Nick Diaz retains his title after defeating KJ Noons via Unanimous Decision

Nick Diaz and KJ Noons delivered one of the best performances in the history of Mixed Martial Arts, going on a five rounds of war for the Strikeforce Welterweight Title.

KJ Noons was successful in his mission to eliminated Nick Diaz' ground game advantage, forcing his will by keeping the fight strictly on the feet. But Noons was surprised by cautious and relaxed Nick Diaz, who picked his shots and managed to hurt his opponent on various occasions. KJ Noons mainly concentrating on body shots, as Diaz' four-inch reach advantage gave Noons only a little chance to deliver a knockout blow.

Noons landed more strikes than Diaz', but it was the Cesar Gracie prodigy who managed to deliver the visibly more powerful shots in this fight. Noons clearly won the second round, cutting Nick Diaz in the process, but was unable to keep his momentum and win the fight.

In the end, Diaz is a 48-47, 49-47, 49-46 winner, defending his Strikeforce Welterweight for the first time, since beating up Marius Zromskis at Strikeforce: Miami. Nick Diaz improved his MMA record to 23-7, and more than that, he clearly solidified his place as a Top 5 Welterweight in the World.

It was great to see Diaz out box Noons, apart from Miller vs Diaz, I see no other fight that intrigues me, hopefully Diaz goes to the UFC soon

I don't think he really out-boxed Noons. The stats at the end of the fight told a different story. More punches and low-kicks landed by Noons. The fight could have about gone either way depending on the judges that night.

get out of here, I had Diaz 4-1. Denial its a terrible thing.

Ninja and I both said Diaz would win and improved the most since their last fight.

@SumHo, well 99% of that fight was on there feet and Diaz won the decision, so I consider that out-boxing Noons because he beat him standing up for 5 rounds

I dont think the Judges counted any of Noon's body shots. If this wasnt a title fight - it would of been at least a slip decision.

Rofl it was a 3rounds-2rounds decision. It wasn't decisive by any means... I'm not hating but it sure wasn't all that "awesome"

i know click weak- but truthfully i thought that fight was kinda boring and did more to expose the fighters weakness, than it really displayed their greatness. in other words to quote GSP" I am not impressed with your preformance"

    GSP would eat Diaz alive!!!!

I was disappointed, i thought that the boxing that was displayed was really poor, on both counts.

Noons is supposed to be among the best strikers in MMA??!

Hell no, there is no way he is that good!!!!

Is punches weren't exactly fast and crisp, he's head movement and footwork werent that good either. He's combinantions were ok, but he loads up too much. You should finish your combination with a power shot, and let the lighter faster punches open up his defenses.

Although i'm sure he has some power.

Theres plenty of guys that would outstrike him.

I'm tired of them hyping up fighters and saying "he's among the best strikers in MMA" just because he has fought some pro-boxing or kick-boxing matches.

That doesn't mean that he was a good boxers/kickboxer, just as all MMA fighters arent worldclass either. As a boxer/kickboxer KJ Noons would be medium class at best, never in the near vicinity of the top tier boxers and he should stay away from the top-strikers in the MMA game too.

Diaz boxing wasn't that good either, and his takedowns is a apsect of the game he really needs to work on together with his striking

    .

There is a reason why they are in Strikeforce and not in the UFC, although there a couple of guys in SF that really could make it big in the UFC.

GSP would molest him like a little girl standing OR on bitchslap the f#ck out of him on the ground.

He's at another level than Diaz, and he's bjj wouldnt help him that much either. He's not better than BJ and BJ couldn make it happen on the ground either.

    Just my 2cents.

Noons obviously took 2nd, I thought he probably did enough in the 5th aswell. But other than that Diaz kept him at distance pretty well.

What is up with the stats at the end of the fight on Strikeforce? They said that Noons landed way more strikes (Over 100+ more than diaz), and that Noons landed over 300 (Throwing more than 500). But check Fight Metric : http://blog.fightmetric.com/2010/10/diaz-vs-noons-ii-fightmetric-report.html

The numbers aren't even close to that.

They announced just before the show ended that Compustrike was backward. Diaz outstruck Noons.

If they are considering putting him in with middleweights, Ide rather see him fight Jacare or rematch Lawler than see him in with Mayhem.

mma420 it's possible but I doubt it. Have to expect it someday though. One might suggest Nick to be somewhat of a failure if Nate didn't eventually surpass him.

"One of the best performances in the history of mixed martial arts".

Sorry, no. Was a decent fight sure, but thats about it. Edgar's performance against BJ was one of the best, as are some of GSP's, Aldo's and others i could mention worthy os the term best. But this fight - no. Good but not great.

It looks like Nick Diaz has broken Noons jaw. Noons also suffered a broken left hand. Do your own search for more details.

as someone has said the fact that the judges negated KJ Noon's body shots (which were PERFECT) is why on paper KJ won but in actuality Nick won...mma judging is to blame but this fight goes back to show you that it's not simply about TDs

    @UrHype.

Of course, anybody can get knocked out.

But Diaz isnt exactly a knockout artist by definition but anybody can get ko'd by a perfectly times shot. It doesn't even have to be that hard if it hits just right, people have been knocked out by jabs...

But GSP hasn't been kocked out since the ko by Serra, and he has fought some really good strikers since then, Alves and Hardy. Who both have way better striking than either Noons or Diaz.

But by my opinion Diaz is way overrated, his standup isn't on par and neither is his wrestling. But his bjj is good that we know, but he's no Damian Maia on the ground either. Noons was a disappointment too.

In my opinion Strikeforce plays in a lower league than the UFC, although as i said there are some fighters there that really would be an asset to the UFC.

And i'm not a UFC nuthugger either, i preferred Pride but since those days are over i take what i can get: UFC, WEC, Strikeforce, M1, and Dream. And i think the highest quality of fighters are in the UFC right now, but it might change.
