I was just about to say that, regardless of wat you think of DW this is NOT the guy to talk about hindering MMA, obviously 1 fighters mishaps can't really stop the growth of MMA like say the promoter of the biggest company of the sport. BUT he was 1 of the 1rst to get caught using steroids and have a big scandal around it. I personally feel DW does alotta things maybe he shouldn't BUT I also contribute the rise of MMA to him. he's a good business man and sometimes may not do wat we the fans feel is 100% rite BUT at the end of the day we all hafta realize this is a business so there is going to be business moves.

The rise of mma has nothing to do with DW. Look how many fighters that were in other promotions before UFC. Rise of mma in America can be credited to DW, but only in America.

The rise of mma globally is down to technology bringing fights into peoples homes like it never could before and the inevitable rise occurs. From TKO to Cage Rage to Pride to UFC to M1 global to Vale Tudo and others, all have been responsible for the rise of mma along with technology. Why DW gets the credit i don't know, as mma would still be just as vibrant without him given the fighters wanting to fight and the fans wanting to watch it. He is just a promoter that had money behind him.

He deserves credit for the success of the UFC, he has devoted much of his life to it and has been very successful. It can boast the deepest quality of all mma organisations, though that is largely due to pride collapsing. However, he continues to put on great fights and is good at what he does, even though I personally think he is a complete twat for some of the things he has said and done. Someone who derides mma promotions does not help it's rise as it puts negative reflection upon the sport.

Well, these fighters deserve more than just the opportunity to entertain you... The "rise of MMA" equates to more recognition and pay for the fighters, who sacrifice blood, sweat, and tears to succeed in a sport that has just recently taken its initial steps into the mainstream. Like it or not, if it werent for the UFC, when that promotion that you (and I) loved so much, Pride FC, went under, all of those fighters would have been done. It would have been back to day jobs or fighting for next to nothing in underground promotions. Instead they have seen a steady increase in pay (Which is much higher than it used to be whether we think its enough or not), big name sponsorship deals, movie parts, etc etc. This all came with the "rise of MMA."

I really don't know the hole story behind the UFC's aquisition of Pride, and I'm assuming Pride was in big financial trouble if they would let the UFC purchase them, but I wonder where MMA would be right now if Pride still existed. I don't care if it is popular or not, I just care about how much the fighters get paid, but I guess that sorta goes hand in hand.

pride was going bankrupt and there was also many people coming out and admitting that some fights were fixed the judges and the ref's were on the yakuza's payroll. pretty much it collasped because the public found out it was a farce

All I care about is seeing great fights and that the fighters get paid what they deserve. Right now they don't but the sport is young. Promotions that have tried to pay their fighters high wages have end up bankrupt. I still believe the UFC could be paying them more based on how much revenue they generate, but I'm, no financial expert. It is most likely true though that Strikeforce and other promotions are only good for the sport, and a UFC monopoly could be dangerous for the fighters. I must admit I like Cokers approach on this more than Dana's, but I guess its different when your company is the face of a sport.

    OH u guys

I don't think you guys commenting understand how many guys I know in professional MMA take steroids or HGH.

I trained with Brian Foster a couple weeks ago and he takes HGH and so does Matt Hughes for sure I see them take it.

It doesn't bother me personally but you guys don't really seem to have a clue and thats fine but please don't make stats like you guys fight or know. Literally 95% of the Hit Squad take PEDs but they all test clean with loopholes trust me

and the reason I name names is not to rat on the guys but so you know some of the fighters who take them for sure.

they take them for injury and endurance and to entertain so let them

Specifically what have you seen Matt Hughes take?

How did Matt Hughes know to take any banned or illegal substance in front of you instead of in a private space?

    - I assume you must be a friend of Matt Hughes and Brian Foster.

Who specifically do you want to know what someone takes?

What specifically is in it for you to risk a libel suit?

I strongly suggest that you call your Doctor or carer and inform them that your symptoms are re-occuring because what you write doesn't make sense.

I dont really like the way josh here words it but I sometimes feel Danas slowing down the sport.

Its the way it is, but the contract promotion system in place now prevents the best from fighting the best. It boxes out fighters for not cohering to certain rules. It prevents lots. But Dana has built more out of the UFC then MMA has ever seen and in a sense thats been and is great for all of us (fans, fighters, employees). See get great product and get to see some of the top fighters go at it. The fighters are starting to make more and more money. And UFC has been able to grow and grow, making money and providing steady jobs.

Id just like to someday see a more professional system in place for fighters with all the different interests been fairly considered (the fans to). A fighters union would be a great place to start.

Of course dana white is a hidrance to mma, arguing diferent is like saying don king did good for mike tyson or something, he made the UFC what it is, but not mma, if the ufc had gone out we prolly would still have PRIDE i mean MMA the sport was not gonna die because of the UFC, is not all bad but at this point HIDRANCE .. yes indeed

    @MMA

Man I dont know about you all but untill UFC got mma main stream I had to buy my dvd's at a freakin novelty shop just to keep up with the sport. I was watching one back in the day that got shut down by the police. So to say you all would like it better back in the day makes me wonder why? I had to buy all the pride dvd's just to watch them. Now I can turn on the tv and watch mma 24/7 for the most part.

Yes Dana is too much. He is trying to kill the little guys so he is all that is left. Without him tho I'd still be buying dvd's.

Dying sport? Come on! The UFC was a dying company but MMA was doing just fine in Japan and in Brazil. You could argue that he resuscitated interest in the States but that is about it.

Since the zuffa gang were the ones that stopped the previous owners from getting sanctioned in the first place, so they could come in a buy it themselves this doesn't hold much weight. Not to mention, since then dana has done nothing but bash and hurt every MMA promoter and fighter, outside of the ufc. He is pro ufc, not pro MMA.

I actually saw the entire interview with Ariel, and afterward, I ended up feeling more well-disposed towards Barnett.

I really don't know the truth beyond the fact that he tested positive in 3 tests for PEDs over a number of years. He denies taking PEDs which begs the question, why did he test positive? At the time he was tested, the testing began including substances only recently made illegal.

I know Carwin, Sherk, Sonnen, Sylvia, Marquardt, Belfort, Bonnar, Royce Gracie, Torres, Bigfoot Silva, Leben, Shamrock ALL used PEDs at one time or another. I also believe Brock Lesnar and others have taken it.

Should all these fighters be banned for life? It seems to me that Josh Barnett receives more anger from MMA fans than any other fighter who used PEDs.

I am of the opinion that a fighter should do his time on suspension, then if he tests clean after that, do not prevent him from fighting. Think of all the MLB, NBA, NFL offenders who no one seems to hate for so long as they hate Barnett.

Im not saying he took it all the way from the beginning to where it is now but he brought it to the eyes of many people who hadnt seen it, but after that he brought himself into those peoples eyes and people realized what he was, a shameless promoter, yes the fighters made the sport what it is today but he showed that to people and now hes near ruining for those same people. All you have to think is what would MMA be without Fedor or what would it be without Pride FC and you would see a big hole but if you look and say what if Dana White didnt have anything to do with MMA you wouldnt see a very big void.

Dana once said he admired Vince McMahon's work he did for the WWE. He claimed it was genius. Vince made a daily soap out of professional wrestling. Dana will do the same to Mixed Martial Arts.

Barnett is basically saying anyone can Dana's job and he is not needed to push the sport further. Dana is pretty much the reason its taking so long for MMA to be sanctioned in NY. Dana is far from a professional promoter in terms of appearance and how he conducts himself.

The current state of TUF is a reminder of where UFC's vision of "MMA" is going. It's only a matter of time before we see, Ultimate Football Xtreme League.

Those this site really have to do the stupid shit like taking quotes out of context like the rest of the stupid media today? In that interview he made some really valid points and also said that Dana has done a lot for MMA as a sport but that he today is hindrance because he won't allow his fighters fight outside of the UFC.

Now you have to be UFC fanboy or just stupid not to agree with that statement, would it be good for MMA if the winner of this Strikeforce tournament fought Cain? Are you kidding me that would be the biggest MMA fight in history. But it won't happen, and why is that? Dana White's short sightedness.

I agree 100% with everything that Barnett said in that interview and if you don't please put a valid argument for why not and don't just go apeshit about whatever Barnett did or didn't do.

Also to say that Affliction folded because of barnett is just shear ignorance. What it Barnett had gotten injured instead? Affliction would still have folded and would it have been his fault then as well?

i agree danas a scared bitch, he likes that none of his fighters can fight anywhere else, its like since dana says fedors afraid of ufc and losing though he wouldn't let his top fighter fight in a promotion deal with strikeforce especially if SF's HW is fedor, because not only was dana wrong about fedor this whole time, but he knows his top HW would lose to him thus doesn't want him to fight. he likes being able to call his HW title matches for baddest man on the planet. thats why lesnar was ranked #1 everwhere because they believe danas hype for some reason
