Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg Media Conference Call Highlights

Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz and Evangelista Santos will headline the stacked Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Santos fight card, set to take place January 29th from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.  A Middleweight collision between division champ Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and the heavy-handed Robbie Lawler will serve as the co-main event, as NFL veteran Herschel Walker makes his return against Scott Carson and Trevor Prangley meets undefeated Roger Gracie in a Light Heavyweight showdown.

Below are highlights from Thursday’s Media Conference Call, which included both Nick Diaz and Ronaldo Souza.  However, while both Champions were on the line to discuss their upcoming title fights, it was “The Stockton Bad Boy” who stole the show, ripping Jason Miller, Josh Koscheck, and Georges St. Pierre, as he fumed over everything from MMA rankings to his current pay rate.

    Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza

    • The plan is to bring the jiu-jitsu to the table at the right time.

    • I’ve fought a lot of tough guys, and I’d put Robbie Lawler right there in the mix.

    • My takedowns aren’t wrestling takedowns. I call them “Jacare takedowns.” I put my own twist on them.

    • My fight with Lawler will look different than Lindland’s because both of them are left-handed.

    Nick Diaz

    • I haven’t thought too much about Paul Daley, to be honest.

    • I don’t want to fight unless I’m going to get paid a lot of money.

    • If someone halfway important is fighting, I’m watching it. I’m familiar with most guys, including Cyborg.

    • I think Cyborg is the best opponent right now. I want to fight Georges St. Pierre. I think Shields is going to take him out though.

    • I’d be happy to move up. I just want to get paid for it.

    • I never said I wouldn’t fight Miller because of weight. If I’m going to throw my whole year off, I want to get paid in full.

    • Tell Miller to get his ass in shape and make 170 or 175 pounds. Or someone can “pay me a couple f***ing million dollars” to move up.

Josh Koscheck took an ass whooping in a fight I cornered. The UFC gave him easy fights. I didn’t get easy fights in the UFC.

    • We got this guy who doesn’t even fight. He drinks in a bar. And we took him to fight Josh Koscheck.

    • So when you tell me these guys are the best fighters in the world, it’s a f***ing joke.

    • People think GSP is better than me, it’s bulls***. He just fought Josh Koscheck. I just told you about him.

    • Right now, what do you want? You got them ranked above me.

Speaking about a potential grudge match with Mayhem, Diaz told press:

“I’d like to get paid something extra. Double, triple, something crazy for me to do something extra that would screw up my weight to fight at that weight. I’m not just doing it for free when I’d make the same money to fight at 170-pounds. It’s twice as much work. I never didn’t want to sign for that fight with Miller. They were talking about making me move weights. I said tell his ass to get in f*cking shape and make weight like I do. It’s f*cking hard enough for me to make 170-pounds. He acts like he wouldn’t be able to do it, he doesn’t want to work hard like me, that’s the problem. He can work his ass off and make 170-pounds or 175-pounds or somebody can pay me a f*cking couple million dollars and I’ll move up to 185-pounds and fight him. Or he can quit getting f*cking slapped in public, I know somebody’s got that sh*t on video tape. That motherf*cker doesn’t want to fight me.”

nick diaz is scared of miller

    • Bnuts218

Ur trippin.. Diaz offered miller a catchweight at 179, so 180pds.. Why wouldnt miller just use the time he was talkin crap a lose 5 pounds hahaha.. Miller is a joke.. U dont call out the champ and expect him to meet ur demands.. DONT BE SCARED HOMIE (MILLER)

    • mtnman

Diaz knows he isn’t going to get paid million that’s a cop out in my opinion

    • Boner89

seriously Cyborg?!? now I don’t want to fighter bash or anything, but Cyborg has got less than a punchers chance of beating Nick. Nick should be fighting MIller, but Miller won’t cut to 180. Come on Mayhem either cut to 180 or STFU!

    • FirstnLastEmperor

this guy’s ****ing delusional , how in the world does he think any of what he said is true.. gsp is gonna be shields, gsp is better than diaz, ok fine no one should get 40mill to fight , period. diaz is probably still getting like 30-40k plus win bonus etc etc no? i dont ever look at their salaries , if he wasnt such a ****sucker maybe he’d be marketable and could make money with more sponsors etc etc, but no, him and his brother are little ghetto bitches , how bout he learn how to spell and say words properly before getting paid the big $, GSP is french and is more understandable than these tards, thank god this interview was written, or i wouldnt have gotten so much from it

    • Daniel Cassidy

i agree. i feel miller is the one doing all the calling, he should make the weight

    • evilways

I’ve seen cyborg win 1 fight out of 10 in my life.

    • dray12

I don’t get how any hardcore fight fan cannot appreciate Nick Diaz. He is a fighter in the purest sense of the word. Its all hes good at and he can barely live comfortably.

    • 1meanguillotine

nick diaz only fears one man, chuck norris

    • Cronos

Shamrock said something like him being a view of our modern day society, execpt he is unbeatable. Don’t hate Diaz for who he is, his life has made him that way and he deserves respect..and a good pay

    • Stiks

      Diaz’s game plan:
      Outskill him

    • Stiks

Not that I take either side, but both sides are bickering about weight gain or cut. Both of them need to STFU or fight already.

    • Lokkey

i think he’s a little scared of Paul Daley too

    • pound4pound

You got it right Daniel, he is the one bitching about the fight but not willing to lose some pounds, what about this Miller grow a pair and drop some weight, he is willing to meet in a catchweight but you say he is scared of fighting on your division Miller makes no sense to me..

    • Thang

I agree Diaz should get paid more but a couple of millions is ridiculous and in boxing I don’t even know how can they get paid that kind of money is beyond me….

    • Ninja

Ya man….Diaz is a true fighter, that’s his life, when he isn’t training to fight hes training Shields, Nate or Melendez, he mite be arrogant and outspoken but that is usually only b4 the fight after he actually fights somone he raises there arm, hugs them n all that, he even did that with Noons, which is why hes one of my fav fighter he goes in there fights n is entertaining

    • UrHype

I totally disagree and how would you know that? Crystal ball?
Ive never seen him scared of anyone>>>>>>name one guy youve really noticed hes scared of, most likely you just dont like him and were first to come and bash him.

    • UrHype

hahah Lokkey, just because your scared of confrontations doesnt mean everyone else is.

    • UrHype

Yes Dan thats what hes saying, if he has to change weight to fight a loud talker it will mess up whats already planned and thats the belt and keeping it in the class hes in. MIller man up quit crying and make Nicks weight or catch weight. Miller your lucky hes agreeing to a catch weight in the first place. He”ll pick Miller apart, Miller isnt a striker only grappling.

    • UrHype

Im sure this article had questions asked to Nick, hes prob not going out of his way to talk smack like Miller.

    • UrHype

Hurry call the WHAAAAAmbulance…hate the Diaz”s much? lmao

    • Lokkey

Well, i haven’t turned my back on a fight ever. Even when i’m sure i get beaten up, so whatever you say.

    • hinrik

      onemoreround you are an idiot
