I'll be back

I wrote this article after Fedor's defeat against Fabricio Werdum. Thought you guys would like to read some extra material ahead of tonight's fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Antonio Silva.

There's no better subject for summarizing the revolutionary Strikeforce events, than writing about the person who's responsible for this madness - Fedor Emelianenko. The Last Emperor maintained an incredible 28-fight winning streak, beating some of the top opponents in the game. Many people are enjoying arguing about the level of his opponents, but let me tell you this: the most incredible thing about Fedor Emelianenko is that he remained humble, and focused, without letting complacency ruin his game.

Fedor Emelianenko is a special person not only in United States, but in Russia as well. In the age of multi-millionaires, Fedor Emelianenko represents the direct meaning of the popular USSR term "Russian Soul", something that completely ceased to exist in modern Russia. So what is that "Russian soul" everyone is talking about? Russian Soul is a philosophical term that describes the unknown sides of Russian man's mind, which result in a almost radical love for nature, native food, glorification of God and self sacrifical. A man with Russian Soul will always seek for truth, and look for satisfaction of his spiritual needs.

These things are what creates the 'enigma' of Fedor Emelianenko. The Last Emperor's spiritual connection to Christianity helped him to maintain almost inhuman mental condition, which played a massive part in his reign as the #1 Pound for Pound fighter in the World. He is not interested in who he fights. The only thing Fedor is interested in is when he fights, and getting himself prepared for the bout. It doesn't matter if he's fighting Fabricio Werdum or Mickey Mouse - we will always see the same Fedor Emelianenko we've see in Pride a long time ago. While most of the UFC fighters spend their pre-fight preparations talking smack about their opponents, Fedor Emelianenko is not letting anything to disrupt his incredible harmony.

Nothing lasts forever. We can speculate about Fedor being more "commercial" coming to June 26th or his reported involvement in politics that kept him not completely focused... but one thing is true - it was only a question of time until The Last Emperor loses (for real) the first fight in his career. Just like The Last Emperor said himself at the press conference: This loss was a necessary mental shock, that will definitely re-ignite the inner fire inside the Russian MMA machine.

Fedor Emelianenko will now return to Stariy Oskol, with a huge relief off his shoulders. There's no enigma or mystique now. There's just Fedor Emelianenko, who is finally allowed to be called a 'human'. No doubt that Fedor Emelianenko will re-motivate himself, and return in a best possible form. Make no mistake, he will lose again before his retirement, but it will not happen anytime soon. Mentally fit Fedor Emelianenko, with finally something to prove, is the scariest person you can face inside the cage (or ring).

Fedor Emelianenko will be back.

I agree...This is an excellent article that no only does the great Fedor full justice, but also helps uplift his fans...It's extremely disheartening to read all the negative statements and articles written in the wake of Fedor's loss...You find expressions like "poor Fedor," "he's out of the picture (Overeem)," "He needs to update his training and skills (Kenny Florian)"...These many fighters lost many times, however, and know very well that anyone --ANYONE-- can lose at a given time, but like us they too took Fedor for a God, an inhuman/superhuman force that cannot be beaten...Fedor did lose like all the great emperors in human history...Now, he's human, something he always reiterated in his interviews...He lost to a deserving, though no TOP fighter in Werdum because of a technical error, a lapse in judgment...I'm sure he won't commit the same fatal error again.............And YEEEESSSSSS, Fedor will resurrect and conquer again........

What are you talking about? Gsp doesnt lay and pray. He takes the fight to the ground a lot because he is the best at it. He tried to finish Hardy twice, once with the armbar and again with the kimura. He finished Hughes with strikes and with a submission. He killed serra with knees to the body. He completely molested Trigg.

Against Thiago Alves, didn't he injure his groin in the 2nd or 3rd round? So just not getting beat up was a victory! Thiago is a bad man!

Do you know of all the dangers there are outside?! Don't do it! You can get cancer from the sun, a deadly virus from a mosquito bite, splinters! The list goes on and on, it's best you just stay in the house, and get a air purifier, that air contains things that can kill you!

His humility is exactly what Christianity stands for, being confident but not conceded and not judgmental. Letting go of hate and vengefulness. Most people would be surprised that you can find principles of Buddhism in the Bible. People have just lost focus its direction.

since the moment I saw the fight I have this convincing bad feeling that he's going to retire after his next fight, and I don't want him to retire like this, he should fight overeem, and even if he gets knocked the **** out, I don't care, but to fall down like this and never really stand up again is sort of ugly and would not comply with the (maybe glorifying) image I have of him; a warrior with a pure soul, who - like nogueira once said - will fight to the death! can't leave like that, not if he's still in this kind of shape (which he is)

The one thing that I can appreciate the most out of Fedor is the fact that he always tried to finish fights. No matter if it were a jiu jitsu opponent or a top notch striker, Fedor always stood in there or jumped into the guard with almost wreckless abandon and tried to finish the fight. Playing safe would be more efficient in the grand scheme of things but Fedor had the heart and will of a true hero and champion. He would man up to the challenge no matter what. Respect.

i agree, fighters often come up with a game plan where if they are inferior in their ground game will not engage into their opponents ground game and wait til they stand up to fight on their feet. Fedor has never let that affect him especially in his big nog fight where he fought in big nog's guard for most of the match.

yeah, werdum deserved the win. Just liek kenny florian said after the fight, theres no such thing as being caught, its all technical. Getting caught can be easily said with fedors hail mary punches that KTFO opponents. These fighters practice so that when the time comes to use their skillsets, it comes naturally. Fedor is still one of my favorite fighters but he has to earn his rematch since it was a definite defeat (by tap)

    Great article.

I am a huge Fedor fan and I too was wanting him badly to go undefeated in his career. It just won't happen in MMA. Boxing maybe. Not MMA. Too many tangibles and factors that the longer you fight the likely hood of you losing will increase not just because of age, but just any given night it can happen. Just remember the Kentucky Derby favorite doesn't always win the race.

This is the best thing to happen to Fedor. We all know he says he never had pressure, but just like the article said he is "Russian Soul". That right there tells us that he has pride in his country and his spiritual life. I think this is why I love Fedor. He is a true human being that will work harder. This might be the best thing that happened to him because before he goes into the UFC he will be even more hungry. I tell you this because I have been on his side of the fence when coaching. Not only players, but coaches when riding a win streak feel the pressure even though I won't admit it, I have had that pressure from family, fans, and school administrators. You just don't want to let your fans down. He will be back and quite possibly better then ever.

"let me tell you this: the most incredible thing about Fedor Emelianenko is that he remained humble, and focused, without letting complacency ruin his game."

So why aren't any of his idiot fanboys the same? If they were, there wouldn't need to be so many articles trying to defend the guy for the stupidity of his following.

Even in this very article, they talk about his reign as "#1 p4p fighter in the world"...wtf? Then they go on to dodge the criticism of his opponents, but OFCOURSE they mention the record as expected of anyone i just mentioned.

Leave the guy alone, shut the hell up. Back up your opinions on him with something other than his record, if you're cowardly and you're going to run away from intelligent life pointing out how it was amassed. Let the guy be himself and actually be a worthy fan, so that whenever they ask him about his fans he'll be able to do more than blush and smirk.

i think you are describing a certain kind of fan whom are not real fans. Bandwagon fans etc. I think if you talked to somebody who knows mma will tell you why Fedor "WAS' considered the greatest fighter to enter mma, he may not be the best fight, hell he probably isn't the best fight "CURRENTLY' but he was at one point and stayed that way for ten years. It's the nature of any sport, that goes for Jordan vs Bryant or LJ, ali vs Robinson vs Pac Man etc. You just don't know because timelines change. It would be different if they all stayed at their peek and fought each other, but they can't.

I am not colorblind, you do in fact look purple and do in fact resemble a California raisin.... None of which has the slightest bit to do with you starting the same tired argument with a group of members because of their admiration for a fighter... You said, "If something is wrong i'll point it out, i'm not going to suckup to someone because of their rank." What exactly is wrong with Anton's article? Other than the fact that you feel the need to be a rebel? These members were on a Fedor thread, admiring and discussing Fedor... What is "wrong." Its not sucking up either, its RESPECT. You keep insinuating for some childish reason that I do not understand the meaning of ignorance, yet you so aptly demonstrate the term.... Again, you are entitled to your opinion, but how many times do u need to start the same argument? Its hard for an onlooker not to feel as though you are trying to prove something to yourself... Or maybe you are to childish to move past it, but I hate to tell you these guys put up with these same comments from guys just like you daily, so you are going no where....

Now he is even insulting articles written by the man who runs this site.... What an ass. Then don't read it and by all means keep your lame attempts at wit to yourself. I mean, you are entitle to your opinion, but you run to every Fedor related thread and try to incite the same argument amongst his fans... Just get off it already and move on.... They have. You are not going to convince them that they shouldn't or cannot admire their favorite fighter, no matter how irrational you and I or the next man may feel they can get.... So you have made your little self-fulfilling comments and sounded real smart along the way, feel better now??

He's the only heavyweight who fights in 3D, and probably will be for a long time because there just seems to be a propensity for bigger, stronger fighters to rely more on size than skill.

And really, that's part of the reason he can't be number 1 P4P...but you guys think that losing means he sucks so please continue, just don't attack strawmen.

He lost. We know that. We know that he lost. Then are you going to tell these haters that when they post "he sucks" are you going to say shut up to them? We have our opinions just like you that is what this forum is all about.

Oh, and i think people held fedor higher than any fighter not because of his record or his opponents in pride etc. But because he was the last puzzle to be fitted into UFC and he decided or his management said no. It was a bold move but made people question the ways of UFC especially after. And the fact that the greatest fight of all time wasn't with UFC gave people certain hope against monopoly and Dana, but once he lost all the build up has gone and he's no longer the Hero against Dana, he's just a man, and he probably wants it like that ( i don't know, just speaking if i was in his situation, it's a lot of pressure) I'm also not saying thats how it is, maybe subconsciously.

Fedor is a true champion. Humble, calm, and collective after his first lost. Fedor will be back and better that ever. I really hope he makes a deal with the UFC after his next fight, and proves to everyone in the U.S. who the real champion is.

You can't wear the walkout shirt you want to wear.

You can't chose who you would like to fight

You can't fight outside the company

you can't participate in other sports

you can't advertise without it's permission

when you sign you can never leave on a win

they can cut you with no notice even on a win

It is absolutely insane from a contractual point of view to sign with this company unless you really have to, which is why we are seeing people like Anderson Silva not performing at their best.

There are organizations like Dream, Strikeforce and so on that are signing good fighters with the option to co-promote.

The UFC is not the future it is becoming obsolete.

after all Fedor still the most dominated .. nobody achieved the result who did it (32-1)

He is a human been, a warrior ..a man like every man who respect his job and do it in completly way .. after his first loose, he knew, and he told what was the fault..

soo even when he loose he do his job complitly .. he is a great man for the sports and the humanity ..
