Sergei Kharitonov knocks out Andrei Arlovski in the First RoundPosted on February 12, 2011, 10:31 PM by Anton Gurevich
Sergei Kharitonov delivered Andrei Arlovski his fourth straight defeat, with a crushing knockout in the First Round. Arlovski controlled the action in earlier parts of the fight with good movement and striking combination, as Kharitonov decided to use the "wait and see" approach with a relatively defensive style.
But when Kharitonov finally opened up, he landed a perfect combination of uppercuts and right-left punches that forced Arlovski into retreat. Kharitonov landed another punch to knock down Arlovski, which was followed by powerful ground and pound strikes. The referee Kevin Mulhall was forced to stop the action, as Andrei Arlovski laid motionless on the canvas.
Kharitonov is the first fighter to advance into semi-finals, where he'll meet the winner of fight between Josh Barnett and Brett Rogers.
