Paul Daley not impressed with Diaz: I will knock him out
Posted on January 31, 2011, 09:32 PM by Joey Santosus"I hit unlike any other welterweight in MMA. I will knock Diaz out. I will knock him out."
"Nick doesn't have great wrestling. Most of his takedowns come from the clinch or he's dropping guys with bodyshots, but that ain't gonna happen with me. Yeah he's fast but he's not explosive like me when it comes to MMA. He's got great conditioning, yeah, but what happens when I'm moving three or four times as fast as anybody he's fought in the past? How's he going to deal with that? - For complete interview, visit MMAFighting.com
Following his successful title defense against Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos Saturday night, Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz made it clear at the post-fight press conference that he was "not really impressed with Paul Daley as a mixed martial artist." Well, it appears the feeling is mutual.
According to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, Daley was offered a match-up with Diaz ahead of Santos, however the British slugger elected to "risk" his shot by taking a fight with the United Kingdom-based organization BAMMA. Daley will face Yuya Shirai at BAMMA 5 on February 26th at the Manchester Evening News Arena for the promotion's vacant welterweight title. Should he win that fight, Daley will likely be next in line to face Diaz, who is currently enjoying a nine fight win streak.

Well, considering Diaz wanted Daley for his most recent fight but Daley did NOT want the fight pretty much says a lot of what Daley thinks of his own fight game and abilities at any given time.
Daley told Coker he needed to shake of some rust and wanted at least another fighter before fighting DIaz.
I REALLY hope Daley wins this next Bamma fight because the schooling Diaz is going to put on him will be classic. Not to mention reading all the Diaz haters moaning and groaning about it when it goes down...haha
Diaz can beat Daley but not standing. if he decides to trade with Daley there is only one outcome to that with a quick KO of Diaz. if he decides to take the fight to the ground we all know Daley will get owned.
lol if daley hit diaz as much as i like diaz it will be a short night.
Hello Swamprat,
You seem to have a much deeper knowledge of the psychology behind the thinking of Paul Daley and his team. Perhaps you could support your points with specific facts,
1. When you say Paul did not want the fight, don't you mean Paul Daley acknowledged he was not ready for the fight?
2. Because we agree this is true, then what does that say differently about what Daley thinks of his fight game and abilities at any given time? (Your conclusion is not a conclusion now, just an opinion)
3. How are you able to accurately determine "pretty much" what Paul Daley thinks of his fight game?
4. What specifically does he think, (perhaps you know him personally, I may be wrong).
5. What specifically does it mean, "abilities at any given time"?
- If you dont know that what you are writing utter nonsense, and it is nonesense swampprat, because you are simply using your own mental framework to make assumptions as to how someone else would think and be.
You support my point yourself with the statement below,
"Daley told Coker he needed to shake of some rust and wanted at least another fighter before fighting DIaz". - Please argue that this doesn't contradict your initial point.
I suggest you support your points with evidence instead of supposition.
Best regards,
Odesa
daley is all ways cryn about sum thing! this huy is a poor sport! yes he has a decent ko power for a welter weight! but "diaz" ! daley ! gots lasting long power fot 5 rounds ! i bet you would not last till 5 th round! diaz would do the same! as he always does! stay out of daleys reach come counter with his annoying jabs! daley will eats like 60 to 100 in hais face! than diaz just picks him apart! daley dont want too get on the ground with diaz because he will lose! also diaz can hit pretty hard his self ! see what he done to lawler!
@odesahitman, It seems odesa, that you like living in a state of confusion. There's no need making a confusing mess out of simple facts.
Daley ( a ranked fighter) was offered a fight against SF Welterweight champion Nick Diaz for the title by Scott Coker and Diaz's camp ( Cesar Gracie). Daley did NOT want to fight him.
....end of discussion!
I refer you to your earlier post,
Daley told Coker he needed to shake of some rust and wanted at least another fighter before fighting DIaz.
Diaz is a quality fighter, if you are an expert of Couch Fu then expect you will not appreciate the necessity to get used to being hit in a, "live environment"... A real fight is very different to hard practice. It would not be practical to fight an equal or superior opponent without a warm up fight.
I suggest you make it clear that your comments are not based on experience but rather reflect your unqualified opinion.
Lastly, isn't interesting that you chose to bye pass the questions proposed without acknowledging their value in helping you develop a better basis for opinion.
Regardless of our disagreement I wish you well as you learn about the art of fighting.
Regards,
Odesa
lol, listen arm chair warrior. I have many yearsof wrestling and fighting background. MANY
Ok, I will leave it there . I think I spent WAY too much with an arm chair warrior kid named "hitman" LMAO
I agree. I saw the fight, I am not sure what was going through Diaz's mind during the fight. Did he purposely eat all those leg kicks (to tire out Cyborg) or did he not have any movement/evasive strategy? If he plans on doing the same strategy (either way) he'll get KOed. Unless, Daley makes the same mistake as Cyborg did and take him the ground.
thats what always happens, people thought zaromskis had better stand up than diaz, people thought kj had better standup than diaz, not to mention lawler etc..
Diaz can own anyone standing, even daley. Especially in a 5 round fight..
diaz: flying armbar
Daley and his buddy KingMo have big mouths. Daley said he could knockout Koscheck too....well that didnt happen but at least he got a halfway decent shot after the fight ended. How will Daley deal with the taunting after 3 rounds? I bet he loses confidence and gets owned.
Be sure not to puss out Daley and sign for that fight next time you see it in writing.
Why is King Mo his buddy?.....lol
That comment was WEAK...
Its because the first time I saw Daley talk trash he was with KingMo in a hotel lobby both running their mouths and disrespecting.
Your knowledge of MMA is WEAK.
Anything else you would like to add that might be correct for a change?
KJ was not the same in the second fight. There was a reason so many were picking KJ to win by dynamic striking. In their first fight Diaz could do nothing against KJ and it looked like a complete mismatch for Diaz. Kj looked slimmer and more toned at that time though and lately he's been looking bulky and slower. That was the real difference. Diaz was owned in the striking dept in their first fight for sure.
The first fight was too short and Nick still looked fresh after the stoppage.
It was too short but he was getting stopped one way or another with the way it was going. KJ is a better striker generally than Diaz and Daley too as much as I dislike him. Diaz is up there for striking but not the top.
Man everyones stealing the GSP quote.
GSP: Matt, I'm not impressed by your performance
Dana White: I'm not impressed by Anderson's performance
Nick Diaz: I'm not impressed by Daley and Woodley
Paul Daley: Not impressed with Diaz
Simon Cowell: Your singing is terrible, im not impressed by your performance.
BobTheBuilder: I'm not impressed by your post
That is too many people
I don't see Daley winning. Diaz will sub him.
I don't know why you're getting weaked because you couldn't be more right. Diaz will sub him within the first two minutes. Daley has poor takedown defense and his ground game is awful. See Daley vs Shields.
daley punched shields head in for half that fight, and looking a class above in the process. Obviously it was shileds who was the class above on the ground but that fight went passed the first round, alot longer than 2 minutes
Thats funny I remember Shields grabbing a jumping guillotine early on and ending it fast.
Daley would blast Nick Diaz into 2012,Daley is like 20xs more technical of a striker has like? 20xs the speed/explosiveness
Nick Diaz is nowhere as good of a wrestler as Shields or Koscheck,so I dont see him taking Daley to the ground
Mayham Miller,GSP and Paul Daley would reck Diaz in my oppion
LOL. It's funny how every body seems to underestimate Diaz and count him down before every fight... Daley couldn't do shit against Masvidal (a fight that I think he lost BTW) and we all know diaz will push him against the cage, take him down and sub him.
Come on, Diaz has fought some great stand-up fighters and never got KO... Nick beat guys like Lawler, Noons, Cyborg, Scott Smith and Gomi STANDING UP ! Now I know Daley is probably better than those guys but he ain't got good wrestling...
@PassDaLiqqahNiqqah, I love hater comments like this. Let's put things in perspective here for a minute.
Most haters here are commenting that Diaz's stand up isn't as good as Daley's. They say Daley will knock Diaz into the next year.
What if ...just what if...Diaz schools Daley or God forbid, knocks him the F*ck out?
Let me show you how things would then shake out. Kos basically ran from Daley to win on scoring ( he admitted this). Daley still held his own in that fight considering how bad it was.
If/WHEN Nick finishes Daley, haters would have no choice but to admit that Nick would clearly be at the top of the Welterweight division in all of MMA.
This is why Diaz already wanted this fight with Daley. He often says he only wants to fight guys with names, and ranking above himself.
Too bad Daley p*ssied out of this most recent fight. The whole Welterweight picture would have been almost complete.
That's ok, because it will only bring more hype down the road IF they do meet.
First Daley will need to win his upcoming Bamma fight in Feb.....and if he doesn't win that? Well, I will just save those words for another day!
...but he should right? Daley is one of the best right?.... :)
Diaz could beat Daley ten times but he will never be close to being comparable with GSP.
plus nick diaz has an enormous reach.
NO he beat Masvidal, gomi nearly ko'd Diaz, daley has more power than gomi
that fight better happen, cause the trash talk is gonna be ridiculous.
not to mention the stare down!!!
Its funny in this thread, if you see weak clicks its from Diaz haters and they know who they are hahahha....keep clickin chicken
Its gonna be good. Its funny how these wrestlers act like they can't be taken down. Eventhough Diaz rarely tries to take people down anymore. They act like wrestling is the only way to take someone down. They must of never heard of Judo and I doubt they are experts at trips and throws Judo does, that 90% of BJJ guys use.
In Diaz's last fight, he walked into kicks and punches, daring Cyborg to "hit him again'. If he does that with Daley, it's lights out time.
Daley is a turtle on his back on the ground, so if he gets taken down--Daley is poned.
The problem is that Diaz will probably not stick to a gameplan. Diaz looks at fights as personal, and he loves to challenge opponents in their strongest area to prove a point.
I would certainly be more excited about a Diaz vs. Daley fight than I was about the Diaz vs. Cyborg.
This fight will be exactly like the Koscheck fight. The only difference is Nick will finish Daley on the ground.
Hey Daley, can you say "One Dimensional"?
no daley, you will get your arm broken
I ThiNK it WiLL BE A GREAt ONE, I ThiNK DAiLEY WiLL BRiNG Out A WhoLE NEW DiAz, DAiLEY iS DANGERoUS AS WELL iS DiAz, I SAY iF DiAz StANDz HE WiLL BE FiNiShED UNLESS HE CAN PiCC APARt DAiLEYz LEGz, I SEE DiAz CLiNChiNG TRip TAKEDoWN AND SuB ViCtoRY FiRSt OR SECoND RouND iF Not DAiLEY FiRSt RouND KNoCC-Out. KEEPiNG it REAL CrAzyBK64
Diaz may not be as powerful of a striker as Daley but i believe he can out strike him common he's been training with Andre Ward and Daley although he is explosive we saw in the Masvidal fight that he is not very technical just a hard hitter
he's got great standup but so does diaz and daley's ground game isn't even in the same universe as diaz's!
Daley is a joke... Koscheck raped him for three rounds dogie style... Daley's ground game is worst then Kongo's...Nick Diaz will destroy this clown wherever the fight goes...
Too bad you cant be at their after party so they could all KO you for desert
thats bullshit, how can he say he aint impressed with diaz? just cuz he hits harder dont mean he cant get his shit split by nick, he's scared cuz nicks a beast on the ground and he wont do what coz did, nick will finish u paul!
Nick Diaz is a arrogant fighter in the ring. He gets in your face and taunts you and by doing so he takes a few hits. To put it simple; to hit you, Diaz takes a few hits. I can see this happening in their fight. Diaz will taunt Daley on his feet, get in close and take a strike to get a few strikes in to taunt some more. But Diaz will be in wonderland after the first couple hits Daley lands. No question.
Daley would get his ass handed to him against Diaz. He made black belts in bjj look like white belts, how will he make a "purple belt" in Daley look. Diaz also has a granite chin, so even if Daley connected, it's not necessarily lights out.
Nick will pick Daley apart on the standup, staying just out of reach and evading any solid connects by Daley. Any punchs that do land will just make Nick meaner. If Nick WANTS to take him to the ground, HE'S GONNA CHEW DALEY UP AND SPIT HIM OUT! The only chance Daley has to knock Diaz out is ANOTHER CHICKENSHIT SUCKER PUNCH WHEN HIS BACK IS TURNED!!! See ya at the fight!
