Strikeforce have officially confirmed that Mike Kyle will step up to replace the injured Valentijn Overeem, facing Antonio Silva this Saturday at Strikeforce: St. Louis. Mike Kyle recently moved down to Light Heavyweight, going 3-0 by defeating Tony Lopez, Abongo Humphrey and Steve Oliver. Kyle weighed 219 pounds for his last Strikeforce fight as a Heavyweight, where he lost to Fabricio Werdum via a Guillotine Choke in Round 1.

Official Strikeforce Press Release:

Streaking STRIKEFORCE star Mike "Mak'' Kyle (18-7) will replace the injured Valentijn Overeem and take on former heavyweight world champion Antonio "Big Foot'' Silva (14-2) of Coconut Creek, Fla., by way of Brazil, in one of the featured televised fights on STRIKEFORCE: Henderson vs. Babalu this Saturday, Dec. 4, at Scottrade Center in St. Louis, live on SHOWTIME® (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).

The 6-foot-3, 30-year-old Kyle, of San Jose, Calif., has gone 5-0 with one No Contest since losing to Fedor conqueror, Fabricio Werdum, on Aug. 15, 2009. In his last start, Kyle scored a first-round TKO (punches) over Stephen Oliver on Nov. 5.

Since April 2008, Kyle is 8-1 with one NC. One of the talented nine-year pro's most significant triumphs came on a second-round TKO (punches) over current STRIKEFORCE Light Heavyweight Champion Rafael "Feijao'' Cavalcante in June 2009.

In his last appearance for STRIKEFORCE on SHOWTIME, Kyle submitted (rear-naked choke) Ron "Abongo'' Humphrey during a STRIKEFORCE Challengers event last July 23.

The 6-foot-4, 31-year-old Silva has won seven of his last eight, including a decisive, lopsided decision over former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski in his most recent outing last May 15.

Silva's lone loss since December 2006 came when he was narrowly outpointed in a tight fight by fellow Brazilian, Werdum, on Nov.7, 2009.

Really..? Interesting..? (Kyle 1-2-1 in Strikefore, fought some other nobody's) Preliminary fight in the UFC, same as Valentijn Overeem..

This is the Co-Main event.. I like Strikeforce, but no thanks, TUF 12 Final card is so much better.

Agreed. Mike Kyle is 9-1 in his last 10 fights... Losing only to Werdum and knocking out Rafael Cavalcante among others. Should be interesting to see how he does back up at Heavyweight, Strikeforce's most talent rich division.

HW SF's most talent rich division? If that is true it isn't by much. They are starting to put together some pretty stacked divisions in general. At LHW they have Cavalcante, Lawal, Mousasi, Hendo, Gracie, Sobral, etc. At MW they have Jacare, Lawler, Meyhem, Le, Kennedy, Lindland, etc. At WW they have Diaz, Santos, Zaromskis, Spiritwolf, Bowling, Daley, etc. and at LW they have Melendez, Noons, JZ, Thompson, Evangelista, Couture (new but exciting), etc. Their organization could use more depth but all of their divisions are pretty stacked considering the low population.

kyle loses then gets to fight fedor for the strikeforce HW title

coker forgets that fedor does not hold the strikeforce HW title

coker promises winner of kyle and fedor a shot at the strikeforce HW title

fedor wins but kyle gets shot at strikeforce HW title due to contractual issues with m-1

overeem hopes coker remembers that HE holds the strikeforce HW title

coker does not remember, assumes werdum has it because he beat fedor

brett rogers gets another shot at the strikeforce HW title

ninja.... i would opt for a submission victory for big foot...... reason being - werdum submitted mr. kyle in 84 seconds...... i know they're not the same fighters but kyle has shown weaknesses on the ground (throughout his career) and big foot has great submissions as well as ko power..... but kyle is (known) as a stand up fighter..... so who knows......just a suggestion though.....

Damn this should be good I dont think it will go to decision Kyle has a big fight with a giant ahead of him

35%Kyle by tko in round 1 or 2

    50%Siva by sub in round 2or 3

10%Silva by tko in round 1 or 2

    4%Silva by decision

    1%Kyle be decision

Props to Mike, the guy is a warrior and it's great that we'll see Big Foot fighting! I've been on his ish for a while and it's great that he'll be getting some more exposure! I'd LOVE to see him rematch Werdum :(

with all these alleged world-level heavies

the best coker could do was to pull in a lightheavy?

just more of SF/Coker's bush league performance

where are Rogers Johnson, Arlovski, Barnett?

    even Fedor?

Silva will win but so what?

does that get him a title shot?

or a half year or more waiting for Werdum or Fedor?

or why not Cormier instead of putting his big butt in Challengers?
