UFC veteran "The Dean of Mean" Keith Jardine will make his promotional debut when he meets Gegard Mousasi at Strikeforce San Diego.

Strikeforce officials confirmed the match-up during the Strikeforce Challengers 15 broadcast Friday night.

Mousasi was originally set to face Mike Kyle on the April 9th card, but a broken hand suffered during training forced Kyle to withdraw just a week ahead of the bout.

Following his time on season two of The Ultimate Fighter, Jardine (17-9-1) put together a respectable 6-3 mark with the UFC before a four fight losing streak resulted in his release last June.  The Jackson's MMA product went on to lose a fifth consecutive bout under the Shark Fights banner before bouncing back with victories over Francisco France and Aron Lofton with smaller MMA promotions.

Mousasi (30-3-1), meanwhile, had his 15-fight winning streak snapped last April when he lost the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight title to Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal via unanimous decision.  In the time since he has went 2-0, securing first round submission victories over both Jake O'Brien and Tatsuya Mizuno to win the DREAM Light Heavyweight Grand Prix.

Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley is set to take place April 9th from the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California.  The stacked card will be headlined by a Welterweight title clash between division Champion Nick Diaz and challenger Paul "Semtex" Daley, while Lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez goes head to head with Japanese stand-out Tatsuya Kawajiri in the co-main event.

I like it...Jardine always comes to fight, never a boring match with him in it and its better than the alternative of not seeing Mousasi fight

are you nuts, jardine always come to fight? Travis Wiuff knocked him out 6 seconds into fight, Houston Alexander 48 sec into the fight,Wanderlei Silva 36 sec into the fight,Thiago Silva 1 min 35 sec into fight, wrestler Ryan Bader KO him, come on when you say a fighter comes to fight he's a brawler not a egg cased in a glass jar

@Enforcer Ya hes been KO'd alot but hes never in a boring fights, always puts it all on the line and sometimes things dont go his way....as for a wrestler like Bader KO'ing him thats not a big deal, wrestlers are known for having one punch KO power just look at Carwin and Hendo and hes had Houston Alexander in big trouble b4 he got caught and getting KO'd by Wand and Silva isnt that big of a deal either seeing that they are two of the most ruthless fighters in MMA history

probably a bad fight for jardine but he is always willing to go in there against top guys. really would like to see him get some more small fights instead of jumping back in the shark tank.

    @post

He has has two fights since leaving the UFC he lost to trevor Prangley and then fought someone else in a debacle of an event somewhere else can't remember who he fought or where he was but I remember Sherdog covering the fight. I think it's a good fight for both guys to be honest and for the fans both guys like to stand and trade.

i know but jardine is one of my favorite fighters and i hate to see him lose but win or lose he put on a show which is why i like him. probaly a tougher fight for moussasi than kyle was and if he wins it would be great for his career.

I think so. I'm assuming he hasn't had a nice payday since he left the UFC.

A huge fight on such short notice for Jardine may not be the smartest decision he has ever made, however it's still MMA so anything is possible.

Risky, yet is a good opportunity for Jardine to get back to relevancy against a top 10 ranked opponent like Mousasi.

I do think Mousasi takes this though

I don't see Jardine winning but I also don't see him getting knocked out. I hope his striking and unorthodox rhythm will be enough for him to hold his own because I'd hate to see anything ugly happen to him. But then again, I want Mousasi to get his title back...

surely keith deserves at least a 2-3 fight strikeforce fight contract for stepping up at late notice to fight a great fighter like Mousasi, hopefully he can get back to winning ways and work his way back up the ranks

Shut the **** up you whiner, no one doubts the greatness of Mousasi, he just hasn't fought top ten competition in a couple years, and he lost to King Mo, that's going to affect your ranking. If you think he won that fight, you're a moron. But I would agree obviously this is a bad fight for Jardine, he's not going to have a very fun night.

I don't like this fight but it is probably the best they could do on such short notice. I would have preferred Kongo. My pick is Mousasi. I think he will crush Jardine in a stand up battle.

Jardine is enough of a threat to do this, not that i think he will, but what happens if he knocks mousasi out? I mean this could backfire on strikeforce ... will it hurt that divisions credibility or is will jardine be considered relevant again?

mousasi is not all that great he was beat up by king mo who is not all that great to begin with as we seen in his last [removed] won't be surprised if jardine does take the [removed] for those who think mousasi is a great fighter who has he fought that has made him so [removed] fights cans mostly and [removed] he beats hendo, diaz, daley [removed] i will say he is good but he won't be great until he gets to fight the true elite in the [removed] for everybody not giving jardine a chance cause he got ko'ed is a [removed] jardine wins even though he is a can [removed]
