have looked into all of this. Qinoa also contains all of the amino acids. As for Peta (and HSUS) I am all for preventing animal cruelty but those organizations are not what they seem.

Penn and Teller suck too. I don't think Pete or HSUS are hypocrites, but they are extremists and in some cases knowingly lie. For instance, HSUS sites a recent USGS study as a reason to ban 9 large constrictor species. The only problem is that a large panel of independent biologists has come forward with a letter to congress stating that the USGS study does not stand up to scientific rigor. They still use it as a tool to lobby to ban animals that are statistically less dangerous to the environment than domestic cats and less dangerous to people than dogs both of which are HSUS/PETA approved pets. I wish there was an animal rights group that didn't suck and wasn't full of stupid idealogs because I do believe that animals should have some legal rights but those two are not those groups.

Odd how some people (idiots?) always associate anyone pro-animal welfare with gay, weak, etc. Yet I seriously doubt any of those losers would like to go 3 rounds with Shields. Being a vegetarian is a moral/ethical standpoint like being religious or caring about the world's starving. It should be respected as such and any douchebag that can't understand that is exactly that...a douchebag.

animal cruelty is really bad i do hate it, but to be vegetarian in order to quit animal cruelty i dont think it will help alot, there should be more regulations and stuff like that by the goverment even if animals are just to eat they are alive and should be treated even better because they are who keep us alive. Not saying that what shields is doing is pointless or stupid i have more respect for him now that he cares for other things that other people dont

Vegetarianism isn't just about animal cruelty. I care a great deal about animal rights but to be honest that is NOT why I am a vegetarian. The main reason is survival. It takes acres of land to produce a few pounds of meat as well as all of the petroleum to fertilize, kill insects and move the crops to feed the animals and then to move the meat. The simple truth is that with a human population approaching 7bilion, our planet can't sustain that. I can't blame someone for wanting meat. We evolved to eat other animals as well as veggies. However, if we all keep eating meat we will eat ourselves extinct unless someone figures out how to terraform Mars really quickly.

You are an uneducated yokel. BTW Brian Greene is a vegetarian. I think his work on Calabi-Yau flop transitions and mirror symmetry show that his head works just fine.

A YokeL* is just another word for moron type deal, just more of an old school type, my dad uses that word... as for calabi-yau: are complex manifolds that are higher-dimensional analogues of K3 surfaces. It is actually quite sophisticated and intelligent.

yeah, but the protein in qinoa is pretty easy and if you eat a varied diet you can get all the amino acids you need without eating any complete proteins. The problem most of the unhealthy vegetarians I have known have had is that they didn't know how to properly vary their diets in order to get all the necessary nutrients. Most of the meat eaters I know have the same problem though. That is why they are fat or have bad cholesterol or some other problem.
