Strikeforce Results: Nick Diaz TKO's Paul Daley

In one of the most entertaining rounds in MMA history, Nick Diaz retained his Strikeforce Welterweght title with a TKO victory over Paul "Semtex" Daley.

The fight started with Diaz taunting Daley, but the Cesar Gracie product quickly tasted some of Brit's power, finding himself with face down on the canvas. However, Daley was unable to finish the fight, giving Diaz an opportunity to recover. Nick Diaz got back on his feet, unleashing fury on Paul Daley. Now it was "Semtex" who was hurt, and forced to counter punch in order to defend himself.

But counter-puncher or not, Paul Daley managed to hurt Nick Diaz again. The Champion once again found himself with face down on the canvas, as Daley went very close to finishing the fight and becoming the new Strikeforce Welterweight Champion.

Then, in an awkward Deja-vu moment, Diaz managed to stand up on his feet. And once again, the Champ unleashed the fury at Daley at the fence, looking to finish the fight. Daley managed to push Nick Diaz away, but he was already KO'd on his feet. The British challenger wobbled and fell down on his back, and it was nothing but a short way from there for Nick Diaz to finish the fight just a few seconds before the end of Round 1.

Diaz improves his record to 25-7, and is without a doubt one of the top Mixed Martial Artists in the world today. Strikeforce Welterweight Champion makes a great case for challenging the winner of Jake Shields and George St. Pierre (if GSP is victorious), in case the UFC decide to make the Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami fight official for UFC: Rio.

i had daley to win by ko rd 2. I really like diaz but he does leave himself open to taking too many shots(gomi-zaromskis-cyborg) and even though he has a good chin i thought against daley with daley's power it would cost him the belt, but fair play he is still the champ.

im a huge Diaz fan, but i was so nervous during the that fight i stood the whole time. Im STILL shocked he won that by TKO. I was just a fanboy but i think it fair to say now he is a legit force to be reckoned with in the WW division.

@Angeles, kid, you are a clueless tool. stop moving the goal post and accept the FACT that Nick is one of the top fighters in MMA!

He would DESTROY Mr. Playing it Safe GSP in the same dominating style he just destroyed this load-mouth, one dimensional Brit!

Considering Jake will beat the limp-wristed, Candian champ, Nick will move on to other note worthy fights!

yes diaz is a great fighter i would like to see him fight a guy like thiago alves or kampmann. as far as gsp goes nick achilles heel has always been strong wrestlers. if you look at his losses almost all of them have been against wrestlers who have taken him down and controlled him and in some cases dominated him (it is one of the reasons nick always complains about wrestling in mma). given those losses all happened several years ago and nick definatley seems to be a reinvented fighter since then . we have yet to see if he has improved in the wrestling department as strikeforce just does not have the caliber of grapplers in their ww div as the ufc does.

Glass chin? Lmao. GSP's chin has been tested numerous times. Penn battered his face in their first fight and couldn't knock him out. Serra landed a good temple shot and GSP slipped and because his equilibrium was messed, couldn't gain balance.

GSP would own Diaz standing and on the ground easily all day. GSP has two inches on Nick's reach and the best timing = Nick pwnt.

I would pick Georges to win but there is no way he would "own Diaz standing". He may get the better of the exchanges like he did in the Alves fight but he would not own him.

It's all technique? So, controlling and grappling and preventing someone from getting up requires no technique what so ever? GSP owns his opponents. He punches them when he wants. He takes them down when he wants. He controls them and man handles them. If there were no rounds, his opponents would die from exhaustion and punishment.

Fight was stopped too soon, Daley was rocked but he fell over cause he broke his own ankle(not literally, just a basketball term). His guard was still up and he was still coherent, 3 seconds left. Has Big John always sucked as a referee? Since he came back this is like the 3rd bad call....Also Dr. Robotnik ruined the Mousasi fight, that upkick didnt do anything, and the "nut shot" didnt look like it landed. Jardine thought he was gonna get a cut check but he realized it was for a nut shot and half assed acted like his nuts hurt for 3 seconds lol....Or am I imagining things??

Diaz is a great fighter but an absolute thug outside the cage. He shut up all the Daley fans tonight in a fashion that none of them though possible. He hasn't got an iron chin so shut the fook up. He has great recovery. Different story all together. DON'T try to put him in GSP's class because he's not. Daley wouldn't & would never have troubled GSP.

Kos may have ground out a decision but it shows Daleys 1 dimension fighting style is so obvious.

Diaz is a raw talent & that is rare. He is not the athlete that GSP is. STOP & I mean STOP trying to put Diaz above GSP. Until the two step in the cage or octagon the truth won't be known. So shut it. STOP dreaming. Diaz may get his chance in the UFC again but until he grows a brain & stops being a thug he may never get that chance.

Did it seem like Daley kinda gassed himself a little? Not to take anything away from Diaz he is exceptional, but from my point of view I kinda thought Daley looked a little tired when he got Diaz to the ground on that punch which dropped him. I haven't got a second chance to watch the fight but thats my preliminary thought

Outclassed is like what John Jones did to Shogun or like what GSP did to Koscheck. This fight obviously could have gone either way. Therefore, nobody was outclassed.

I was at the fight and I was noticing Daley getting tired early. If he wasn't so tired I think he could have finished it. However, I give nuff respect to Diaz for surviving twice and finishing the fight before the round ended. However, I didn't like the unsportsmanlike conduct in the end. Going after a guy you just TKO'ed while he's sitting in the stool you already won?... That's some BS. He's gotta work that out. Entertaining fight though.

I don't even think it was the body shots. He hasn't experienced that pace in a long time. When he was T'ing off on him the second time he should have hit him on the other side(with his left). He was hitting Diaz's arm. A little more experience and learning from small mistakes like that can take Daley far. Both fighters did well AND I think Big John fu@ked it up at the end. Daley was still trying to defend himself and I'm convinced that it was a premature stoppage.. Gotta give both fighters credit though.

I just now watched the fight for a second and third time, and i think it was a bad call by the ref, Daley looked okay to me, i think he could have lasted another 5 seconds until the end of the round, although Daley took his time getting up, i'm not sure if that was cause he was tired/upset, rocked or if he had hurt his knee. I like both Diaz and Daley and it was a great fight but i just feel like the fight was kind of ruined by the stoppage.

Like em or hate em, you need to respect his abilities. Daley lacked the ability to control the fight and against the Diaz brothers (who both have notable chin strength), it was obviously the losing factor. Had Daley been able to keep Diaz controlled after getting him dazed, Daley would be wearing the belt.

Diaz needs to really look at his minor weaknesses if he wants to become professional. However with his s**** attitude, I doubt he ever will.
