Heavyweight prospect Shane Del Rosario, who was scheduled to meet Daniel Cormier at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum in June, has been forced to withdraw from the bout after suffering undisclosed injuries in a car accident last week.

Cormier is not expected to remain on the card.  Instead, a Lightweight clash between K.J. Noons and Jorge Masvidal will likely fill the vacated slot.

MMAJunkie.com first reported the development, which has been confirmed by sources close to the event.

Masvidal (21-6) was last seen picking up a unanimous decision victory over Billy Evangelista in March.  Though it was the American Top Team trained fighter's first bout with the promotion in more than three years, he remains undefeated under the Strikeforce banner, with previous victories over Matt Lee and Ryan Healy.

Noons (10-3), meanwhile, has not been in action since his failed attempt at dethroning Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz last October.  The loss snapped a six-fight winning streak, which included a 2007 TKO victory over Diaz while competing for EliteXC.

Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum is set to take place June 18th from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.  The stacked card will be headlined by a pair of Heavyweight Grand Prix quarterfinal bouts, one of which pits division Champion Alistair Overeem against Fabricio Werdum, while the other features former UFC champ Josh Barnett taking on Brett Rogers.

I was actually really looking forward to this match. Del Rosario and Cormier are both big prospects in the HW division. Seeing them against one another would have put their true potential into perspective. With that said, Noons vs. Masvidal should be an exciting replacement. Kind of the odd fight out tho, seeings how the rest are all HW matches aside from the women's bout.
