One of the most decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experts in Mixed Martial Arts, Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza will return to Strikeforce after submitting the veteran Matt Lindland in December. Jacare is currently 11-2 in his MMA career, will face a tough challenge against the knockout artist Joey "Smokin" Villasenor, who is training at the Greg Jackson's Academy and holds an impressive record of 12 knockouts and 10 submissions out of his 27 career victories.

The fight will probably determine who will challenge Jake Shields (or not) for the Strikeforce Middleweight title.

Jacare Souza def. Joey Villasenor
via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Round 1:

Jacare has an early cage control, measuring his distance from Joey Villasenor. Souza is shooting for the takedown, but Villasenor manages to sprawl. Clinch at the cage, but Souza manages to get a quick takedown. This is an exact position where the BJJ legend wants to be. Souza is in half-guard here, punishing Villasenor with ground and pound. Full Mount now, and Joey Villasenor looks in a “Smokin” trouble.  Impressive ground and pound by the Brazilian, but Villasenos somehow manages to escape. The clinch at the fence again, with Jacare Souza delivering powerful knees to Villasenor’s body. Souza takes it to the ground again, delivering some thunders on Joey Villasenor from the top. Jacare Souza’s aggressiveness is second to none in that fight! Villasenor manages to escape for a second, but Souza takes him to the ground again. The Brazilian is looking for an armbar here, but Villasenor escapes. First round ends. Jacare Souza has impressed me in that Round! Joey Villasenor did nothing to trouble the Brazilian, who gets the 10-8 score.

Round 2:

Joey Villasenor has to find a solution for Souza’s aggressive approach. Jacare moves away now, tempting Villasenor to come forward. The Brazilian gets another takedown, and moves to the half guard. Villasenor manages to stand-up again, sprawling Souza’s second takedown attempt. Despite the sprawl, Souza manages to take the fight to the ground again moving to the half-guard. Another escape by Villasenor, and Jacare Souza might wonder why he is unable to keep his possession on the ground. Joey Villasenor is moving forward here, trying to set his stand-up game with jabs and a few hooks, but the Greg Jackson product looks very tired here. Jacare sees an opening, and he manages to get another takedown to his record. Souza works his ground and pound here, but Villasenor pushes him back to the feet. Not for too long, as Jacare scores another takedown. Second Round ends. It was a much better round for Joey Villasenor, but Jacare Souza will surely get the 10-9 score here, mostly due to his easy-looking takedowns.

Round 3:

Final round begins, and Joey Villasenor knows he has to finish the fight before the sound of the bell. Jacare shoots, but Villasenor manages to defend with an impressive sprawl. Villasenor works his striking with a very good right hand, that may be the sign of things to come for Jacare. It looks like Villasenor is finally dictating the pace here, as Jacare Souza is unsuccessful in the second takedown attempt. Well, he is successful at the third. Half-guard again from Jacare, looking to punish Villasenor with ground and pound. Not much action on the ground, with Jacare Souza failing to deliver any considerable damage to Villasenor. The referee stands up the fighters, and Joes Villasenor knows he has to go for the knockout here. He goes out swinging at Jacare Souza with knees and high kicks, but the Brazilian takes it to the ground again. The fight ends, and Souza will get a Unanimous Decision here... and he gets it! An impressive victory for the Brazilian Middleweight. Jacare Souza solidifies his place as one of the top 185-ers in the World.

This is actually a great card they put together, it is going to be hard to top Rua knoking Machida on the very first round tho, I think the only thing that will get more excited than that would be Fedor vs Lesnar... Also looking forward to see Arona back in action.

Man its seems like the commentators are just talking out of their ass.... They kept saying souza was gassed but I think his cardio was pretty decent for the pace he was pushing early on.

Then the ref coulda cost him the fight with that shitty stand up. You shouldnt put him in a dangerous position in the last minute while he is active on the ground wtf? Joey's stand up is his specialty should not have stood them up....Good win for Souza
