Rogers will fight Overeem for the Strikeforce Heavyweight Title, after all

Canadian sports commentator Mauro Ranallo revealed in his radio show that the current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem (who was also on the show) will fight Brett Rogers for the title, despite the early rumors about the non-title fight between the two.

Brett Rogers was knocked out in his last fight against "The Last Emperor" Fedor Emelianenko in November, which makes many people to wonder why "The Grim" is awarded a title shot against Overeem, instead of Fedor. Overeem's fight against Rogers on May 15th Strikeforce card will be his first return to the United States, since winning the title against Paul Buentello at Strikeforce: Four Men Enter, One Man Survives on November 16th, 2007.

Renallo also interviewed the CBS Vice President of Programming Kelly Kahl, who discussed various issues including the dispute between M-1 Global and Strikeforce, Herschel Walker and the remaining bouts on Strikeforce on CBS fight card.

Tune in for the 9:10 minute mark

Are guys that dumb that you cannot see that they are just trying to give themselves some longevity?! If the Overeeem vs Fedor fight happens straight away, there will be no more intriguing fights left in that division apart from the rematch with Fedor and Rogers. I agree that they have made themselves look like asses for the way they have gone about things but they simply do not have the strength in depth that the UFC have in their pool of fighters....

THIS IS A NON-TITLE FIGHT! Whoever wrote this article has misreported the information...Fedor and his camp don't believe Overreem is a worthy fighter (mainly because of the alleged use of steroids) and want him to test clean and go through Roger first before fighting the emperor...Brett VS Overreem is an exciting match up and will certainly appeal to a large number of mma fans...

This doesnt make any sense.... Rogers got demolished by Emilianenko and his reward is a title fight? Dont get me wrong id rather see Rogers the champ rather than that pussy Overeem... But still...... WTF?

i know it's stupid, but i think thats what they want, cuz fedor ain't going to fight overeem, so its up to brett rogers to destroy him. then fedor will fight rogers for the belt....

I love how fedor shows no opinion or emoition towards anything.. but one day he is going to switch.. kill someone in the cage.. kill the ref... and go on a rampage... no one can keep emotion in for that long, one day he will kill someone lol

As stupid and insane as this decision is, the fight will never happen. Overoid will not pee clean so he will not fight. But wow does this look bad for Strikeforce. Really bad.

SF should have just stripped Overeem of the title. he isn't even a top 10 HW. maybe SF is testing Overeem with Rogers, a win over Rogers will get Overeem into the top 10 HW rankings. a lose to Rogers will rid us of Overeem, at least in the HW division and solidify Rogers as a top level competitor. Not to mention that if Rogers wins he will have a striking victory over a much more notable striker.

This is extremely poor planning on Strikeforce's part. Add to that that Overeem pretty much fights who & when he wants and you end up with a mess like this.

M-1/Finkelstein wouldnt allow Fedor to fight Overeem for some reason. . . maybe they want him to clean up on roids first.

its funny how everyone can accept maia vs silva even though maia got his ass knocked out in a fight that wasn't even competitive like fedor vs rogers. but its an outrage and laughing stock when strike force does it.

But Main got taken out by a dude that Sonnen took out and Maia killed Sonnen. So it all evens itself out. And he did win his last fight. Unlike Rogers. And Silva is actually a reigning, defending champion, not a roided out bitch hiding in another country for several years. So basically, there are no similarities. Hence the outrage.

Fedor was given first option to have a fight overeem, however m1 said they don't care for the title.. "fedor is above these things" and that they would fight overeem if he took a drug test. Personally I don't care, Fedor is the #1 hw champion having a strikeforce title doesn't really matter.. the only title that matters is the WAMMA title simply because the best fighter has it, and if anyone who beats the best deserves that title.

It is bazaar that Overeem has been allowed to hold on to the title for so long. It was only one fight if I'm right.

I watched him in the K1 GP in December & he was huge. He has awesome power & his speed is not bad. But other than stand up he's got nothing to offer in MMA. He should stick to K1 & the like as that's all he can use.

i think the Japanese are very relaxed about substance abuse so I'm sure that's why he opted for K1. If he pulls out of this match or gets an injury he should be stripped of the title. If that happens you'll never see him back in Strikeforce, well not if the event is in the US!

He has put on a huge amount of muscle in a small period of time. I'm sure that's not possible by using nutrition, good diet & weights!

If he is juiced up & he comes off I bet he'd lose about 20-30Lbs very quickly as you tend to retain a lot of fluid on most of the stuff guys use to gain weight & pump up!

That will be the big tell tale sign if he fights & tests clean. He'll probably look smaller & leaner. What does he weigh now? 250-260Lbs?
