Jake Shields: Maybe Tito Ortiz would like to fight me

Former EliteXC Welterwieght Champion and the reigning Strikeforce Middlewieght Champion, Jake Shields gave another thick hint about his future by challenging the UFC veteran Tito "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Ortiz. Shields did not rule out an option of going up in the weight to make the fight against Ortiz a reality:

"I feel stronger; feel like I'm good at 185. I think can do both still. Why pick one? Maybe I'll fight in 205 too. I'm not saying I'd be the best at 205, but I think I can beat some of these guys that are there. Maybe Tito Ortiz would want to fight me."

Jake Shields has successfully defended his title against the early favorite Dan Henderson, after completely dominating the former Pride Middleweight Champion during five rounds. Shields' fight against Henderson was the last on his Strikeforce contract, with the UFC President Dana White as the long time admirer of his talents. California-native Jake Shields is currently 25-4-1 in his MMA campaign, making his professional at CFF - The Cobra Qualifier in 1999.

it would make for a long boring fight, but still a decent match, tito is not evolving with the sport. hes like my back is 100% but i stilll fight exactly the same as before. blah blah blah saying that tho i dont think jake can handle many other UFC 205 guys other than tito

Tito wont fight any good 205 because hes scare!

he will start taloking shit about coleman again

because he knows hes the only one he can beat!

    just like old shamrock!

but maybe he will take shields , hes super small compare to tito

so maybe wont chiken out since its a former welterweight

tito may think he actually has a chance and fight him

as far as who would win , im not sure tito sucks but hes way bigger than shields

Jake may be getting a big head. I don't think he's been dominant enough yet to even consider moving up to 205. He's certainly on his way though. Beating Hendo the way he did really says a lot.

Jakes natural weight is 170 he needs to stick with that and make sure his chin(what chin?) gets a lil more solid since he wants to go to the UFC strikers like Alves, Sanchez and other strikers in the WW division might be smart and throw a badass knee he seriously needs to get some stand up or he will be VERY predictable

A lot of refs would have stopped it. The way he tensed up, Jake was out cold until he hit the ground. He recovered quickly but that was a classic flash KO.

Jake is good but in all honesty, he beat a Hendo who really showed his age. Does the guy want to call out fighters with little left in the tank now?

And if this fight gets made, get me a pillow.....

It could be a good fight... Also, I think Henderson was showing the effects of dramatic weight cut. He was gassed after one round. Wrestlers usually have no problem with weight cutting, they're used to it, maybe he just overdid it. I don't think his fatigue was age related though.

So funny watching you keep straight who it is you're supposed to bash and who you're supposed to cheer, according to who is in Jokeforce and who isn't.

If Anderson Silva signed with Jokeforce to fight bums today, you'd suddenly be declaring his awesomeness.

I think Shields is just teasing fans and his next promotion, trying to create some buzz to get a better contract with who ever he signs with.

your probably some beer belly redneck who wants to see a street brawl, this guy is grade A Jiu-Jitsu/Wrestler, GSP and him are the only guys who can do it perfect, and shields took up to 5 clean shots from the heaviest hitter in the MW division and then dominated him for 4 rounds... GSP was knocked out by matt serra

so after TUF 11, they wont have a battle of the coaches.

They'll have the battle of a coach on one team and the assistant coach on the other? better than nothing i suppose

i would like to see him go to UFC and fight GSP for the belt eventually.... i know it would be boring as hell, but i think Jake shields might be the only guy who would be able to beat GSP at his own game. To me it would be highly entertaining to watch a grappling expo like that.

I like how fighters keep calling out guys from other organizations. It gets the fans going and if there is a big enough demand, we might see these organizations figure it out.

Jake is an extremely boring fighter to watch and lacks skill. Dan was as stiff as a board from back injury and still lasted 5 rounds. To say he dominated is just a stupid remark and the author of this article needs a punch in the face from Hendo.
