Strikeforce Results: Marloes Coenen dramatically submits Liz CarmouchePosted on March 5, 2011, 10:43 PM by Anton Gurevich
Reigning Strikeforce 135-pounds Women Champion Marloes Coenen successfully defended her title against Liz Carmouche at the co-main event of Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson this evening.
Coenen met a tough opponent in the ambitious Carmouche, as "Girl-Zilla" walked through everything the Golden Glory product had against her. Carmouche ended rounds two and three on top of Coenen, raining down vicious ground and pound strikes.
But Coenen managed to weather the storm, and lock up a perfect triangle choke in the fourth round. Liz Carmouche had no way out, and was forced to tap out in what was without a doubt one of the most dramatic endings in Strikeforce history.
Liz Carmouche tasted defeat for the first time, but there's no doubt about her being a top contender in the WMMA scene. Coenen will now wait for Meisha Tate to recover, in what will be a unification bout between the Strikeforce Women Tournament winner, and the reigning 135-pounds Champion.
