The Diaz-Miller feud spills backstage in San Jose

Following his 5 round decisive win over long time rival KJ Noons, Nick Diaz and his entourage were involved in a backstage altercation with another old rival, Jason "Mayhem" Miller. According to sources via MMA Junkie, both fighters were involved in a brief situation backstage.

Upon entering the backstage area, Diaz's entourage encountered Miller, and words were exchanged between the two. Diaz was said to have thrown a water bottle at Mayhem. After this, both fighters had to be separated by their respective parties. MMA Junkie report that a showtime official confirmed to them that the incident had happened, but played down the significance of the situation.

Speaking afterwards at the press conference, Coker was surprised to hear of the backstage drama. He did however admit that Mayhem had repeatedly requested a fight with Diaz, and made it clear that Strikeforce were willing to make it happen in the future, but AFTER Diaz had defended his belt, against either Cyborg Santos, Scott Smith or Paul Daley.

During the conference, Coker addressed a possible Diaz Miller fight:

"It's one thing not to like each other, but if they really want to fight, then we'll put it together."
"That would be a great fight to promote," Coker said. "It's not hard to promote that fight. But we'll see if they really want to do fight in the cage. It's one thing to have them bump in to each other in the hallway and call each other names. But if they really want to fight in the cage, if anybody can put it together, we can put it together."

When asked at what weight the Diaz Miller bout would be at, Coker teasingly added:

"I'll answer that in two weeks."

Can't wait for the Paul Daley vs Scott Smith match-up... Not to mention the potential for a Daley-Noons bout. There's a lot of good fights for Semtex in Strikeforce. Glad he signed with another major promotion.

I'm losing any respect I had for Mayhem Miller. Obviously, if you confront a Diaz, they're not walking away. Miller has instigated both incidents. Just stay the **** away from people you don't like. Everybody else does.

That's all Miller has bud. He is doing everything he can to make a name for himself off of Diaz.

During interviews and sit-downs, Miller likes to position himself as some kind of well thought out intelligent fighter. The guy is as a dumb as a rock and can barely formulate a sentence. Just watch the many interviews he has had recently ( ones including Joe Rogan ect.) He tries to come off with quick and witty comments but is often stuck mid sentence searching for words and looking confused. He's as dumb as a rock! Yet, he likes calling out Nick as being dimwitted. "Freudian Projection" much Miller?

It took Miller months to realize he could make extra cash if he pushed for a fight with Nick. Now all we see is this mediocre half-wit dropping Nick's name everywhere, in hopes that he is associated with being a champion.

First off, Diaz is the champ and has worked his ass off to be where he is today. Secondly, Miller is heavier than Diaz but doesn't want to drop in weight to fight him.

Words to the clueless, if you want to fight the champ, you need to string together a series of wins with top tier opponents in the weight class that champ actually holds the belt. Honestly, is it that hard to understand? In what other sport or even in MMA, does a guy get a shot at the champ just by talking smack? I wouldn't be surprised if SF becomes the first to allow such nonsense.

Diaz and his camp have already said they would GIFT Miller the fight but he would have to drop to Nick's weight class or they could go for a catchweight.

What more does this halfwit want? If you show up with hat in hand, don't expect the deed to the estate to be handed to you!

    Damn halfwit!

@ Capjo Miller doesnt need to make a name based off of Diaz. The dude has popular show on MTV. Id say Miller is more known then Diaz is. Also Diaz vs Miller needs to happen already...It would be a bigger and better fight then any other fight that SF can put on using Diaz. Also Miller knows hes not the sharpest tool in the shed but hes more intelligent or at least more intelligent sounding then Nick. Miller has a problem with Diaz cuz of his attitude not cuz of his intelligence.

Mediocre Miller has made a SMALL name for himself off of Bully Beatoff. In the world of MMA, he is known as a mediocre fighter who will never hold a championship belt in his career.

...but what am I wasting my typing on you for, you're a Bully Beatoff groupie.

I agree with a lot of what your saying and commend your assertions in this blog. It will always be normal for people who disagree to attempt to team up against you and bark their bullsht. All you have to do is credit Nick for his abilities and the parrots start squaking around here.

But seriously, who would care what a guy or something, says named Skip2mylou....sounds a little soft to me.

I think i read that one 10 years ago. And i would loan you one of my Curious George books but im afraid its a little too hard for you to comprehend. Plus you always color outside the lines......So no...

He doesn't want to stay away from Diaz, he is trying to annoy Diaz into giving him a title shot rather than earning it. Mayhem is a classless bum who was trying to tarnish a great win by Diaz.

I'de say an MMA champ is a guy who has many abilities but chooses to beat his opponent with his own principal.

No that doesnt equal an MMA champ at all...You are not gonna see Shogun try to out wrestle Rashad Evans. You dont see Silva attempt to out wrestle Sonnen or do Jui Jitsu with Maia. GSP isnt gonna stand up with a guy with KO power. An MMA champ is someone who is the best in the division, they dont need to prove anything since they are already the champion. Also Nick Diaz got round cuz he knocked down KJ Noons and got top control for a good portion of the round which caused Noons to not be able to stand up and try to outbox Diaz to steal that round back. I scoff at your statement UrHype, im disappointed in you =p

I completely agree with you griffin.

They seem to have a real dislike for each other and sometimes that turns into ring/cage wars. Scott shouldn't BS around with this. There is no reason to. It should be a catch-weight fight and therefore not for the title. Contenders for the title wouldn't be overly affected by an immediate fight between Diaz and Miller. It's not like they would have to wait a whole year for their title shot.

It wouldn't be the first time a champion from a weight division took time to fight at another division or catch-weight. In the UFC, Anderson Silva was doing it and not always fighting the very next contender.

    Let them fight ASAP Scott!

He fought GSP at 170 back in '04 correct. Diaz has fought at 185 too though. If this fight is to be a title fight then yes obviously it needs to be at 170. I think it should be a non title catch weight fight. If Diaz can fight an aging Frank at 185 within this past year then he can fight there now too. Don't be scared homie!
