"Semtex" Chronicles: Paul Daley has to win Tonight

One of the most successful Mixed Martial Artists to come out of Great Britain, Paul “Semtex” Daley”, will step tonight inside the Strikeforce cage, looking to become the first fighter representing United Kingdom to become a Champion in top-tier MMA promotion.

But it's not just about UK MMA and winning titles.

Twenty-eight year old Daley already experienced the record low of his career. The fight against Josh Koscheck at UFC 113, or to be precise - what happened after it, would be forever remembered as a defining moment in Paul Daley’s career. From fan-favorite and one of the potential challengers for Georges St. Pierre’s UFC Welterweight title, Daley became an outcast, fighting at Impact FC and Shark Fights.

Paul Daley nicknamed “Semtex” for the explosive power in his hands, but the same thing can also be said about his personality. Daley’s manager Wad Alameddine is the "closest source to the situation": "He (Paul Daley) is a difficult character at times. Paul is a challenge to work with, but I also admire him a lot for what and how he does. At the end of the day he’s a fighter and at some point he simply has to have that mindset. Paul Daley is the most talented guy UK produced in MMA, and you can’t argue with that really.”

Tonight's fight against Nick Diaz is a perfect opportunity for Paul Daley to show MMA fans around the World that he learned to control the “Semtex”. Victory over a Top 5 Welterweight in Nick Diaz will cement Paul Daley’s spot as one of the best 170’ers in the World, and will definitely bring him one step closer to (despite what Dana White says) an inevitable UFC return.

Diaz vs. Daley has every potential to become an all-time MMA classic, a war between two fighters, not only by profession, but most of all – by nature. Fighters like Paul Daley and Nick Diaz always bring excitement, and truly represent the "fighting" aspect of Mixed Martial Arts. Expect fireworks, ladies and gentlemen.

    inevitable that is. And I truly believe that sooner or later, we gonna see Daley in the UFC again. Believe me, if after his "feud" with Dana White Tito Ortiz fights in the UFC, Paul Daley should definitely be there.

    Its about the so called making money. It would be a huge cash cow for the ufc especially in britton and europe for them to have a home champion. They could really hype this with the right ,marketing.

    And to my origional point. Paul Daley and Nick Diaz are two of the rare "prize fighters" out there. They dont consider them selves mixed martial artisits or athletes. They just want to scrap and get paid!! What ever your oppinion of them is personally, you have to admit it makes for some great watching!!

    Steroid cheats are far worse IMO. Daley let his emotions get the better of him briefly after provocation by Kos. Completely different circumstances to someone who calmy decides to cheat and lie and hide the facts and only come clean when they are rumbled.

    @Anton

    you should have added ''if he ever wants fight in the UFC again'' to the title of your article. I think we can all agree that UFC and SF will merge eventually and super title fights are more than likely, if Daley can win and hold to the title he'll put Dana in an impossible position when that day finally comes.

    Saying that Daley will never fight in the UFC is a joke imo. There's plenty of cheap shots in any kind of sport. Daley apologized, what 95% of Soccer players (for instance) don't do.

    Again.. he should get a heavy punishment for what he done. And in my opinion, he already got it.

    But.. and it's a big "but" (not butt!). UFC is a private business. And that's basically ends any type of discussion.

    i think diaz is way too well rounded for daley,if diaz gets him down daley will tap like a w**re within 30 seconds but if daley catches diaz as sweet as he can diaz will be seeing tweety bird flying around his f**k ugly curls.looking forward to this fight would be a much better fight though if daley was slightly more well rounded and had good bjj or even wrestling cause these two lads are tough as f**k,especially as i cant see this fight lasting the 5 rounds, diaz to tap daley in first or second round if he doesn i will chew my own knob off ha ha enjoy this fight every1

    Diaz will destroy daley on the ground for sure but can he take daley down?

    Taking people down is not his strongest point and if daley can keep it standing im sure he will catch em and then it will be sweet dreams.

    I mean diaz allways takes some punches early in the fight and i dont think he can take daleys
